Lagos State

CAC Business Name Registration for Cosmetics in Lagos State

In Lagos, beauty and jewellery are trades of appearances: a well-lit stall, a polished Instagram page, a studio chair booked for a wedding weekend. Behind the polish, a business that sells necklaces, skincare or makeup services is easier to trust, and easier to run, when it trades under a registered name that suppliers, banks and customers can verify. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We handle the name search, the filing and the certificate for you, wherever your shop, stall or studio is in Lagos State, so your time goes to clients and stock. Message us your business name on WhatsApp, and the filing, the follow-up and the certificate are ours to deal with.

What Your ₦35,500 Covers

One payment settles it. CAC’s filing fee and our service fee are both built into the price, so nothing extra turns up afterwards. If you would rather start as a company, a Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.

If you sell jewellery, retail other people’s registered beauty products or offer makeup services, a Business Name is usually enough to trade, invoice and bank under. The picture changes if you make or import cosmetics under your own brand. NAFDAC’s own cosmetics guidance requires registration before a cosmetic product is sold, and legal guides to its process note that applicants are generally expected to submit a certificate of incorporation, which points to a company. Brand owners should confirm with NAFDAC what it accepts before choosing a structure. Many sellers start with a Business Name and convert later.

Two Regulators Beauty and Jewellery Owners Meet Early

Cosmetics and jewellery each come with a national regulator that sits next to CAC. For cosmetics, it is NAFDAC. Its guidelines state that no cosmetic product may be manufactured, imported, advertised, sold or distributed in Nigeria unless it has been registered with the agency. That matters most for brand owners and importers, since they are the ones who apply to register products. It also matters for resellers, who are expected to stock products that carry registration.

For jewellery, it is SCUML, the anti-money-laundering unit of the EFCC. Dealers in jewellery are among the businesses designated for registration under Nigeria’s money laundering law, alongside dealers in precious metals and stones and in luxury goods. SCUML’s own requirements for jewellery dealers list the CAC business name certificate among the documents, and the agency says registration is free and only handled through its official channels, so we do not process it. Whether your activity falls within SCUML’s scope depends on what and how you trade, so check with SCUML directly. In both cases the sequence is the same: register the business name first, then handle the sector approvals.

Fine Details Are the Product

Your work depends on details customers see at once: a clasp that closes cleanly, a shade that matches a skin tone, a lash set finished before the bride’s car arrives, a stall photographed in good light. There are bookings to confirm, stock to order and clients who message at all hours, and in between you are expected to look calm and polished. Government paperwork is the one thing on your list that adds no sparkle, which is why we take it off your hands. After it’s done, your brand has a registered name to put on invoices, supplier accounts, bank documents and the page your customers already follow.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to register a cosmetics or jewellery business in Lagos State? ₦35,500, all-inclusive, for a Business Name, wherever in Lagos you operate. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.

What do I get for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC application, the government filing fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.

Is a Business Name enough for a jewellery shop, makeup studio or beauty retail business? For most owner-run sellers and service providers, yes. It gives you the legal name to trade, invoice and bank under. Brand owners who manufacture or import cosmetics should check NAFDAC’s requirements before choosing.

Do I need NAFDAC registration to sell cosmetics? NAFDAC’s guidelines say cosmetic products must be registered before they are manufactured, imported, advertised or sold. If you resell products from other brands, check that they carry NAFDAC registration. NAFDAC is separate from CAC.

I make my own skincare products. Can I register with NAFDAC using a Business Name? NAFDAC’s small-scale guidance lists evidence of CAC registration among its requirements, while legal guides to its wider process mention a certificate of incorporation. Ask NAFDAC what it accepts for your scale. Many brand owners choose a Limited Liability Company.

Do jewellery sellers need SCUML registration? Dealers in jewellery are among the businesses designated for SCUML registration under Nigeria’s money laundering law. SCUML says registration is free and done only through its official channels. Check whether your activity falls within its scope.

Do makeup artists and beauty studios register the same way? Yes. Service businesses register exactly like sellers. Describe the work as “makeup services” or “beauty services,” along with any products you sell.

Can I register if I work from home or travel to clients? Yes. The application needs a Lagos State address and its LGA. Use the home or studio address you operate from.

How should I describe the nature of business? Keep it plain and a little broad, for example “sale of jewellery, cosmetics and beauty products” or “makeup services and sale of beauty products.” A broad description lets you add lines later.

Can I register jewellery and cosmetics under one name? Yes. One registration can cover both. The sector approvals for each line remain separate.

I sell only on Instagram or WhatsApp. Can I still register? Yes. Online sellers register the same way. You’ll still need a Lagos State address and its LGA for the application.

Will suppliers and wholesalers ask for my certificate? Many do, especially before extending credit or agreeing bulk deals. The certificate is proof that your business exists. It doesn’t guarantee supply terms or credit.

Does a CAC business name protect my brand as a trademark? No. A registered business name and a trademark are different things. Trademark registration is a separate process, and NAFDAC asks for trademark evidence for some product registrations.

Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for when opening a business account, with your ID and other details.

Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of the ₦35,500.

Do I have to file anything with CAC after the first year? Registered businesses have annual returns to file. It’s a small, separate step, and we can help when it’s due.

What if my first-choice name is already taken? Send a backup name and we’ll check it straight away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.

Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many beauty and jewellery businesses start with a Business Name and convert when they launch a product line or take on partners, and we can help with the conversion.

When does it make sense to start as a Limited Liability Company? If you plan to manufacture or import products under your own brand, bring in partners or investors, or supply retailers who prefer to contract with a company, starting as an LLC is worth considering.

I have two outlets. Does one registration cover both? One registration covers your business as a whole. Premises-level requirements, such as LIRS registration, are separate for each location, so confirm what applies to each.

Do beauty studios need other approvals for their premises? Possibly. Requirements for premises depend on your activity and the local authorities involved, and they are separate from CAC. Ask your LGA or the relevant state office what applies to your studio.

Do you register businesses outside the main beauty and market districts? Yes. We register beauty and jewellery businesses across all of Lagos State, from Ikorodu and Epe to Badagry and Apapa, at the same price and turnaround.
