What Your ₦35,500 Covers

For ₦35,500, all-inclusive, we register a farming, fishing or agro business in Lagos State, with CAC’s filing fee and our service fee already combined. A Business Name is the simpler route and suits most growers and traders. If you’d rather start as a company, a Limited Liability Company is available at ₦65,500, all-inclusive.

What Falls Outside This Registration

Business Name vs. Limited Liability Company

Best forSmallholders, fish farmers, produce traders and urban growersLarger farms, processors, bulk suppliers, and ventures with partners or investors

A Business Name gives most growers, fishers and produce traders a legal name to sell, invoice and bank under. A Limited Liability Company starts to make sense when the operation grows into a large farm or processing business, brings in co-owners or investors, or takes on supply contracts big enough that you want your personal assets kept separate. Starting with a Business Name and moving up later is a normal path.

Documents to Have Ready

  1. Two proposed business names, ranked by preference
  2. A valid means of ID — National ID (NIN), international passport, or driver’s license
  3. A passport photograph
  4. Your business address in Lagos State — indicating the LGA
  5. Phone number and email address
  6. Nature of business — described simply, e.g. “crop farming and produce supply” or “fish farming and fish processing”
  7. If you choose Limited Liability Company instead: names, ID and details of directors and shareholders

The Registration Timeline

  1. Check name availability on CAC’s public search portal — handled on our end.
  2. Reserve the name once availability is confirmed.
  3. Complete the application with your business, director and Lagos address details.
  4. Upload your ID and passport photograph — a phone photo is fine.
  5. Pay the ₦35,500 filing fee, one payment that covers everything above.
  6. Receive your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report, usually within 5–7 working days.

From your side, that’s the entire process: one message, one payment, one certificate.

Lagos Agriculture Is Bigger Than Most People Assume

The state’s own fisheries department says Lagos has more than 26,600 registered fish farmers and about 9,000 artisanal fishermen, working around the lagoon, creeks and ocean that surround the state. It lists fish farm estates, such as the one at Odogunyan in Ikorodu, and a Lagos Aquaculture Centre of Excellence that, according to the state commissioner’s 2026 briefing, has begun construction.

On the crop side, the Lagos Rice Mill at Imota in Ikorodu opened in 2023 and is described by the state as the largest rice mill in Africa. The state says it has planted rice fields in places such as Eggua, Agonrin and Ganyingbo to supply paddy to the mill. The same briefing mentioned new agro-produce hubs under development in Agege, Opebi, Ikorodu and Bombata, with more sites identified in Apapa, Festac and Lekki. It also spoke of a food logistics hub in Epe due for a first-phase commissioning before the end of 2026. These are state plans and statements, so check how each one has progressed before relying on it.

For a farmer, fisher or trader, the practical point is simple. More mills, hubs and buyers means more people asking who you are, and a registered business name is the first thing you can show them.

Planting and Harvest Don’t Wait; Neither Should Your Paperwork

Farming runs on a calendar nobody can reschedule: seedlings that need transplanting this week, fish that need feeding every day, a harvest that has to reach the buyer before it spoils. Whether you work a plot, a pond, a nursery or a stall, none of that stops while a form waits. Registering your business name is a one-time task, and once it’s done your produce has a registered name behind it when you deal with buyers, banks and suppliers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does CAC registration cost for a farming business in Lagos State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same wherever in Lagos you are. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.

What do I get for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, the government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.

Is a Business Name enough for a farm or fish farm? For most smallholders, fish farmers and produce traders, a Business Name gives you the registered name you need to start trading properly. Other approvals depend on what you do and are handled separately.

Can I register crop farming and fish farming under one name? Yes. Describe your nature of business broadly, for example “crop farming, fish farming and produce supply”, and one registration covers the whole business.

I farm on a small plot or in containers at home. Can I still register? Yes. You need a business address in Lagos State and your LGA. A farm site, home, shop or storage location can all work.

Do I need to own the land before I register? CAC asks for a business address, not proof of land ownership. Land documents, tenancy and land-use charges are separate, so keep those in order with your landlord or the relevant authority.

Does this registration give me permission to fish or run a fish pond? No. CAC registration gives your business a legal name. Any fishing or aquaculture requirements from the state authorities are separate, so confirm them before you start.

Do I need NAFDAC if I process or package farm produce? If you sell processed or packaged food under your own label, NAFDAC registration usually applies and is separate from CAC. Raw produce is treated differently, so check your specific product.

Will registration get me into Lagos State farmer support programmes? The state runs training and support programmes for agribusinesses, but eligibility and selection are decided by the programme. A registered name can help you show you’re a real business. It does not guarantee a place.

Will a CAC certificate help me sell to supermarkets, hotels or processors? Larger buyers often ask for proof of registration before setting up a supply account, so the certificate is a useful document to have. It does not guarantee any order.

Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for when opening a business account, along with your ID and other details.

Do you register farms outside the city centre, like Epe or Badagry? Yes. We register farming, fishing and agro businesses across all of Lagos State at the same price and turnaround.

When should I move from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company? Usually once you scale into a large farm or processing operation, take on bigger supply contracts, or bring in partners or investors.

Can I upgrade later without starting over? Yes. Many farm businesses begin with a Business Name and convert when the operation grows. We can help with the conversion.

Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the ₦35,500.

Do I have to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses have annual returns to file. It is a small, separate step and we can help with it when the time comes.

What if my proposed business name isn’t available? Send a backup name and we will check it right away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.

Can I register a farm and a produce shop under the same name? Yes, describe your nature of business broadly. Any special approvals for processing or retail are handled separately.
