A tailor in Niger State is rarely just sewing. You’re measuring, advising on fabric, fitting, finishing and keeping a promise about a date that someone else has fixed for a wedding, a naming ceremony or Sallah. Putting your workshop or label under a registered name makes the business easier to trust, book and pay. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We do the name search, the filing and the certificate for fashion designers and tailors anywhere in Niger State. There’s no extra step hiding behind this: message us your business name, and we take it from there.

Bida’s Embroidered Robes and the Tradition You’re Working In
Niger State has one of Nigeria’s best-documented clothing traditions. Bida, the Nupe capital, was once the seat of an emirate known across West Africa for its craft work, including embroidery, glass beads and brass casting, as well as weaving by both men and women. A hand-woven indigo robe with heavy white embroidery on the chest, made for a Nupe king around 1850, is held today by the National Museums Scotland. Indigo cloth with fine Bida embroidery was traditionally worn by men of high standing.
Today’s tailors and designers in the state work in a different market, with ready-made fabrics, Ankara prints, bridal orders and school and office uniforms alongside traditional wear. The pride in good cutting and finishing is the same, though. A registered business name lets you put that craftsmanship under your own label, issue receipts and quotations, and be listed as a named business when a client, school or organisation wants to place a large order. It doesn’t guarantee orders, and it doesn’t protect your designs or brand, as explained below, but it’s the foundation you’ll need for each of those next steps.
Fashion and Tailoring Businesses We Register in Niger State
- Men’s traditional wear tailors: kaftans, babanriga, agbada and caps cut to measure.
- Women’s wear and gown makers: Ankara outfits, lace, wrappers and made-to-order dresses.
- Aso-ebi and event outfit specialists: matching fabrics for weddings, naming ceremonies and festive seasons.
- School, church and corporate uniform makers: bulk sewing for institutions and organisations.
- Embroidery and cap-making workshops: hand and machine embroidery on caps, robes and accessories.
- Fashion labels and ready-to-wear designers: collections sold in shops, online or through social media.
- Alteration and repair services: resizing, mending and finishing for walk-in customers.
- Tailoring training workshops: owners who teach apprentices and run a working studio.
What Falls Outside This Registration
A CAC certificate gives your business a legal name. The following belong to other bodies or other steps, and aren’t part of our service:
- Trademark registration for your brand name, logo or label, which is handled at the Trademarks Registry and is separate from a CAC business name
- Copyright protection for original designs, patterns and illustrations, where the Nigerian Copyright Commission is the relevant body
- Customs and import paperwork, if you bring in fabric, lace, trimmings or machines from abroad
- Shop, market or workshop permits from your local government area
- Any extra approvals needed if you run a formal training school rather than a working studio with apprentices
- Power and equipment for your sewing and embroidery machines
- State and federal tax obligations that apply to your kind of trade
- Opening a business bank account with your chosen bank once the certificate arrives
- Annual returns in later years, which is a small separate step we can help with
- A printed certificate, since it comes as a soft copy and can be printed at any local business centre
What Your ₦35,500 Covers
You pay ₦35,500 once for a fashion or tailoring business anywhere in Niger State. CAC’s filing fee and our service fee are both included, and there are no extra charges later. If you’d prefer to begin as a company, a Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.
- A search to confirm that your business name is available
- Reservation of the name once it’s cleared
- Preparation and submission of your CAC Business Name application
- The CAC government filing and processing fee
- Your Certificate of Registration (soft copy)
- A Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- A CAC Status Report showing your business is active on the public register
Business Name vs. Limited Liability Company
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Solo tailors, small workshops and designers building their first label | Larger studios, uniform contractors, and brands with partners or investors |
A Business Name suits most tailors and designers who run their own workshop. It gives you a legal name for receipts, quotations and a bank account. A Limited Liability Company is better suited to a business with several owners, an investor, or large institutional contracts, since the company then stands apart from your personal assets. It’s quite common to start with a Business Name and convert later.
Registering Fashion and Tailoring Businesses Across Niger State
Wherever your workshop or boutique is, the price, documents and turnaround are the same. Here’s where we register them, listed in alphabetical order:
- Agaie, Agwara, Auna, Babana, Badeggi, Baro, Bida and Bokani: tailors and designers in the first run of Niger State’s towns, including the Nupe heartland
- Borgu, Bosso, Chanchaga, Duku, Edati, Gbako, Gurara and Ibeto: workshops, boutiques and fabric-shop tailors from the far north-west to the capital area
- Katcha, Konkwesso, Kontagora, Kusheriki, Kuta, Lapai, Lavun and Magama: market-town tailors, uniform makers and embroiderers
- Mariga, Mashegu, Minna, Mokwa, Munya, New Shagunnu, Paikoro and Rafi: designers in the state capital and the corridor towns around it
- Rijau, Shiroro, Suleja, Tafa, Tegina, Ukata, Wawa, Wushishi and Zungeru: studios and tailors in the Abuja-border towns and the smaller centres across the state
Many of these places are a long way from the capital. If you’re based anywhere in Niger State, you’re covered, and the whole process is done on your phone.
Documents to Have Ready
- Two proposed business names, ranked by preference

