Whether you run a block-making yard, a depot selling cement, roofing sheets and iron rods, or a sand and granite supply business, a registered business name is what lets you issue invoices to contractors, open a business account and trade under a name that belongs to you. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We take care of the name search, the filing and the certificate for block and building-materials businesses anywhere in Plateau State, from Jos to the smallest town on the map, so you can stay at the yard.

- Reservation of the name once it clears
- Preparing and submitting your CAC Business Name application
- The government filing and processing fee paid to CAC
- Your Certificate of Registration, as a soft copy

Separate From This Registration
- Printed copies of your certificate. You receive a soft copy on WhatsApp and can print it at any business centre near you.
- Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) requirements for sandcrete blocks and other building products, including the Nigerian Industrial Standard for sandcrete blocks (NIS 87:2007) and any product certification SON asks of you. Check with the SON office what applies to your products.
- Land-use, site and building approvals for your yard, factory or depot from the relevant Plateau State and local government planning authorities.
- Rules on where your materials come from. If you buy sand, gravel and granite from suppliers, that is their licensing matter. If you extract materials yourself, state and federal mining and quarrying requirements may apply to your site, including those handled by the Plateau State ministry responsible for environment and mineral development.
- Environmental obligations for the yard, such as dust, water use, excavation pits and run-off.
- State and local tax and levy obligations, including those collected by the Plateau Internal Revenue Service, plus the federal taxes that apply to your business.
- Vehicle licensing and road-worthiness for any delivery trucks or tippers you run.
- Optional trade-association membership, such as the National Association of Block Moulders of Nigeria (NABMON).
- A business bank account, which you open directly with the bank you prefer after your certificate arrives.
- Yearly CAC returns from next year onward. This is a quick filing of its own, and we’re available to do it for you.
Business Name or Limited Liability Company: Which Fits a Block Yard?
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| Price (all-inclusive) | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Protects your personal assets | No | Yes |
| Documents you receive | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Suits | Owner-run block yards, small depots and one-person supply businesses | Larger plants, ventures with several owners, and businesses taking in outside money |
If you own and run the yard yourself and need a legal name for invoices, supplier accounts and a bank account, a Business Name usually covers it. A company structure starts to make more sense when machines, stock and vehicles represent real money at risk, when partners share ownership, or when an investor or lender expects one. Plenty of owners start with a Business Name and convert later.
What to Have on Hand
- Two proposed business names, in order of preference

- One passport photograph
- Your business address in Plateau State, including the LGA
- A phone number and an email address
- A short description of what the business does, for example “sandcrete block production and sale of building materials” or “supply of sand, gravel and cement”

- Run the name search on CAC’s public portal. We do this on our side.
- Reserve your name as soon as one is confirmed available.

