Bread, cakes, meat pies, doughnuts and chin-chin are staples in Rivers State, from the early-morning loaf to the wedding cake ordered a month ahead. It really is this simple: send us your business name on WhatsApp, and we’ll handle everything else.

Here’s Exactly What You’re Paying For
Your ₦35,500 is one all-inclusive payment for a Rivers State bakery or confectionery business. CAC’s government fee and our service fee both sit inside it, and nothing extra is added once you’ve paid. If you would rather start as a company, a Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.
- Name availability search on CAC’s public register
- Reservation of your chosen business name
- Preparation and submission of your CAC Business Name application
- CAC’s government filing and processing fee
- Certificate of Registration (soft copy)
- Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- CAC Status Report showing your business is active on the register
Outside the Scope of This Registration
A CAC certificate gives your business its legal name. Baking is a regulated food trade, and these steps are handled separately:
- Printed copies of your certificate (delivered as a soft copy; print locally when it suits you)
- NAFDAC registration and inspection of your bakery and products, which is separate from CAC and covers your production site
- Compliance with NAFDAC’s good hygiene practice standards, including the layout of your production area, protective gear for staff and where equipment such as generators is placed
- NAFDAC’s rules on ingredients and additives, including its stance against potassium bromate in bread
- Notifying NAFDAC if you move your production to a new site, so the new premises can be inspected
- Trademark registration for your bakery brand, which matters because cloned brand names are a known problem
- Fire and gas safety approvals for ovens, gas cylinders and your premises
- Health and food-handler requirements for your staff
- Permits from the Rivers State Signage and Advertisement Agency if you erect outdoor signage or a billboard
- State and local levies and federal tax obligations that apply to your kind of business
- Business bank account opening, done with your chosen bank once your certificate is in hand
- Annual returns in later years, a small separate step we can help with when it falls due
Business Name or Limited Liability Company?
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal asset protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Home bakers, cake studios, small bakeries, snack and pastry sellers | Larger bakeries and bread factories, wholesalers, owners with partners or investors |
For a home baker, a cake studio or a small bakery shop, a Business Name usually does the job: it gives you a legal name for orders, invoices and your bank account. A Limited Liability Company becomes worth the higher price when you run a larger production line, supply shops and institutions in volume, share ownership with partners or take in an investor, because the business then stands apart from your personal assets. Many bakers start with a Business Name and upgrade as the ovens and the orders multiply.
Bonny Island, Port Harcourt and NAFDAC’s Bakery Inspections
Bakeries in Rivers State are inspected, and unregistered ones have been shut. In March 2024 NAFDAC closed 10 bakeries and eight table-water factories in Bonny, saying most of the bakeries were unregistered and that some NAFDAC-registered ones had moved from Port Harcourt to Bonny Island without telling the agency, so the new sites had never been inspected. In July 2024 it shut four unregistered bakeries in the Port Harcourt metropolis, citing poor hygiene: dough pans kept on the floor, uncovered windows, workers without protective gear and generators sited inside production rooms. The agency took bread samples for laboratory analysis, told the owners to report to its zonal office and warned that offenders risk prosecution.
None of that is something a business-name certificate resolves, since NAFDAC registration is a separate process. What CAC registration does is give you the registered name your bakery applies, trades and invoices under. NAFDAC has urged producers to visit its office for guidance when setting up, which is a good step to plan alongside your registration. Requirements and inspection practices change, so check with NAFDAC’s South-South zonal office before you rely on this.
Your Day Starts Before Sunrise; the Paperwork Shouldn’t Eat Into It
You already know the rhythm: the oven heating while the city sleeps, dough proofing, trays turning out loaf after loaf, a wedding cake waiting for icing, a rider outside for the morning delivery and a customer asking whether the chin-chin is ready. Baking leaves little room for office work. Registering the business name is the one job on that list we can lift off you completely. When it is done, your bakery sells under a recognised name on orders, invoices and bank paperwork, and not only on a cake box.

Is This Right for Your Business?
A registration agent should suit the way you work. Here’s who tends to be happiest with us:
- You’d rather not wrestle with CAC’s portal while a tray is in the oven, a cake order is waiting for icing and a delivery rider is outside — you want the paperwork finished while the bakery keeps running.
