Fashion work in Plateau State runs on measurements, trust and deadlines, whether you are a designer with a studio in Jos, a tailor with a shop in Bukuru, or a seamstress taking wedding orders in Pankshin or Shendam. Putting your label or tailoring shop under a registered business name is one of the simplest ways to show clients, suppliers and banks that the business is real. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We handle the name search, the filing and the certificate for you, wherever your studio or shop is in Plateau State. Your part is one WhatsApp message with your business name; the registration work after that is ours.
Guodo, Tin City Fashion Week and Why a Registered Name Helps in Jos
Plateau has a fashion calendar of its own, and it is built around cloth. Tin City Fashion Week, organised in Jos by Christabel Bentu, held its first edition in November 2021 and has been centred on guodo, a hand-woven fabric worn by communities across the Middle Belt, including Plateau, Kogi, Taraba, Kaduna, Benue and Nasarawa. (Press reports spell the cloth guodo, goudo and even igodo.) The fourth edition took place at Novel Suites in Jos on 17 November 2024, with more than ten designers on the runway. Governor Caleb Mutfwang was represented by the General Manager of the Plateau State Tourism Corporation, who welcomed the event as a way of drawing visitors and promoting the state’s culture and economy. A fifth edition, themed “Guodo Glam”, was announced for 16 November 2025 at Novel Suites & Resort, with guest designers from Ghana and Seychelles alongside talent from Port Harcourt, Lagos and Abuja.
For a Plateau designer, that is a good reason to trade under a proper name. A label that appears on a lookbook, a sponsor’s list or an invoice to a bulk buyer carries more weight when it matches a registered business. We have not seen a published CAC requirement for taking part in any fashion week, so treat registration as a practical advantage rather than an entry ticket, and check each event’s own rules and current dates with its organisers.

Business Name or Limited Liability Company?
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Solo designers, tailoring shops and small studios taking client orders | Growing labels, shared ownership, or businesses courting investors and big buyers |
For one designer or one tailoring shop, a Business Name is usually all you need to put a legal name on receipts, social media pages and a bank account. The company route starts to earn its extra cost when two or more people own the label, when you take on larger institutional orders, or when an investor wants a company structure. Plenty of designers register a Business Name first and convert later.
Have These Ready Before You Message
- Two business names you would be happy with, in order of preference
- One valid ID: National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s license
- A passport photograph
- Your business address in Plateau State, with the LGA it falls under
- A phone number and an email address
- A simple description of the business, for example “fashion design and tailoring” or “bridal wear and native attire”
- For a Limited Liability Company only: names, ID and details of each director and shareholder
What Happens After You Message Us
- We check name availability on CAC’s public search portal.
- We reserve the name as soon as it is confirmed.
- We complete the application with your business, owner and Plateau address details.
- You send your ID and passport photograph, and a phone picture works.
- You make one payment of ₦35,500, covering every item listed above.
- Your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report arrive, normally within 5–7 working days.
After you have sent your details and made that one payment, there is nothing left for you to follow up; we carry it through to the certificate.
Still on Your List After the Certificate
- A printed copy of your certificate (we deliver a soft copy on WhatsApp; print it locally when convenient)
- Protection for your brand and creations: a logo or label name is registered as a trademark, an original design through the industrial designs process, and original prints or artwork may fall under copyright with the Nigerian Copyright Commission. Each is a separate federal process, and a CAC certificate does not stand in for any of them
- Shop, stall or studio arrangements: a lease, a market allocation, and any signage or business-premises levies charged by your local government or the state
- Tax obligations at federal and state level, including whatever applies to your size of business
- Staff-related obligations if you employ tailors or apprentices, such as pension, employee compensation and Industrial Training Fund requirements where thresholds apply
- Import clearance and duties through the Nigeria Customs Service if you bring in fabric, trimmings or machines yourself
- Vendor registration or tender paperwork that a school, church, company or government office may require before it buys your uniforms. Each buyer sets its own list
- Accreditation, if you plan to run a formal training school beyond informal apprenticeship; check with the relevant state education or skills body
- A business bank account, opened with your chosen bank once your certificate is in hand
- Annual returns in future years, a small separate step we can also help with when the time comes

Registering Fashion Businesses Across Plateau State
Price, requirements and turnaround do not change with location. Some names below are LGAs and some are towns inside them; wherever your shop or studio is, the process is the same.