- Upload your ID and passport photograph. A clear phone photo works.
- Make one payment of ₦35,500, which covers everything listed above.
- Receive your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report, typically within 5–7 working days.
From your side, that’s the entire process: one message, one payment, one certificate.
Plateau’s Block Trade, SON Standards and the State’s Mining Rules
Making blocks is a big trade on the Plateau. A 2018 Ahmadu Bello University master’s dissertation on sandcrete hollow blocks in the state counted 121 block-manufacturing industries in its survey, then tested blocks from five of them against the standard requirements. The blocks it sampled fell below those requirements, and the author linked this to quality-control practices at the yards. It is a small sample, but it shows why a block maker with a registered name, and blocks made to the Standards Organisation of Nigeria’s sandcrete standard, NIS 87:2007, has something solid to show a buyer.
Raw materials are the other Plateau-specific matter. The state, long nicknamed “Tin City”, has been associated with mining for nearly a century. In February 2025 Governor Caleb Mutfwang signed Executive Order 001, suspending mining activities across the state. The government later cleared 159 mining companies to resume operations, while operators it considers non-compliant stayed barred. If you buy sand and granite from suppliers, your main task is to make sure you are buying from legitimate sources. If you dig or quarry your own materials, check whether the state’s mining rules or the federal minerals law reach your site. Registering with CAC does not settle any of that, but it gives you the registered name that you apply under.
Registering Block and Materials Businesses Across Plateau State
We register block and building-materials businesses wherever they operate in Plateau State, and the price, requirements and turnaround stay the same everywhere.
Jos and the Bukuru–Vom belt Jos North, Jos South, Jos East, Bukuru and Vom. This is where yards, depots and supply businesses sit closest to the state’s biggest concentration of builders and buyers.
Around the Jos metropolis Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bassa, Mangu, Panyam, Bokkos and Kwolla. Block makers here tend to serve housing, farm-town building and local projects close to home.
Central and eastern Plateau Pankshin, Kanke, Amper, Kanam, Dengi and Mikang. Smaller markets where one well-run yard or depot often supplies a wide catchment.
The southern towns Langtang North, Langtang South, Shendam, Yelwa and Wase. Distances are long and material deliveries matter, so a registered, invoice-ready supplier is easier for builders to deal with.
If your yard or depot is anywhere in Plateau State, we can register it.
Your Blocks Need Time to Cure. Your Paperwork Shouldn’t
You already know the work: an early start to mix before the heat builds, blocks stacked on the rack and watered through the day, a delivery of cement to count in, a tipper of sand to direct, and rain that can stop production for a day. You know your ratios and your customers. Registration sits outside all of that, and it is one task we can lift off you entirely. Once it is done, your yard or depot has a registered name for invoices, supplier accounts, delivery notes and your bank.
A Good Match If…
Different business owners want different things from an agent — this is who we serve best:
- You’d rather not wrestle with CAC’s portal while a mixer is running, a tipper of sharp sand is waiting to be offloaded or fresh blocks need watering on the rack — you want the filing done while the yard keeps working.
- You’re aiming past walk-in buyers — towards supplying building contractors and estate developers, taking on larger orders, or opening a second yard or depot as the towns around Jos keep building.
- You prefer being told what you actually need — if the Business Name does the job today, we’ll leave the company route for when it’s worth it.
- You want a process without back-and-forth — send your details once, pay once, and there are no surprise charges afterwards.
If that’s the kind of service you want, message us and we’ll begin.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does CAC registration cost for a block industry or building-materials business in Plateau State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same wherever in the state you operate. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What is covered by the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, the government fee, a soft copy of your Certificate of Registration, a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
How long does it take? Usually 5–7 working days from the point your details and payment are in.
Is a Business Name enough for a block yard or a materials shop? For most owner-run yards, depots and supply businesses, yes. It gives you the registered name and standing you need to trade and to open a bank account. Product standards and site approvals are separate matters.
When does a Limited Liability Company make more sense? When you run a larger plant, share ownership with partners, hold significant machinery and stock, or an investor or lender asks for a company structure. In those cases it is worth considering from day one.
Does CAC registration replace SON certification? No. SON deals with the quality of your products, including sandcrete blocks, and CAC registration does not stand in for it. Ask the SON office which requirements apply to what you make or sell.
Do I need approval to set up a block yard or depot? Land-use and site approvals come from the relevant state and local authorities and are handled separately from CAC. Confirm what applies to your location before you build or expand.
I buy my sand and granite from suppliers. Does that change anything? Not for the CAC registration. Where materials are extracted by you directly, mining or quarrying rules may apply to that activity, and those are outside this registration.
Can one registration cover blocks and other building materials? Yes. Describe the nature of your business broadly, for example block production together with the sale of cement, roofing sheets and rods.
Can I register if my yard is in a smaller town such as Vom, Dengi or Yelwa? Yes. We register businesses across Plateau State at the same price and turnaround.
Do I need a fixed yard address before registering? You need a business address in Plateau State, with the LGA, for the application. If you are still arranging a site, send the address you intend to use.
Can I register more than one yard or depot under one name? One registration covers your business as a whole. Approvals and local obligations can differ by site, so confirm what each location needs.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. Banks generally ask for the CAC certificate along with your ID and other details.
Is the TIN included? Yes, a Tax Identification Number comes with the ₦35,500.
Will the certificate help me supply contractors or developers? Builders and firms often ask for proof of registration before buying in volume or on a recurring basis, so it is a useful document to hold. It does not guarantee any order.
Do I need to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses file annual returns. Filing them is a quick job on its own, and we can take it on for you when it falls due.
What if my first-choice name isn’t available? Give us your second choice and we’ll run it through the search straight away. That is why we ask for two names up front.
Can I move from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes, and many owners do as the business grows or partners join. We can assist with the conversion.
