From Shonga to Every Smallholding
Few places in Nigeria changed the conversation about commercial farming the way Edu LGA did. In 2005, thirteen commercial farmers who had been displaced from Zimbabwe relocated to Shonga, in Edu, under a partnership with the Kwara State government and its banks. Each was given around 1,000 hectares, and the layout deliberately left 200-hectare gaps between the big farms so neighbouring local farmers could watch the methods at work and copy what suited them. How the scheme has fared since has been debated, and reports describe a smaller, more struggling operation today. But the idea behind that layout holds up for any farm in Kwara: commercial buyers and big neighbours are part of your market, and a registered business is easier for them to deal with.
CAC registration doesn’t give you land, credit or a guaranteed buyer. What it gives you is a name, a TIN and a status report that processors, aggregators, input suppliers and lenders can verify, which is often what turns a conversation into a supply arrangement.
Does This Sound Like You?
We work well with some farmers more than others, and it’s fair to say who:
- You’d rather be on the land or at the pond than waiting in a queue for forms.
- You plan beyond one harvest — more hectares, a processing step, or supplying buyers directly.
- You want a straight answer on whether a Business Name is enough, even if it means spending less.
- You like fixed costs, with no surprise charges after payment.
If so, you’ll probably find us easy to work with.

Business Name or Limited Liability Company?
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Individual farmers, fishers and produce traders starting out | Large farms, processors and agribusinesses with investors or partners |
For most individual farmers, fish farmers and produce traders in Kwara, a Business Name is enough to sell under a recognised name and deal with buyers, suppliers and banks. If you scale into large acreage, processing, or take on investors or co-owners, a Limited Liability Company usually fits better because it separates your personal assets from the company’s. Starting with a Business Name and converting later is common.

What You’ll Need
Have these ready and we can begin whenever you like:
- Two business names you like, ranked by preference
- A valid ID — National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s license
- A passport photograph
- Your farm or business address in Kwara State, including the LGA
- A phone number and an email address
- A short description of what the business does — for example, “crop farming and produce sales” or “fish farming and processing”
- If you choose a Limited Liability Company: the names, IDs and details of all directors and shareholders
Send them on WhatsApp in any order. If something is missing, we’ll tell you straight away.
How the Process Runs
- Name check — we search CAC’s public portal to see if your first-choice name is free.
- Reservation — once it clears, we hold the name for you.
- Application — we complete the CAC Business Name form with your details and Kwara address.
- ID and photo — you send both; a clear phone picture is enough.
- Payment — you make one ₦35,500 payment covering every cost listed above.
- Delivery — your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report reach you on WhatsApp, usually within 5–7 working days.
That’s genuinely the whole process from your side: one message, one payment, one certificate.

You Already Read the Season — Let the Paperwork Follow
You check the sky before you check your phone. You know which plot floods first, when the fish are ready to harvest, and which buyer pays before the produce leaves the farm gate. That kind of knowledge takes years on the land, not an afternoon at a desk. The CAC side is the quick part, and once it’s done your farm has a registered name to put on invoices, supply agreements and bank forms, so it’s treated as seriously as the work behind it.
Questions Kwara Farmers, Fishers and Produce Traders Ask Us
How much does CAC registration cost for a farming business in Kwara State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same in all 16 LGAs. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What does the ₦35,500 include? Name search and reservation, completion and submission of your CAC application, the government filing fee, your soft-copy Certificate of Registration, a Tax Identification Number, and a CAC Status Report confirming your business is active on the public register.
Is a Business Name enough to run a farm? For most individual farmers, fish farmers and produce traders, yes. It gives your business a legally recognised name to trade under.
Should I register a Business Name or a Limited Liability Company? A Business Name suits individual and small-scale operators. A Limited Liability Company is worth considering for large acreage, agro-processing, or businesses with investors or partners.
Can I convert to a Limited Liability Company later, and when should I? Yes. Many farmers start with a Business Name and upgrade once they expand, add processing or bring in investors. We can help with the conversion when the time comes.
Can farming, fishing and produce trading go under one name? Yes. A single registration covers your business as a whole, so describe your nature of business broadly, such as “farming, fish production and agricultural produce trading”.
I farm on a small plot — can I still register? Yes. Small and large farms register the same way. You need a business address in Kwara State with its LGA, which can be your farm, your home base or the place where you store and sell produce.
Does the certificate give me ownership of my farmland? No. CAC registers your business name, not your land. Land title, leases and customary-land arrangements are handled separately.
Do I need NAFDAC registration if I process or package my produce? Yes, packaged and processed foods and oils fall under NAFDAC, and that is separate from CAC registration.
Do I need to register a cooperative society for a group farm? That is a separate registration from CAC business name registration. If you’re farming as a group, ask about the cooperative route as well.
Will registration help me reach buyers, input suppliers or lenders? Processors, aggregators, input suppliers and lenders often ask for proof of registration before supplying, buying or lending. A CAC certificate is usually the first document requested, though it does not guarantee approval on its own.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. It’s one of the main documents banks ask for when opening a business account, alongside your ID and other details.
What if my preferred name is already taken? Send two names at the start. We check both, and a backup keeps things moving without delay.
The harvest won’t wait, and neither does the paperwork — send your business name on WhatsApp → and let us register it.