If your shop or studio is anywhere in Plateau State, you are covered.
The Cutting Table Never Waits
Fashion work here is seasonal and personal. December brings Christmas orders, Sallah outfits arrive on their own deadline, wedding and traditional-attire commissions come in all year, and school resumption means a rush of uniforms. Clients expect the hem to be right, the fabric to match and the outfit ready before the occasion, and none of that waits while you work through a government portal. A registered name is a small thing to hand to someone else. Once it is done, your shop or label has a name that can sit on your receipts, your measurement cards, your social media page and your bank paperwork.
A Good Match If…
Different business owners want different things from an agent — this is who we serve best:
- You’d rather not work through CAC’s portal between fittings, cutting and a queue of festive-season orders — you want the paperwork finished while the sewing machines keep running.
- You’re aiming past one-by-one orders — perhaps uniforms for schools, churches or offices, a ready-to-wear line built on guodo or other native cloth, or a second shop in Bukuru or Pankshin, and you want a registered name to grow under.
- You want a recommendation that fits your size — not the biggest package by default.
- You’d rather not chase anyone — one message starts it, and the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.
If that sounds like you, send your business name and we’ll get started.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a fashion designer or tailor in Plateau State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same wherever in Plateau your shop or studio is. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What does the ₦35,500 cover? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, the government filing fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
Is a Business Name enough for a tailoring shop or fashion label? For most owner-run shops and small studios, yes. It gives you a legal name for receipts, orders and a bank account. A company becomes worth considering as the label grows or ownership is shared.
Can I register if I sew from home or from a market stall? Yes. CAC asks for a business address in Plateau State and the LGA it falls under, and a home or stall address can serve. Tell us the address you plan to use.
Should I register my brand name or my own name? Register the name you trade under. Send us your two preferred options, ranked, and we will check them.
What if my chosen name is not available? CAC typically turns down names that match or sit too close to one already on the register. Send a backup, or two, and we will check them right away.
How should I describe my business on the application? Simply. “Fashion design and tailoring” or “bridal wear and native attire” works well, and a broad description leaves room to add services later.
Can I register tailoring and fabric sales under one name? Yes. Describe the business broadly and one registration can cover both, though some activities may need their own approvals.
I train apprentices. Can I include that? You can mention training in the nature of business. Accreditation for a formal vocational school is a separate matter, so check the requirements with the relevant state body.
Does a CAC certificate protect my designs, prints or logo? No. It registers your business name. Trademarks, industrial designs and copyright each run through their own federal registries.
Do I need to be registered to show at Tin City Fashion Week or a similar event? We have not seen a published CAC requirement, and each organiser sets its own rules. A registered name does make it easier to deal with sponsors and buyers, so check the current requirements with the event team.
Will the certificate help me win school, church or office uniform orders? Many institutions ask for proof of registration before placing larger orders, so it is a useful document to hold. It does not guarantee any order, and some buyers also want their own vendor paperwork.
Does it help when buying fabric in bulk or importing? Wholesalers and suppliers often ask who they are dealing with, and a certificate answers that. Importing is a separate process handled through customs.
Can I register more than one shop under a single business name? One registration covers the business as a whole. Local permits and levies usually attach to each premises, so confirm what applies at every shop.
Two of us own the studio. What should we do? Tell us on WhatsApp how ownership is shared. A Limited Liability Company is often the cleaner structure for shared ownership, and we will say so plainly if a Business Name will do.
When does it make sense to start with a Limited Liability Company? If you are building a larger label, bringing in partners, or an investor requires a company, the company route is worth considering from day one.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many designers start with a Business Name and convert once the business grows, and we can assist with the conversion.
Do you register fashion businesses outside Jos? Yes. We cover all of Plateau State, from Wase and Dengi to Shendam, Langtang and Barkin Ladi, at the same price and turnaround.
How long does registration take? Usually 5–7 working days from when your details and payment are in.
How do I receive and print the certificate? We send a soft copy on WhatsApp, and you print it at any local business centre.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other details.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the ₦35,500.
Do I have to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses have annual returns to file. It is a small, separate step and we can help with it when the time comes.
Will any extra fee appear after I pay? No. The ₦35,500 covers CAC’s filing fee and ours together, with nothing added later.
