Every new flat, hotel room, school and office in Lagos needs somewhere to sit, sleep and store things, and someone has to build it. If you make, upholster, repair or sell furniture in the state, registering the business under its own name is a simple way to look as solid as the pieces you produce. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We take care of the name search, the filing and the certificate, wherever your workshop or showroom is in Lagos State. One WhatsApp message with your business name is all it takes — we manage the rest.

What Your ₦35,500 Covers
One payment settles the registration for a Lagos furniture or carpentry business. CAC’s fee and ours are both inside it, and nothing is added afterwards.
- A search to confirm your preferred name is free on CAC’s register
- Reservation of the name for your business
- Your Business Name application, completed and submitted for you
- CAC’s government processing fee
- A soft copy of your Certificate of Registration
- Your Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- A CAC Status Report showing your business as active on the public register
What Falls Outside This Registration
Registration gives your business a legal name. The following sit with other bodies and are not part of the ₦35,500:
- Any permits connected to buying, moving or trading in timber and forest produce; confirm the current requirements with the relevant Lagos and federal authorities
- SON standards that may apply to products such as foam, mattresses and ready-made furniture
- Customs clearance and duties on imported foam, fabric, hardware, boards or finished furniture
- Fire-safety and electrical requirements for workshops that store timber, foam, varnish and sawdust, including any guidance from the state’s safety and fire authorities
- Rules on disposing of sawdust, offcuts and foam waste
- Shop, workshop and signage approvals for your premises
- A business bank account, opened with your chosen bank once your certificate is in hand
- Printed copies of your certificate (delivered as a soft copy, to print locally)
- Annual returns in later years — a small, separate step we can also help with
Business Name or Company for a Workshop?
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Carpenters, upholsterers, small workshops and furniture sellers | Larger factories, firms with big supply contracts, or businesses with partners |
If you build or upholster on your own or with a small team, a Business Name gives you a legal name for quotations, deposit receipts and a bank account. A company becomes the more sensible structure when you are running a larger workshop, buying materials in bulk, taking on supply contracts for hotels or schools, or sharing ownership, because the business then stands apart from your personal assets. Many furniture makers begin with a Business Name and move up later.
Where Lagos Gets Its Timber
Lagos furniture starts with wood, and for decades much of that wood came through Oko-Baba, the sawmill and plank market on the lagoon at Ebute-Metta that The Guardian has described as West Africa’s biggest wood market. It was a place of rafts, rollers, sawyers and buyers, and also of repeated fires, including a major one on 5 January 2022 that displaced sawmillers, traders and residents. The Lagos State Government has since said it relocated the Oko-Baba sawmill to a purpose-built Timberville at Agbowa-Ikosi, with a regeneration plan announced for the old Ebute-Metta site.
For anyone building furniture, that shift matters: where timber is milled, sold and delivered affects prices, delivery time and the invoices you receive from suppliers. A registered business name gives you something concrete to put on orders, receipts and supplier accounts, and a Tax Identification Number to go with it. It does not give you any rights at a sawmill or market, and it does not replace any permit connected to timber, so check the current rules for where and how you buy.
From Sawn Plank to Finished Sofa
Your week moves between the client’s sitting room, where you take measurements and argue gently about colours, and the workshop, where boards are cut, joined and sanded and foam is shaped and wrapped in fabric. Then comes the real deadline: a sofa that has to be at the house by Friday, or twenty chairs that must be ready before an opening. Deposits arrive in transfers, and the person sending the money often wants to see a proper business name on the account. We’d rather your hands stay on the wood and the upholstery. Once the business is registered, the name goes on your quotations, receipts, delivery notes and bank paperwork.
Furniture and Carpentry Trades We Register
- Furniture makers and carpenters — beds, wardrobes, tables, cabinets and custom pieces for homes and offices.
- Sofa and upholstery workshops — new sofas, re-covering, foam work and restoration.
- Mattress and foam sellers — beds, foam sheets and bedding supplies.
- Fitted-kitchen and wardrobe specialists — built-in joinery measured to the room.
- Office and school furniture suppliers — desks, chairs and storage in larger quantities.
- Furniture showrooms and importers — retailers of local and imported pieces.
- Door, window-frame and ceiling joiners — woodwork that goes into buildings rather than rooms.
- Furniture repair and refinishing teams — polishing, repairs and restoration for existing pieces.
Across the Lagos Furniture Trade
The price, requirements and turnaround are the same wherever you work. Here’s how the trade tends to be spread across the state.
Where timber and boards come in
- Ebute-Metta and Oyingbo — the old home of the Oko-Baba sawmill and the markets around it
- Ikorodu and the Agbowa side — towards the Timberville site the state has pointed to
Workshop and production districts
- Mushin, Isolo and Ilupeju — small factories and workshops tucked between streets
- Ojo and Alaba International Market — traders and makers serving the Badagry Expressway corridor
- Agege, Ikotun and Oregun — mixed workshops and light industry on the mainland
Showroom and retail districts
- Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki Phase 1 — premium showrooms and interior studios
- Ikeja, Surulere, Yaba and Maryland — mid-market stores and office-furniture sellers
- Lawanson, Idumota and Ojuelegba — budget and custom pieces for first homes and rentals
Newer estates and outer areas
- Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, Epe and Badagry — new housing that creates steady demand for built-in and loose furniture
If your workshop or showroom is anywhere in Lagos State, we’ve got you covered.
