CAC Business Name Registration for Beverage in Lagos State

Lagos is a thirsty market with plenty of competition. A pineapple-and-ginger bottler in Ikorodu, a juice bar in Lekki, a drinks depot in Mushin and a zobo seller supplying offices all have one thing in common: the moment they trade beyond a roadside table, a registered business name starts to matter. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We run the name search, file the application and deliver your certificate, wherever your business operates in Lagos State. Registration costs ₦35,500, all-inclusive, with CAC’s fee and ours already built in, and the certificate typically arrives within 5–7 working days.

Send your business name on WhatsApp and consider it handled — that’s genuinely the extent of what’s asked of you.

What Your ₦35,500 Covers

One payment settles everything on this list. CAC’s government fee and our service fee are both inside the ₦35,500, and nothing gets added afterwards. If you would rather start as a company, a Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.

A Business Name suits an owner-operator who needs a legal name for invoices, a bank account and customer trust. One point worth knowing before you choose: NAFDAC’s general food registration guidelines refer to the applicant company’s CAC certificate of incorporation, while its guidance for micro-scale producers lists evidence of CAC registration as a business name and/or incorporation. Which one applies to you depends on the scale of your production, so if you plan to bottle drinks under your own NAFDAC-registered brand, confirm with NAFDAC what it will accept for your product. Larger bottling operations often choose a Limited Liability Company from the start. If you run a juice bar, a depot or a retail shop, or you are still testing recipes at small scale, a Business Name is usually enough to begin, and you can upgrade later.

Documents to Have Ready

  1. Two proposed business names, in order of preference
  2. A valid ID — National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s license
  3. A passport photograph
  4. Your Lagos business address, including the LGA
  5. A phone number and an email address
  6. A short description of your business, for example “fruit juice production and distribution” or “drinks wholesale and retail”
  7. If you choose a Limited Liability Company: names, ID and details of each director and shareholder

The Registration Timeline

  1. Name check — we search CAC’s public portal for availability, so you don’t have to.
  2. Name reservation — once a name is confirmed free, we reserve it.
  3. Application — we complete it with your business, owner and Lagos address details.
  4. ID and photo upload — a clear phone photo of each is fine.
  5. Payment — one payment of ₦35,500 covers everything listed above.
  6. Delivery — your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report reach you on WhatsApp, usually within 5–7 working days.

Six steps, and only two of them involve you — everything else runs on our end.

Why a NAFDAC Number and a Registered Name Go Hand in Hand in Lagos

In late September 2026, the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps announced that it had shut a fruit-juice production site in the Aradagun area of Badagry and arrested two women. The command alleged that the drinks were made from water, flavourings, sweeteners and colourants rather than fruit, and that the bottles carried a fake NAFDAC number, with the brand missing from the agency’s portal. The woman who runs the business told reporters it had operated for roughly twenty years and that she had been trying to regularise it with NAFDAC. Investigations were continuing with NAFDAC involved, so these remain allegations rather than findings.

The case shows how closely the drinks trade is watched. NAFDAC’s Food Registration and Regulatory Affairs directorate works from the agency’s office complex at Isolo Industrial Estate on the Oshodi–Apapa Expressway, right inside Lagos. Its food registration guidelines require a manufacturer’s factory to be inspected and recognised before a product can be registered, and they list the company’s CAC certificate among the application documents. For a legitimate producer, that makes a registered business identity the first piece of paper to put in place.

Registering Drinks Businesses Across Lagos

The price, documents and turnaround are the same wherever you trade. Here is how the Lagos drinks trade tends to spread across the state.

Your Recipe Is the Hard Part

Behind every crate of chilled juice sits a pile of unglamorous work: haggling over pineapples and oranges at the right price, washing and bottling in small batches, keeping chillers cold when the power drops, and getting deliveries across Lagos traffic before the ice melts. Paperwork belongs in some other part of the day, or better, in somebody else’s hands. Give us the name and let CAC’s portal be our problem. Once the certificate arrives, your brand has something solid to stand on when a shop owner, a bank officer or an event planner asks exactly who they are dealing with.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does CAC registration cost for a beverage or juice business in Lagos State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, whatever part of Lagos you operate in. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.

What exactly comes with the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the CAC application and filing, the government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.

Is a Business Name enough for a juice bar or a small drinks business? For most owner-run juice bars, depots, retail shops and small-batch producers, yes. It gives you a legal name for invoices, bank paperwork and customer trust.

Do I need NAFDAC registration as well? If you package drinks in sealed, labelled bottles, cans or sachets for sale, NAFDAC registration of each product applies and is separate from CAC. A drink prepared fresh and served on the spot is treated differently, so confirm your exact case with NAFDAC.

Will my CAC certificate get me a NAFDAC number? No. It gives you the registered business identity that NAFDAC applications start from. The agency then inspects your premises, tests your product and decides on its own.

Does NAFDAC accept a Business Name certificate, or does it want a company? NAFDAC’s general food guidelines refer to the applicant company’s certificate of incorporation, while its guidance for micro-scale producers lists CAC registration as a business name and/or incorporation. If you intend to bottle under your own NAFDAC-registered brand, check what the agency will accept at your scale of production; larger bottlers often choose a Limited Liability Company from the start.

I make zobo or kunu at home in small quantities. Can I register? Yes. Registering gives your drink business a legal name. Once you package for sale beyond your immediate circle, the NAFDAC and hygiene rules for packaged drinks come into play.

Can I register a business that sells drinks and snacks together? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly, for example “beverage production, snacks and general retail”.

I distribute drinks made by big brands. Does a Business Name work for a depot? Yes. Resellers and distributors register the same way, and a depot owner often finds a Business Name sufficient to start.

Can I register if I also sell alcoholic drinks? The business itself can be registered. Selling beer, wine or spirits calls for separate liquor licensing.

Does it matter which part of Lagos I trade in? No. The price, requirements and turnaround are the same from Epe to Badagry and from Ikorodu to Apapa.

I’m still setting up my production site. Can I still register? You need a Lagos business address and its LGA for the application. If you are still arranging premises, send the address you plan to use.

Does a name that CAC clears also protect my brand as a trademark? No. A name that is free on CAC’s register is not automatically a protected trademark. Trademark registration is a separate process, and it is worth doing if your brand will appear on labels.

Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number comes with the ₦35,500.

Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other details.

What happens if my first-choice name is taken? Send a backup and we will check it straight away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.

Can I move from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many drinks businesses start with a Business Name and convert when they expand production, apply for NAFDAC registration or bring in partners. We can assist with the conversion.

Do I have to file anything with CAC after registration? Registered businesses file annual returns. It is a small, separate step, and we can handle it for you when the time comes.