- A passport photograph
- Your business address in Niger State, including the LGA
- A phone number and an email address
- Nature of business, in simple words, such as “fashion design and tailoring” or “tailoring, embroidery and fabric sales”
- If you choose a Limited Liability Company: names, ID and details of the directors and shareholders
The Registration Timeline
- Name check: we search CAC’s public portal to see whether your first choice is free.
- Reservation: we hold the name once it clears.

The Deadline Is Fixed, but the Fabric Isn’t Cut Yet
The outfit has to be ready before the ceremony, and the customer who ordered it has already told everyone. Then there’s a measuring tape in one hand, a second fitting on the way, thread running low, and a machine waiting on the light to come back. In festive seasons the orders pile up faster than any one person can sew. Nobody in your trade has a quiet afternoon to spare for a government portal, so don’t spend one on it. Once the business name is registered, it can go on your labels, receipts, social media pages and bank forms, so clients see a named business behind the stitching.
A Good Match If…
Before you decide, here’s an honest look at who gets the most from our service:
- You’re cutting, fitting and finishing around deadlines, with customers dropping in for measurements while a machine runs in the background. Working through CAC’s portal in the middle of that isn’t realistic.
- You’re thinking about growing from custom orders into a ready-to-wear line, school and corporate uniform contracts, or a second workshop in Minna, Bida or Suleja. You’d like a registered name to grow under.
- You prefer being told what you actually need — if the Business Name does the job today, we’ll leave the company route for when it’s worth it.
- You’d rather not chase anyone — one message starts it, and the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.
If that sounds like you, send your business name and we’ll get started.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a tailoring or fashion design business in Niger State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, no matter where in the state you work. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.
What does the ₦35,500 cover? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC application, the government filing fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), your TIN and a CAC Status Report.
I sew from home or from a small shop. Can I register? Yes. A home workshop, a one-machine shop and a boutique are all registered the same way. You need an address in Niger State and its LGA.
Can I register a fashion label as well as my tailoring business? Yes. Register the name you trade under, and describe the nature of business as, for example, “fashion design and tailoring”. Your label can operate under that name.
Does a CAC business name give me trademark rights over my label or logo? No. Trademark registration is a separate process at the Trademarks Registry. A CAC registration gives you the legal business name.
Does it protect my designs from being copied? CAC registration isn’t design protection. Copyright for original work is handled separately by the Nigerian Copyright Commission.
Is a Business Name enough for a tailoring business? For most owner-run workshops and early-stage labels, yes. A Limited Liability Company is worth considering if you have partners, investors or large contracts.
Can I cover tailoring and fabric sales under one registration? Yes. Describe the business broadly, such as “tailoring, embroidery and fabric sales”, so it matches everything you do.
I train apprentices in my workshop. Can I still register? Yes. A working studio that takes apprentices registers like any other tailoring business. A formal training school may have extra requirements, so check those separately.
Will a certificate help me win uniform or bulk orders? Schools, churches and organisations often ask for proof of registration before placing larger orders, so the certificate is a useful document to have. It doesn’t guarantee any order.
Do you register businesses outside Minna and Bida? Yes. We cover every part of Niger State, from Borgu and Kontagora to Suleja and Mokwa, at the same price and turnaround.
I import fabric and lace. Does the registration cover that? The registration gives you the business name. Customs and import paperwork are separate from CAC and aren’t included.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, together with your ID and other details.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number comes with the ₦35,500.
Do I need to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses file annual returns. It’s a small, separate step, and we can help when it’s due.
What if my first-choice business name is taken? Send a second or third name and we’ll check them straight away. Having backups ready keeps things moving.
Can I move from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many designers start with a Business Name and convert once the label or workshop grows. We can help with the conversion.
When does it make sense to start with a Limited Liability Company? If you’re building a larger studio, sharing ownership, or an investor wants a company structure, the company route is worth considering from day one.
I don’t have a workshop address yet. Can I still register? You need a business address in Niger State, including the LGA, for the application. If you’re still sorting out premises, send the address you plan to use.
I sell mainly through Instagram and WhatsApp. Can I still register? Yes. Selling online doesn’t change anything. You’ll still need an address in Niger State for the application, and the certificate will give you a registered name to use on your pages and invoices.