Documents to Have Ready
- Two business names, ranked in order of preference
- A valid ID — National ID (NIN), international passport, or driver’s license
- A passport photograph
- Your Lagos business address, including the LGA — a workshop, showroom or the address you operate from
- A phone number and an email address
- What your business does, described simply — for example “furniture making and upholstery” or “kitchen cabinets, wardrobes and carpentry”
- If you choose a Limited Liability Company: names, ID and details of the directors and shareholders
The Registration Timeline
- We check your name on CAC’s public search portal.
- We reserve it once it’s confirmed available.
- We complete the application with your business details and Lagos address.
- You send your ID and passport photograph — a phone picture works.
- You pay ₦35,500 once, covering all of the above.
- Your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report arrive, usually in 5–7 working days.
Six steps, and only two of them involve you — everything else runs on our end.

This Might Be a Great Fit If…
Not every registration service is the right match for every business owner, and that’s fine — here’s who tends to get the most out of working with us:
- You’d rather not work out CAC’s portal in the gaps between measuring a client’s room, cutting and sanding at the workshop, and finishing a sofa before Friday’s delivery — you want the registration done while the work carries on.
- You’re aiming beyond one-off orders — towards hotel rooms, school desks, office fit-outs and estate contracts, perhaps a bigger workshop or a showroom, and you want a registered name to grow under.
- You want honest advice, not an upsell — if a Business Name covers your stage, that’s what we’ll recommend.
- You want things kept simple — your details, one payment, your certificate.
If that sounds like how you like to do business, you’ll probably enjoy working with us.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a furniture business in Lagos State? ₦35,500, all-inclusive, for a Business Name, whether your workshop is in Mushin, Ikeja, Ojo or Ikorodu. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.
What do I get for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, the government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
Is a Business Name enough for a carpenter or upholsterer? For most carpenters, upholsterers and small workshops, yes. It gives you a registered name for quotations, receipts and a bank account. A company is worth considering if you run a larger factory, buy in bulk or have partners.
My workshop is a small shared space. Which address do I use? You need a business address in Lagos State and its LGA. Give the address you actually work from, or the one you plan to use if you are still arranging premises.
Can one registration cover furniture, upholstery, kitchens and doors? Yes. Describe the nature of your business broadly and one registration can cover all of it. Some products or activities may carry their own standards.
Can I register if I only sell furniture and don’t make it? Yes. Describe the business as furniture sales or retail. You don’t have to build anything to register.
Do I need a permit to buy or transport timber? Timber and forest produce can be subject to permits, and those are separate from CAC registration. Check the current rules with the relevant Lagos and federal authorities before you buy or move a large quantity.
I buy my wood from the sawmills. Does registration change anything there? It gives you a registered name and TIN for supplier invoices and your own records. It does not give you rights at any sawmill or timber market, and it is not a timber permit.
Do foam, mattresses and ready-made furniture have to meet standards? Some products may come under SON standards, which are handled separately from CAC. Check the current requirements for the products you make or sell.
What about imported fabric, foam, boards and hardware? Imported materials and finished furniture can be subject to customs clearance and duties. We don’t handle those, so confirm them with your supplier or clearing agent.
Are there fire-safety rules for a workshop? A workshop full of timber, foam, varnish and sawdust carries real fire risk. Requirements are handled separately from CAC, so check with the state’s safety and fire authorities for your premises.
What should I do with sawdust and foam offcuts? Disposal falls under waste and environmental rules rather than CAC registration. Ask the relevant Lagos authorities what applies to your workshop.
Will a CAC certificate help me win hotel, school or office orders? Organisations often ask for proof of registration before ordering in quantity, so the certificate is a useful document to have. It doesn’t guarantee any order.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other details. That lets customers pay deposits into an account that carries your business name.
How long does it take, and how do I receive my documents? Usually 5–7 working days. The certificate, TIN and Status Report arrive as soft copies over WhatsApp, and you can print them locally.
My workshop is far from the main roads. Do you still cover me? Yes. We register businesses across Lagos State, including Ikorodu, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki and Badagry, at the same price and turnaround.
What if my preferred business name is taken? Send a backup and we’ll check it straight away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number comes with the ₦35,500.
Do I have to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses have annual returns to file. It’s a small, separate step and we can help when it falls due.
Can I upgrade to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many furniture businesses start with a Business Name and convert as the workshop and orders grow, and we can assist with the conversion.
When does it make sense to start with a Limited Liability Company? If you have partners, an investor who requires a company structure, or plan to run a large factory or take big supply contracts from the start, a company may suit you from day one. Otherwise, a Business Name is often enough to begin.