- You’re growing from a home kitchen or one oven toward a bakery shop, wholesale supply to shops and event planners, or a branded range of snacks, and you want a registered name to grow under.
- You like straight talk about structure — a Business Name for a bakery starting out, a company when ovens, staff and wholesale orders grow.
- You want the cost settled before you start — ₦35,500, filing fee included, and nothing added once you’ve paid.
If that’s the kind of service you want, message us and we’ll begin.
Questions Rivers State Bakers and Confectioners Ask Us
How much does CAC registration cost for a bakery in Rivers State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same wherever in Rivers State you bake. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What does the ₦35,500 cover? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, CAC’s government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
How long does it take, and how do I get the certificate? Usually 5–7 working days. It arrives as a soft copy on WhatsApp, and you can print it locally.
Is a Business Name enough for a small bakery or cake business? For most home bakers, cake studios and small bakeries, yes. It gives you a legal name for orders, invoices and your bank account. Food-safety approvals are separate matters.
What should I write as the nature of my business? Plain words work best, such as “bakery and confectionery” or “cake baking and pastry sales”. We’ll help you word it when we prepare the application.
Can one registration cover bread, cakes and snacks together? Yes. Describe the nature of your business broadly, for example “bakery, cakes and snack production”. Your products may still need their own approvals.
Does CAC registration give me NAFDAC registration? No. NAFDAC registers and inspects bakeries and their products separately. Your CAC certificate gives you the registered name to apply under.
I bake cakes at home for orders. Do I need NAFDAC? NAFDAC regulates processed food, and rules differ for kitchen-based sales. Ask NAFDAC’s zonal office what applies to your set-up before you scale up.
What do NAFDAC inspectors look for in a bakery? Reported shutdowns in Port Harcourt cited dough pans kept on the floor, uncovered windows, staff without protective gear and generators inside production rooms. Check NAFDAC’s current hygiene guidance for the full list.
What if I move my bakery to a new location? NAFDAC has said that registered bakeries which relocated without telling it did not get their new sites inspected. Notify NAFDAC if you move, so the new premises can be inspected.
Are there ingredients I should avoid? NAFDAC has campaigned against potassium bromate in bread, and bakers’ association officials describe NAFDAC standards as requiring bread to be free of bromate and saccharin. Check NAFDAC’s current rules on ingredients before you bake.
Does CAC registration protect my bakery’s brand name? No. A business name registration is not a trademark. Brand protection is a separate step, and cloned bread brand names have been reported, so consider registering your brand.
Do I need a gas or fire-safety approval for ovens? Ovens and gas cylinders carry fire risks, and approvals are handled separately from CAC. Ask the relevant authority what applies to your premises.
Can I sell cakes through Instagram and WhatsApp with a registered name? Yes. A registered name gives your online shop a legal identity for invoices and payments. It does not replace food-safety requirements for what you sell.
Will a certificate help me supply shops, hotels or canteens? Buyers often ask for proof of registration before agreeing recurring orders, so the certificate is a useful document to hold. It does not guarantee any contract.
I bake from home. Can I still register? Yes. You need a business address in Rivers State with its LGA for the application, and the address you actually bake from works.
Can I register more than one outlet or bakery under one name? One registration covers your business as a whole. NAFDAC inspections and premises permits are tied to each production site, so confirm what applies to every location you run.
Do you register businesses outside Port Harcourt? Yes. We register across all of Rivers State, from Bonny and Okrika to Ahoada, Eleme and Omoku, at the same price and turnaround.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for when opening a business account, along with your ID and other details.
Can I use the certificate to apply for a loan or grant? Lenders and grant programmes commonly ask for proof of registration among other documents, so the certificate is useful to hold. It does not guarantee approval.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the ₦35,500.
Do I have to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses have annual returns to file. It is a small, separate step and we can help when it falls due.
What if my first-choice name is already taken? Send a second name. That is why we ask for two, and we’ll check the backup right away.
My bakery has been trading without registration. Is it too late? No. You can register the business name now. It will not sort out any NAFDAC or premises requirements, so deal with those separately.
When does a Limited Liability Company make more sense? Consider a company from day one if you plan to run a larger production line, supply shops and institutions in volume, share ownership with partners or bring in an investor.
Can I move from a Business Name to a company later? Yes. Many bakeries begin with a Business Name and convert as the ovens and orders multiply, and we can assist with the conversion.
