CAC Business Name Registration for Fashion Design in Ogun State

Cutting patterns, fitting customers, finishing asoebi orders and keeping a row of sewing machines humming is hard enough without a government portal on top of it. If you run a tailoring shop, a fashion label or a small design studio anywhere in Ogun State, Onelove Business Ventures can register your business name with CAC for you. We are an accredited CAC agent and we handle the name search, the filing and the certificate, so your label has a legal name before the next big order comes in. There’s no extra step hiding behind this: message us your business name, and we take it from there.

Why Abeokuta’s Cloth Trade Matters to Your Business

Anyone sewing in Ogun State works close to one of Nigeria’s best-known cloth traditions. Abeokuta is widely regarded as the capital of adire, the resist-dyed fabric made by Egba women, and its main production site is Itoku in Abeokuta South. A 2024 Trust Radio report, as relayed by Marie Claire Nigeria, said more than 1,500 women are directly involved in making, marketing and selling adire and Kampala in the Itoku and Kemta areas. The state’s first lady launched Adire Market Week in 2022 to promote the cloth and protect local textile makers.

The same coverage shows a trade under pressure. Sellers in Itoku have complained about machine-made imports designed to look like handmade adire, and in 2023 the Alake of Egbaland set up a committee to look into imitations reaching Abeokuta’s markets. For a designer or tailor who builds collections around local cloth, that is the practical reason to have a registered name: it lets you invoice, take deposits and deal with fabric sellers, boutiques and bulk buyers as a proper business. To be clear about the limits, CAC registration does not protect your designs or stop anyone copying them. Brand and design protection are handled elsewhere (see below).

The Full Breakdown of Your ₦35,500

One payment covers it all, with CAC’s filing fee and our service fee both included, so nothing is added after you’ve paid. If you’d rather start as a company, a Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.

A sensible choice forTailors, designers with a studio or shop, and one-person labelsFashion houses with co-founders, investors, or large uniform and retail contracts

A tailor or designer working alone, or with a few staff and apprentices, can usually start comfortably with a Business Name. A Limited Liability Company becomes worth it when you bring in a partner, take investor money, or begin bidding for large corporate or institutional orders where the business should stand apart from you personally. It’s common to begin with the Business Name and upgrade later.

What to Have on Hand

  1. Two business names you’d like, in order of preference (your label or shop name)
  2. A valid ID — National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s license
  3. A passport photograph
  4. Your business address in Ogun State with the LGA
  5. A phone number and an email address
  6. A short description of what you do, for example “fashion design and tailoring” or “clothing production, alterations and sale of fabrics”
  7. Only for a Limited Liability Company: the names, ID and details of directors and shareholders

How We Get You Registered

  1. We run the name search on CAC’s public portal to see whether your name is free.
  2. We reserve the name as soon as it’s confirmed.
  3. We prepare the application with your business details and Ogun address.
  4. You send your ID and passport photograph — a photo taken on your phone is fine.
  5. You make one payment of ₦35,500, which covers everything listed above.
  6. Your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report reach you, normally within 5–7 working days.

Six steps, and only two of them involve you — everything else runs on our end.

Deadlines Don’t Wait for Paperwork

Owambe season does not care that your registration is still pending. There’s an asoebi order due on Friday, a bride’s fitting on Thursday, a school uniform batch waiting for buttons, and the generator needs fuel again. Your customers see the tape measure, the pins and the finished seams. What they don’t see is the paperwork that lets you issue a proper receipt, take a deposit under a registered name and open a bank account for the business. We would like to have that done in the background while you finish the garments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to register my tailoring or fashion business with CAC? If you trade under a name other than your own, registering that name is the standard route. Banks, fabric suppliers, boutiques and corporate buyers commonly expect to see the certificate.

How much does CAC registration cost for a fashion design business in Ogun State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, wherever in Ogun you work. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.

What do I receive for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC application, the government filing fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.

I’m a home-based tailor with an apprentice or two. Is a Business Name right for me? Usually, yes. A Business Name suits one-person and small-team operations, and you can upgrade to a company later if you grow.

Can I register under my label’s name rather than my own name? Yes. Give us your preferred label or shop name and a backup, and we check availability before reserving it.

Does registering with CAC protect my brand name or my designs? No. A business name registration gives you a legal identity, but trademarks, copyright and design protection are handled by other bodies and are separate from CAC.

I sew uniforms and asoebi for churches, schools and associations. Does a registered name help? Organisations that place bulk orders often ask for proof of registration first, so the certificate is a useful document. It doesn’t guarantee any order.

Can I register a fabric or adire business and my sewing business together? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly, for example sewing, design and sale of fabrics, so the registration reflects everything you do.

My boutique sells ready-made clothes as well as custom pieces. Can that go under one name? Yes. One registration covers the business as a whole, and you can describe both the retail and the made-to-order sides.

Do I need extra permits to run a sewing workshop? CAC registration doesn’t cover local requirements. Your local government may charge shop or signage levies, so ask them what applies where you work.

I buy lace and machines from abroad. Does this registration handle imports? No. Customs clearance and duties are separate. The registration gives you the legal business name to import under.

What address do I use if I work from home or a stall in Itoku or another market? Use the address where you operate, with the market name if you have a stall, and state the LGA. If you haven’t settled on a location, send the address you plan to use.

Does the ₦35,500 include a TIN? Yes. The Tax Identification Number is part of the package.

Will the certificate help me open a bank account or buy fabric on credit? Banks usually ask for it when opening a business account, and suppliers sometimes want proof of registration before offering credit. It supports the application, but it doesn’t guarantee credit.

Can I register a fashion training studio? You can register the business name, describing the nature of business as fashion design and training. Any approvals for running a formal school are separate from CAC.

What if the name I want is already in use? Send us a second and third choice and we’ll check them quickly. Backup names save time.

Can I switch to a Limited Liability Company later, and when should I start with one? Yes, and we can help with the conversion. Starting with a company is worth considering if you have partners, expect investors, or plan to chase large uniform or retail contracts from the beginning.

Is there anything to file with CAC each year? Registered businesses do have annual returns to file. We can look after that when the time comes.

Do you cover areas outside Abeokuta and Sagamu? Yes. We register fashion and tailoring businesses across Ogun State, from Ijebu Ode and Ogun Waterside to Ilaro and Idiroko, at the same price and timeline.
