Whether you run a lounge in Minna, a football viewing centre in Bida, a games-and-music spot in Kontagora or an events venue anywhere else in Niger State, registering under a business name is where the paperwork begins. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We run the name search, submit the filing and deliver the certificate, whichever part of the state your venue is in. Send your business name on WhatsApp and consider it handled — that’s genuinely the extent of what’s asked of you.
Why a Bar Business in Niger State Needs to Know About the Liquor Licensing Board
Niger State is one of the northern states that restrict the sale of alcohol, and it regulates the trade through its own Liquor Licensing Board. The board’s establishing law gives it the mandate to control liquor vendors across the state. In December 2023 the board announced a ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol in nine local government areas, Suleja among them, to take effect from 1 January 2024. It also said some beer joints in Minna would be told to relocate to within an eight-kilometre radius of the post office. Since then the board has been reported sealing premises that operate without a licence or sit in restricted zones, including in Mokwa, Lavun and Edati and in Bida.
For a new bar or lounge, this means location and licensing are decisions you make early, and they are separate from CAC. Your CAC registration gives the business a legal name and identity. It does not give you a liquor licence, and it does not make a restricted area permissible. Check directly with the board which areas and premises are open to licensing before you sign a lease or buy stock. Lounges, viewing centres, game spots and event venues that do not sell alcohol face a lighter set of approvals, though the premises-related ones below still apply.

Business Name vs. Limited Liability Company
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Owner-run bars, lounges, viewing centres, game spots and small venues | Larger venues, multi-outlet operators and ventures with partners or investors |
A Business Name usually suits a single venue run by its owner: it gives your supplier invoices, event bookings and bank account a proper registered name. A Limited Liability Company is worth considering once you have several outlets, shared ownership or an investor, because the business then stands apart from your personal assets. A common route is to begin with a Business Name and upgrade later.
Documents to Have Ready
- Two business names you like, ranked in order of preference
- A valid ID: National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s licence
- One passport photograph
- Your business address in Niger State, with the LGA
- A phone number and an email address
- A simple description of the business, such as “bar, lounge and entertainment services” or “event centre and viewing centre”
- For a Limited Liability Company only: the names, IDs and details of directors and shareholders

- Name reservation once it is confirmed as available.

Six steps, and only two of them involve you — everything else runs on our end.
What Falls Outside This Registration
A bar or entertainment venue answers to several authorities that have no connection to CAC. These are arranged separately:
- A liquor licence from the Niger State Liquor Licensing Board, if you will sell alcohol. The board controls liquor vendors in the state, and location rules apply, so confirm with it before committing to premises.
- Registration status of the drinks you stock. NAFDAC regulates packaged food and drink products in Nigeria, so buy from suppliers whose products are properly registered.
- Music and copyright licensing if you play recorded music or host live performances for customers. Public performance generally needs permission through the approved copyright collecting societies.
- Film and video approvals if you screen films or show content commercially, which fall under the National Film and Video Censors Board.
- Local government and premises approvals, including shop or venue permits, and any rules on noise and opening hours that apply in your area.
- Building, occupancy and fire-safety requirements for a venue that holds crowds, along with arrangements for exits, wiring and generator safety.
- Food and hygiene requirements if you also serve meals or snacks.
- Tax obligations that apply to the business, including VAT where relevant.
- Printed copies of your certificate, which you can produce locally from the soft copy.
- Opening a business bank account, done with your chosen bank once the certificate is in hand.
- Annual returns to CAC in later years, a small, separate step we can also manage.

A Venue Runs on Its Evenings
Your busiest hours begin when other businesses are closing. There are crates to restock before the evening crowd arrives, a sound system to test, a generator to fuel before the power drops, and a match, a birthday or a wedding reception that must start on time. Between the door, the till and the stockroom, there is little room for CAC’s portal. That is the one task you can hand over entirely. Once it’s done, the business operates under a recognised name that appears on supplier receipts, event bookings and bank paperwork, and you can concentrate on the night ahead.
A Good Match If…
Different business owners want different things from an agent — this is who we serve best:
- You’d rather not work through CAC’s portal between closing up late, restocking before the evening rush and arranging the next match-day or event night — you want the paperwork done while the venue keeps running.
- You’re heading from a single bar or viewing centre toward a lounge with an events space, private functions or a second outlet — and you want a registered name to grow under.
- You prefer being told what you actually need — if the Business Name does the job today, we’ll leave the company route for when it’s worth it.
- You’d rather not chase anyone — one message starts it, and the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.
If this describes you, we’d be glad to take the paperwork off your hands.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a bar or entertainment business in Niger State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same wherever in the state your venue is. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What do I get for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC application, the government filing fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
Is a Business Name enough for a bar or lounge? For most owner-run venues, yes. It gives you a legal name for invoices, bookings and your bank account. Larger operators or ventures with partners may prefer a Limited Liability Company.
Does CAC registration give me a liquor licence? No. Alcohol sales in Niger State are controlled by the Niger State Liquor Licensing Board, which handles licensing separately. CAC registration gives your business a registered name and identity.
Can I sell alcohol anywhere in Niger State? Not necessarily. The state has announced prohibited areas and has sealed unlicensed premises. Check with the Liquor Licensing Board which locations can be licensed before you rent a property.
Can a lounge, viewing centre or game spot that doesn’t sell alcohol register too? Yes. These businesses register the same way, and they are generally free of the liquor licensing step. Premises, safety and music or film permissions still apply.
Can I register a bar that sits inside a hotel or restaurant? Yes, if it is run as a separate business. Describe it as a bar or lounge, and the hotel or restaurant side can be described as a separate part of the business if you run both.
Can one business name cover a bar and an event hall, or more than one outlet? One registration covers your business as a whole, and you can describe it broadly. Licences and permits usually attach to each premises, so confirm what is needed for every location.
Do I need a licence to play music in my venue? Playing recorded or live music publicly generally requires permission from the approved copyright collecting societies. That is handled separately from CAC.
Do you register businesses outside Minna and Suleja? Yes. We register venues across all of Niger State, from Bida and Kontagora to Mokwa and Borgu, at the same price and turnaround.
I haven’t chosen my premises yet. Can I still register? You need a business address in Niger State and its LGA for the application. If you are still choosing a location, check the licensing and location rules first, then send us the address you plan to use.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other details.
Will event organisers or corporate clients ask for proof of registration? Some organisations ask for it before booking a venue or placing a recurring order, so the certificate is a useful document to have. It does not guarantee any booking.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number comes with the ₦35,500.
Do I need to file anything with CAC in later years? Yes, registered businesses file annual returns. It is a small, separate step and we can help when it is due.
What if my business name isn’t available? Send a backup name and we’ll check it at once. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many venues start with a Business Name and convert as they grow or bring in partners. We can assist with the conversion.
When does it make sense to start with a Limited Liability Company? If you are planning several outlets, sharing ownership with partners, or an investor requires a company structure, consider the company route from the start.
How long does it take, and how do I receive the certificate? Registration usually takes 5–7 working days. We send your certificate, TIN and Status Report as soft copies on WhatsApp, and you can print them locally when you need them.
