A Business Name is ₦35,500, all-inclusive, and a Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive. Send your business name on WhatsApp and consider it handled — that’s genuinely the extent of what’s asked of you.

Oyo Now Has Its Own Electricity Regulator
For anyone selling or installing electrical equipment in Oyo, the power sector around you has changed recently. Governor Seyi Makinde signed the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission Bill into law in February 2024, giving the state a legal basis to generate, transmit and distribute electricity within its borders. On 6 August 2024, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) issued an order handing oversight of Oyo’s intrastate electricity market to the new Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (OSERC). The order also required the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to set up a subsidiary to take over intrastate supply and distribution, which must hold a licence from OSERC. NERC keeps oversight of inter-state and international matters.
For a shop owner, this does not mean a new licence just to sell bulbs or phones. It does mean that when your work touches metering, grid connections or the electricity market itself, the regulator in Oyo is now a state body, so confirm which rules apply to you. CAC registration is a different step and replaces none of this. It gives you a registered business name to deal with regulators, distributors and suppliers under, so the sensible order is to register the name first and then handle the approvals that fit what you sell or install.

What Falls Outside This Registration
Electrical and electronics trading brings its own set of approvals beyond CAC. They are handled separately, and which ones apply depends on what you stock and install:
- Product standards and conformity requirements from the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) for electrical goods you import or sell
- Type approval rules from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) that may apply to phones and other communication devices
- Import permits, customs clearance and duties if you bring in stock from abroad
- Rules from the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission and NERC where your work involves metering, grid connection or electricity supply
- Any trade or professional registrations required for electrical installation work, depending on the jobs you take
- Environmental rules on electrical and electronic waste, which may apply to repairers and sellers handling old equipment
- Fire-safety and premises approvals for shops and warehouses stocking large quantities of electrical goods and batteries
- Sales and income taxes that apply to your type of trade
- A business bank account, opened with the bank you choose once your certificate arrives
- Printed copies of the certificate, which you receive as a soft copy and can print locally
- CAC annual returns in coming years, a separate step we can also take care of when it falls due
What Your ₦35,500 Covers
One payment covers CAC’s own fee and ours, so there are no add-ons later. If a company suits you better, the Limited Liability Company costs ₦65,500, all-inclusive.
- A name search to confirm your chosen business name is free on CAC’s register
- Reservation of the name
- Preparation and submission of your Business Name application to CAC
- CAC’s filing and processing fee
- Your Certificate of Registration, delivered digitally
- Your Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- A CAC Status Report showing your business on the public register
Business Name vs. Limited Liability Company
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Single-shop owners, repairers and installers working on their own | Larger dealers, importers and contractors with partners, staff teams or outside investors |
If you run one shop or a repair bench by yourself, a Business Name usually does the job. A company structure starts to make sense when your inventory is large, when partners share the business, when you take on bigger installation contracts or when investors come in, because the business then stands apart from your personal assets. Many electrical and electronics sellers start with a Business Name and upgrade as stock and contracts grow.

Original Stock Sells Itself; the Paperwork Shouldn’t Slow You Down
You know which brand of cable holds up, which chargers come back with complaints and which customers want a receipt with the warranty written on it. Your days go on testing sockets, explaining voltage and wattage, tracing faults on a repair bench and ordering stock before the last carton runs out. Because outages drive so much of the demand for inverters, stabilisers and backup lighting, busy weeks tend to follow bad power. Registering the business name is one task on that list that can be handled for you completely. When it is done, you have a registered name for receipts, supplier accounts and bank forms.
A Good Match If…
Different business owners want different things from an agent — this is who we serve best:
- You’d rather not work through CAC’s portal while a customer waits for a tested television or a repair is half-finished on the bench — you want the registration finished while the shop keeps running.
- You’re growing from a single shop toward supplying other retailers, taking installation contracts or opening a second outlet — and you want a registered name to build that on.
- You want a recommendation that fits your size — not the biggest package by default.
- You’d rather not chase anyone — one message starts it, and the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.
If that sounds like you, send your business name and we’ll get started.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for an electronics business in Oyo State? ₦35,500 for a Business Name, all-inclusive, wherever in Oyo you trade. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.
What does the ₦35,500 include? Checking and reserving your name, filing the application, CAC’s own fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
Is a Business Name enough to open an electrical or electronics shop? For most owner-run shops and workshops it is the normal starting point, because it gives the business a legal name. Product, import and installation-related approvals are separate matters.
Does CAC registration replace SON or NCC requirements? No. Those are issued or enforced by their own agencies and depend on the goods you sell. The CAC certificate gives you a registered name to deal with them under.
Do I need anything extra to sell phones and gadgets? Possibly. NCC type-approval rules may apply to some communication devices, so check what covers the products you stock.
I import electrical goods. Does CAC registration cover that? It gives you the registered business name you will need, but import permits, customs clearance and standards compliance are handled separately.
Can I register a repair workshop? Yes. Describe the nature of business as repairs and servicing, and mention any parts or accessories you sell alongside.
I do wiring and installation jobs. Can I register as an installer? Yes. State the nature of business as electrical installation, and check whether any trade or professional registration applies to the jobs you take.
Does the new Oyo electricity regulator affect my shop? Selling electrical goods does not usually involve a licence from it, but work touching metering, grid connections or electricity supply may. Confirm with the relevant regulator for your activities.
Can I register a shop and a repair bench under one name? Yes. Write the nature of business broadly enough to cover both. Approvals tied to premises tend to be location-specific, so check what each site needs.
What address do I use if I work from a stall or from home? Use the address where the business operates, with the LGA stated. If you are still looking for a shop, give us the address you plan to use.
Is registration worth it for a small seller with one stall? It gives you a legal business name, which helps with bank accounts, supplier credit conversations and larger customers. We will tell you plainly if the Business Name is all you need.
Will the certificate help me sell to offices, schools or contractors? Organisations often ask for proof of registration before placing regular orders, so it is a useful document to have. It does not guarantee any order.
Can I use the certificate to open a business account? Usually yes. Most banks want the certificate plus your ID and a few other details.
Is my TIN part of the package? Yes, the Tax Identification Number comes with the ₦35,500.
What if the name I picked is already registered? We let you know quickly and check your next choice, so bring a few options.
Are there CAC filings after the first registration? Annual returns are due in later years. They are separate from this registration, and we can handle them when the time comes.
Can I convert from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company? Yes. Many sellers register a Business Name first and convert as their stock, contracts or partners grow. We can help with the conversion.
Should a bigger electronics business begin as a Limited Liability Company? It can make sense for a large dealership, an import business, a contracting firm with partners or a business with outside investors. The structure separates the business from your personal assets, but it does not remove your duties under standards, safety or environmental rules.
Do you register businesses outside Ibadan? Yes. We register electrical and electronics businesses across Oyo State, from Ogbomosho and Oyo town to Saki and Igbo-Ora, at the same price and turnaround.
