CAC Business Name Registration for Electronics in Lagos State

Televisions, phones, cables, sockets, generators, inverters, laptops and the people who sell, install and repair them keep a very large part of Lagos running. If you trade in electrical or electronic goods, or offer repair and installation, a registered business name gives your shop, workshop or import business an identity that suppliers, banks and corporate buyers can recognise. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We do the name search, the filing and the certificate, wherever you operate in Lagos State. Registration costs ₦35,500, all-inclusive, with CAC’s fee and ours both built into that price, and the certificate typically arrives in 5–7 working days.

Tell us your business name on WhatsApp, and every other part of the registration becomes our job.

A Business Name suits an owner-operator running a shop, repair bench or small contracting outfit who needs a legal name for invoices, supplier accounts and a business bank account. A Limited Liability Company is worth considering once you import in volume, take on large installation or supply contracts, or share ownership with partners, because the business then stands apart from your personal assets. Plenty of electronics traders start with a Business Name and upgrade as they grow.

Information We Need From You

  1. Two business names, in your order of preference
  2. A valid ID — National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s license
  3. A passport photograph
  4. Your Lagos business address, with the LGA
  5. A phone number and email address
  6. A short description of the business, for example “sale of electrical and electronic goods” or “electrical installation and phone repairs”
  7. For a Limited Liability Company only: names, ID and details of the directors and shareholders

How Your Registration Moves Along

  1. Name search — we check CAC’s public portal to see whether your name is available.
  2. Reservation — we reserve the name once it is confirmed.
  3. Application — we complete it with your business, owner and Lagos address details.
  4. ID and photo — you upload them; a clear phone photo works.
  5. Payment — you make one payment of ₦35,500, covering everything above.
  6. Certificate — your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report arrive on WhatsApp, usually within 5–7 working days.

Your involvement ends with the details you send and the payment you make; the filing and follow-up are ours.

Alaba, Computer Village and the Certification Question

Lagos is home to Nigeria’s best-known electronics markets. Alaba International Market in Ojo is widely described as the largest electronics market in the country, and Computer Village in Ikeja is the city’s famous phone and computer hub. Both trades face the same problem: customers worry about fake and substandard goods. A recent Daily Trust look inside Computer Village notes that manufacturers are expected to get NCC type approval before selling mobile devices, and that SON has raided the market several times over fake and sub-standard products.

Certification is how genuine makers set themselves apart. SON publishes a 2024–2029 list of certified products for the electrical and electronics sector, and its Lagos-based entries include cable brands with Alaba International Market addresses and lighting and electrical-accessory products from the Free Trade Zone in Ibeju-Lekki. A CAC certificate does not certify any product, and it does not replace NCC, SON or NEMSA requirements. It gives you a registered business name to put on invoices, import documents and warranty cards, which is where buyers look first when they decide whether to trust a seller. Check current requirements with the relevant agencies for the goods you handle.

Registering Electrical and Electronics Businesses Across Lagos

The price, documents and turnaround are the same in every part of the state. Here is how the trade is spread.

Wholesale and import hubs

Retail and repair neighbourhoods

Showrooms and the premium end

Manufacturing and outer areas

If your business is anywhere in Lagos State, we can register it.

Test It, Fix It, Sell It

Electronics trade runs on tests. A customer plugs in a television before paying, a phone sits on the bench while the screen is replaced, a container arrives and has to be checked against the invoice. Prices shift with the exchange rate, and a missed call from a supplier can cost a sale. In the middle of that, the one job that never feels urgent is registration, which is why it keeps slipping. Hand it to us. When the certificate arrives, your business has a registered name for receipts, warranty cards and quotations, ready for the day an office manager, estate developer or bank asks who they are dealing with.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does CAC registration cost for an electronics or electrical business in Lagos State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, wherever in Lagos you operate. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.

What do I get for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the CAC application and filing, the government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.

Is a Business Name enough for an electronics shop or repair workshop? For most owner-run shops, workshops and small contractors, yes. It gives you the legal name you need to trade, invoice and open a bank account.

Does CAC registration give my products SON certification? No. SON certification is a separate process for products. CAC registration gives your business a registered name to apply under.

Do I need NCC type approval to sell phones? NCC type approval applies to mobile devices and certain telecom equipment, and it is separate from CAC. Confirm what applies to the products you stock.

I do electrical installations. Does the certificate cover licensing for that work? No. NEMSA and other bodies set the requirements for installation and contracting work. A registered name helps with contracts and invoices but does not replace those approvals.

I run a phone or TV repair bench. Can I register? Yes. Describe the business as phone, television and electronics repairs.

Can I register an electrical contracting business? Yes. Describe it as electrical installation and wiring, and add any supply of materials you offer.

I import electronics. Does registration cover that? The registration gives you a business name and TIN. Customs clearance, duties and import permits are separate, and importers at volume often consider a Limited Liability Company.

Can I register an online electronics business that sells on social media? Yes. You need a Lagos address and LGA for the application, such as your shop, home or office.

I sell electrical items, phones and accessories together. How do I describe the business? Keep the description broad, for example “sale of electrical and electronic goods and accessories.”

I sell UK-used laptops and refurbished devices. Can I register? Yes. The business can be registered. Import rules and environmental rules on electronic waste are handled separately.

My shop is in Alaba or Computer Village. Which address do I use? Use your shop or stall address, including the line, block or shop number, and the LGA. If you have no fixed shop, send the address you operate from.

Does it matter which part of Lagos I trade in? No. The price, requirements and turnaround are the same from Badagry to Epe and from Ikorodu to Apapa.

I haven’t rented a shop yet. Can I still go ahead? You need a Lagos address and LGA for the application. If you are still looking, send the address you plan to use.

Can I run several shops under one business name? One registration covers the business as a whole. Shop permits and similar charges usually attach to each location, so check what applies at every site.

Will suppliers, offices and estate developers ask for my CAC certificate? Many ask for proof of registration before supplying on credit or placing regular and bulk orders, so it is a useful document to hold. It does not guarantee any order or credit line.

Can I protect my product brand name through this registration? No. A name that is free on CAC’s register is not automatically a protected trademark. Trademark registration is a separate process.

Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number comes with the ₦35,500.

Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other details.

What if my first-choice name is taken? Send a backup and we will check it right away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.

Can I move from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many electronics traders start with a Business Name and convert when they import more, sign larger contracts or bring in partners. We can assist with the conversion.

Do I have to file anything with CAC after registration? Registered businesses file annual returns. It is a small, separate step, and we can handle it for you when it falls due.
