If you run or plan to open a lounge, refreshment bar, games or viewing centre, or another entertainment business in Kano State, a CAC registration gives it a legal name and a place on the public register. We at Onelove Business Ventures are an accredited agent, and we handle the process for you — search, filing, certificate — from anywhere in Kano. Please read the note on alcohol further down before you decide on your business concept, because Kano’s rules on that are different from most of Nigeria. There’s no extra step hiding behind the registration itself: message us your business name, and we take it from there.

Two Kano Rules Every Lounge and Entertainment Owner Should Know First
Alcohol. Kano is a Sharia state. The Kano State Hisbah Board has stated publicly that the state’s Penal Code of 2004 prohibits the sale and distribution of alcohol and that the prohibition applies to everyone in the state, not only Muslims. The Hisbah has also said that in predominantly Christian areas such as Sabon Gari it has historically held back from raiding beer sellers, but that is an enforcement posture, not a licence, and it has not always held. CAC registration only registers your business name. It does not authorise the sale of alcohol anywhere in Kano, and no CAC document can. We therefore write this page for lounges and entertainment ventures that operate within the state’s rules: refreshment and juice bars, cafés and shisha-free chill spots, games and viewing centres, and event and entertainment services. If your concept depends on selling alcohol, speak to a Kano-based lawyer before you spend money on it.
Entertainment licensing. Public entertainment venues in Kano fall under the Kano State Censorship Board, which regulates cinemas, theatres, viewing centres, event centres and cultural performances. A 2025 amendment to the Board’s law placed the registration of event centres directly under its control and requires venues and organisers to comply with the state’s religious and cultural standards. In May 2025 the Board suspended event centres pending licence renewal and closed eight “gala” entertainment centres it said were running late-night shows or operating without approval, and in February 2026 it revoked the licence of an open theatre in Sharada over security concerns. A CAC certificate is the registered-business paperwork; the Board’s licence is a separate approval you will still need for many entertainment formats.
Lounge and Entertainment Businesses We Register Most in Kano
- Refreshment and juice lounges — registered businesses serving non-alcoholic drinks, smoothies, snacks and light meals in a sit-down setting.
- Cafés and chill spots — registered businesses offering coffee, shakes and a place to meet.
- Games and viewing centres — registered businesses running football viewing, PlayStation and console gaming, or similar recreation.
- Cinema and theatre operators — registered businesses screening films or hosting live shows, subject to Censorship Board approval.
- Event and gala centre operators — registered businesses hiring out halls for weddings, receptions and functions.
- Entertainment service providers — registered businesses offering sound, lighting, MC and event entertainment.
Separate From This Registration
- Alcohol: nothing in a CAC registration permits the sale of alcohol in Kano, and this service does not cover any licence for it
- Kano State Censorship Board registration and licence renewal for cinemas, theatres, viewing centres, event centres and public performances
- Music and public-performance licensing for the songs you play or stage (Nigerian Copyright Commission and the relevant collective societies)
- Fire safety, building and premises approvals, and local health and hygiene inspections for your venue
- Physical/printed copies of your certificate (delivered as soft copy; you print locally whenever convenient)
- Business bank account opening, done with your chosen bank once your certificate is in hand
- Annual returns filing in future years — a small, separate step we can also help with when the time comes

It suits most single-venue owners who want a properly registered business without structure they don’t yet need. Business Name or Limited Liability Company for a Lounge?
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Single-venue lounges, cafés and gaming centres starting out | Event centres, multi-venue operators, or businesses with partners or investors |
Venues that host crowds, hire staff and sign leases carry more exposure than a market stall does, so it is worth thinking about the Limited Liability Company early if you are building something large. For a first venue with one or two owners, a Business Name is the usual starting point, and you can convert later.

Building a Venue People Return To
A lounge succeeds or fails on things a certificate can’t supply: whether the seating fills at closing time on match days, whether the menu suits the crowd that actually turns up, and whether the sound and lighting make people stay another hour. Those are the parts of the business only you can get right, and they take longer to learn than any registration.
Registration is the piece that lets the venue be treated as a business by landlords, suppliers, banks and the authorities that regulate entertainment in Kano. Having it settled before you sign a lease or apply for a Censorship Board licence means those conversations start from a registered name rather than a promise.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a lounge or entertainment business in Kano State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive, the same across all 44 LGAs. A Limited Liability Company registration is also available for ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What do I actually get for the ₦35,500? Your name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, the government processing fee, your Certificate of Registration, a Tax Identification Number, and a CAC Status Report confirming you’re active on the public register.
Can I register a bar that sells alcohol in Kano? CAC will register a business name, but registration does not authorise the sale of alcohol, and Kano’s Penal Code prohibits it according to the state’s Hisbah Board. We register lounge and entertainment businesses that operate within Kano’s rules. If alcohol is central to your plan, take advice from a Kano-based lawyer first.
Should I register as a Business Name or a Limited Liability Company, and can I switch later? A Business Name suits most single-venue lounges and gaming centres starting out. Event centres, multi-venue operators and businesses with partners or investors usually fit the Limited Liability Company better. You can start with a Business Name and convert later, and we can assist with that when the time comes.
Do I need a Censorship Board licence as well? Often, yes. Cinemas, theatres, viewing centres, event centres and public performances fall under the Kano State Censorship Board, and its licence is separate from CAC registration. Check with the Board what applies to your format.
Can I open a bank account and use the certificate with suppliers and landlords? Yes — a CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for when opening a business account, and many suppliers and property owners ask for proof of registration before dealing with a business.
Do I need to be in Kano city, and what if my name isn’t available? No. We register businesses in all of Kano’s LGAs remotely over WhatsApp, and your certificate arrives as a soft copy you can print locally. If your first name is taken, send a backup and we’ll check it right away.
Ready when you are — send your business name on WhatsApp → and we’ll take it from there.
