Homes, shops, schools, clinics, farms and workshops across Oyo State are looking for power they can depend on, and solar and electrical businesses are where many of them turn. If you sell, install or maintain solar systems, inverters, batteries, generators or electrical equipment, a registered business name is usually what customers, suppliers and banks ask for before they deal with you. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We search the name, file the application and deliver your certificate for power and solar businesses anywhere in Oyo State, for ₦35,500 all-inclusive. Send your business name on WhatsApp and consider it handled — that’s genuinely the extent of what’s asked of you.
Oyo State Now Has Its Own Electricity Regulator
Power is no longer handled only at federal level. After the 2023 Electricity Act, states were allowed to license private investors to operate mini-grids and power plants within their borders, though the Act prohibits interstate and transnational electricity distribution. Oyo State responded quickly. On 9 February 2024, Governor Seyi Makinde signed the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission Bill 2024 into law, which he said would enable the state to generate, transmit and distribute electricity within its borders. It created the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission, one of the first state-level electricity regulators in the country.
For a solar or power business, this matters because the rules that apply to you may now come partly from the state. Licence categories in the national framework cover generation (excluding captive generation), transmission, distribution, supply, trading and system operation. Whether any of them applies to you depends on what you do. Selling and installing panels for customers’ own use is a different activity from running a mini-grid that sells electricity to others. Ask the commission which permits, if any, apply to your type of work.

✅ What You Get: Official CAC Certificate + Certified Status Report

A CAC registration gives your business the legal name that contracts, quotations and licence applications are made in. It is not an electricity licence and does not approve any installation.

Business Name vs. Limited Liability Company
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| Total cost, all-inclusive | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal assets kept separate | No | Yes, the company is its own legal entity |
| Documents you receive | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Usually suits | Solo installers, small solar teams and owner-run inverter or electrical shops | Firms with partners or investors, large stockholders and developers of bigger projects |
A Business Name is normally enough if you sell and install systems for homes, shops and small offices, or run an electrical or generator business yourself. It gives you a recognised name for quotations, warranties, supplier accounts and a bank account. A company structure becomes more sensible when you take on partners, bring in investors, hold large stock imported on credit, or begin pursuing commercial, institutional or community-scale projects. Many power and solar businesses begin with a Business Name and convert as they grow.

- Printed copies of your certificate, which we send as a soft copy for you to print locally

- Professional registration for engineers on your team, where your work calls for it
- Environmental rules for handling and disposing of used batteries and electrical waste, under the Oyo State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources
- Insurance for stock, tools and work at height or on live installations
- Planning and building approvals for a warehouse, workshop or showroom

Roofs, Inverters and Delivery Trucks
The work is physical and rarely on schedule. You are on a customer’s roof with a panel half fixed, working out a load calculation at a kitchen table, or waiting for a delivery of inverters that is held up on the road from Lagos. Then the call comes from someone whose batteries seem to drain overnight, or whose generator will not start. Harmattan dust, rainy-season delays and the ordering of stock on credit keep every week full. Registering the business is a task you can hand over completely. When a customer, supplier or bank asks for proof of registration, your certificate is already on your phone.
A Good Match If…
We’re not the right fit for everyone, and we’d rather say so — here’s who usually benefits most from working with us:
- You’re on a client’s roof with a panel half fixed, or waiting on a delivery of inverters, and a government portal has no place in that day.
- You’re growing from home inverter systems towards shops, schools, clinics and farms, or towards larger commercial and solar-pump projects, and you want a registered name to build on.
- You value a straight answer over a sales pitch — if a Business Name is enough for where you are, we’ll tell you that, not upsell you into the LLC.
- You want things kept simple — your details, one payment, your certificate.
If this describes you, we’d be glad to take the paperwork off your hands.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a solar or power business in Oyo State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, wherever in Oyo State you operate. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.
What do I get for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the filing of your application, CAC’s government fee, a soft-copy Certificate of Registration, a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
How long does it take? Usually 5–7 working days once your details and payment are in.
Is a Business Name enough for a solar installer? For most solo installers, small teams and owner-run equipment shops, yes. Firms with partners, investors or larger projects may prefer a Limited Liability Company.
Does CAC registration give me a licence to generate or sell electricity? No. It registers your business name. Licences for generating, distributing or supplying electricity come from the electricity regulator and are separate.
What did Oyo State’s 2024 electricity law change? It created the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission and enables the state to generate, transmit and distribute electricity within its borders. Confirm with the commission how its rules apply to your type of business.
I install systems for customers’ own use. Do I need an electricity licence? That is a question for the regulator, as licensing depends on what you do, and installing for a customer’s own use is different from selling electricity to others. CAC registration neither adds to nor replaces any permit.
I only sell panels, inverters and batteries and don’t install. Can I register? Yes. Describe the business as solar and power equipment supply, and the same Business Name registration applies.
Can solar, generators and electrical contracting go under one name? Yes. Describe your business broadly, such as “power systems supply, installation and electrical works”. Some activities may have their own requirements.
I import panels and inverters. Does that change anything? The CAC registration is the same. Imports bring Customs, SON and other requirements, which are handled separately.
Do I need to be an engineer to register? No. CAC registers the business name. Professional registration for engineers and technicians, where your work calls for it, is a separate matter.
I don’t have a shop or office. What address do I use? You need a business address in Oyo State, with the LGA. Use your home or workshop address, or the base you operate from.
Do you register businesses outside Ibadan? Yes. We register power and solar businesses across Oyo State, from Oyo town, Ogbomoso and Saki to Iseyin and Ibarapa, at the same price and turnaround.
Will a certificate help me win school, clinic, estate or farm customers? Institutions and larger customers often ask for proof of registration before ordering a system. A certificate is a useful document to hold, but it does not guarantee any contract.
Is the certificate enough to bid for commercial or government projects? It is one of the documents usually requested, but tenders commonly ask for more, such as tax documents, experience records and relevant approvals. Those are handled separately.
Can I issue invoices and warranties under my business name? Yes. Once registered, you can quote, invoice, sign agreements and issue warranties in the registered name.
I already trade informally. Can I still register? Yes. You can register at any point, and many installers register after they have already started taking jobs.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. It is one of the main documents banks ask for, together with your ID and other details.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of what you get for the ₦35,500.
What if my first-choice name is taken? Send another and we will check it straight away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.
How do I receive my certificate? As a soft copy on WhatsApp. Print it locally whenever you need a hard copy.
When does a Limited Liability Company make sense for a power business? If you are setting up with partners, an investor expects a company structure, or you plan to pursue larger commercial or community projects, a company may be worth considering from day one.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many solar and power businesses begin with a Business Name and convert as they grow. We can assist with the conversion.
Do I need to file anything with CAC after registration? Registered businesses file annual returns. It is a small, separate step, and we can help with it when it falls due.
