Between unreliable grid supply, rising diesel costs and factories, shops and homes all looking for backup power, solar and inverter work has become a real trade in Ogun State, from rooftop installers in Abeokuta to equipment dealers serving the Ota industrial belt. A registered business name is the first paper that lets that trade operate under its own identity. Onelove Business Ventures, an accredited CAC agent, handles the name search, the filing and the certificate for power and solar businesses in every part of Ogun State. There’s no extra step hiding behind this: message us your business name, and we take it from there.

Ogun Now Has Its Own Electricity Regulator
Power in Ogun State is no longer regulated only from Abuja. Under Nigeria’s Electricity Act 2023, states can set up and regulate their own electricity markets, and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) issued an order in December 2024 transferring oversight of Ogun’s intrastate electricity market to the Ogun State Electricity Regulatory Commission. The same order told Eko, Ikeja Electric and Ibadan distribution companies to set up subsidiaries to handle intrastate supply and distribution in the state, and those subsidiaries are to obtain their licences from the state regulator. NERC keeps its central role over inter-state and international matters.
For anyone in solar and power, the practical effect is that there is now a state-level regulator for the electricity sector alongside the federal one, and states can license activities such as mini-grids and power plants that operate within their borders. Which rules apply to you depends on what you actually do. Installing systems for customers and selling equipment is a different activity from generating and supplying power to others, so check with the regulator for your specific case. Whatever the answer, you will generally be dealing with these bodies as a registered business, and a registered name is the first thing to have in place.

Separate From This Registration
A CAC certificate gives your business a legal name. The following are handled outside it:
- A printed copy of your certificate (we send a soft copy, and any print shop can produce the hard copy)
- Licences or permits from the Ogun State Electricity Regulatory Commission, where your activity calls for them; this is most likely if you move from installing systems to generating or supplying power to others
- Grid-connection or interconnection arrangements with the electricity distribution company serving your area, if your systems tie into the grid
- Product-standards, customs and other import requirements, if you bring in panels, batteries or inverters from abroad
- Professional or engineering registration for work that requires it; confirm with the relevant professional body
- Dealer or installer accreditation from equipment brands and distributors, where a brand requires it
- Safe storage, handling and disposal arrangements for batteries and old equipment
- Registration on corporate, estate or government supplier lists, if you want to bid for those contracts
- State and federal tax obligations that apply to your business
- A business bank account, opened with your chosen bank once your certificate is in hand
- Annual returns with CAC in later years, a small separate step we can help with when it falls due
The Full Breakdown of Your β¦35,500
Everything below is covered by one payment of β¦35,500, with CAC’s fee and ours already combined and no charges added afterwards. If you would rather begin as a company, a Limited Liability Company is β¦65,500, all-inclusive.
- Name availability search on CAC’s register
- Reservation of your chosen name

Business Name or Company: Choosing for a Solar Business
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | β¦35,500 | β¦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Solo installers, solar equipment shops and small electrical-contracting teams | Larger installation firms, partner-owned businesses and companies pursuing estate, factory or institutional projects |
If you install systems yourself, run a shop, or work with a small crew, a Business Name is usually enough to begin: it gives you a registered name for quotations, invoices and a bank account. Solar projects can be large and long-lived, though, so a company structure becomes attractive when the jobs get bigger, partners come in, or you want the business to stand apart from your personal assets. Starting small and upgrading later is a common path.

The Sun Sets Your Schedule, Not the Paperwork
Solar work follows daylight. There are early starts to get on the roof before the heat builds, panels to align, a battery bank to wire, an inverter to commission, and a customer who wants to know why the lights haven’t come on yet. Suppliers need paying, stock needs checking, and the rainy season rearranges your week. That leaves very little space for studying a government portal. Registration is a task you can hand over entirely. Once it is finished, your business has a registered name to put on quotations, receipts and bank paperwork, and you can get back to the systems that keep your customers’ lights on.
A Good Match If…
Before you decide, here’s an honest look at who gets the most from our service:
- You’d rather not open CAC’s portal between an early roof job, a battery bank waiting to be wired and a customer asking when the inverter will be commissioned β the sun sets your schedule, not the paperwork.
- You’re growing from household inverter and panel jobs towards estate systems, factory backup power, solar street lights or maintenance contracts around Abeokuta, Ota or Sagamu β and you want a registered name to grow under.
- You want honest advice, not an upsell β if a Business Name covers your stage, that’s what we’ll recommend.
- You want things kept simple β your details, one payment, your certificate.
If that sounds like you, send your business name and we’ll get started.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a solar or power business in Ogun State? β¦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same in every Ogun State LGA. A Limited Liability Company is β¦65,500 all-inclusive.
What do I get for the β¦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, CAC’s government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
Is a Business Name enough for a solar installation or equipment business? For most solo installers, shop owners and small teams, yes. It gives you the registered name to quote, invoice and bank under. Other approvals tied to your activity are separate from CAC.
Do I need a licence from the Ogun State electricity regulator? It depends on what you do. Ogun now has its own regulator for the state’s electricity market, and licensing is most likely to matter if you generate or supply power to others. Installing systems or selling equipment may be treated differently, so ask the regulator about your specific activity.
Does CAC registration allow me to sell electricity or run a mini-grid? No. CAC registration gives your business a legal name only. Selling power or operating a mini-grid is regulated separately, so confirm the requirements before you begin.
Will I need engineering or professional registration? Some electrical and engineering work can involve professional registration. That is handled outside CAC, so check with the relevant professional body for the services you offer.
Can I register a business that both installs systems and sells equipment? Yes. Installing and selling can be described together in the nature of business, and you can add detail later if your focus shifts.
Can I register solar, inverters, generators and wiring under one name? Yes. Describe the business broadly, such as “solar, inverter and electrical installation and supply”. Individual activities may carry their own requirements.
I install solar water pumps for farms. Can I register? Yes. Water-pump and irrigation systems are registered the same way as other solar work; just describe them in the nature of business.
Can I register without a shop? Yes. The application needs a business address in Ogun State and its LGA, so send the address you operate from or plan to use. If you aren’t sure whether it will work, ask us on WhatsApp before paying.
Does importing panels or batteries need anything beyond the certificate? Possibly. Imported solar equipment can involve product-standards, customs and other requirements handled outside CAC. Check the current rules for what you bring in.
Do you register businesses outside Abeokuta, Ota and Sagamu? Yes. We cover all of Ogun State, from Idiroko and Imeko Afon to Ijebu Ode and Ogun Waterside, at the same price and turnaround.
Will a CAC certificate help me win estate, factory or institutional projects? Clients often ask for proof of registration before awarding larger projects or recurring maintenance work, so the certificate is useful to hold. It does not guarantee any contract.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. The certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other details.
Is the TIN included? Yes, a Tax Identification Number is part of the β¦35,500.
Do I need to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses file annual returns. It’s a small, separate step and we can help with it when the time comes.
What if my preferred name is taken? Send a backup and we’ll check it right away. Having two or three options ready saves time.
Can I switch from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many solar businesses start with a Business Name and convert when projects grow or partners come on board. We can help with the conversion.
When should a solar business start as a Limited Liability Company? If you’re launching a larger installation firm, sharing ownership with partners, or targeting projects where a company structure is expected, the company route is worth considering from day one.
I work in several towns. Do I need one registration per location? One registration covers your business as a whole, and you can describe it broadly. Approvals tied to particular premises or services may be separate, so confirm what applies to each place you operate.
