Jos has long been a place people come to for its cool air, its rock-studded hills and its reputation as a calm stopover, and the guest houses, lodges and hotels that host them need a registered name to trade under. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent, and we handle the filing for accommodation businesses throughout Plateau State: the name check, the application and the certificate. A Business Name registration costs ₦35,500, with CAC’s filing fee and our own service fee both included.
There’s no extra step hiding behind this: message us your business name, and we take it from there.

Jos’s Landmark Hotels Are Being Rebuilt
Plateau markets itself as the Home of Peace and Tourism, and the state government is putting visible effort into rebuilding the hospitality trade from its best-known addresses. A BusinessDay report of 19 July 2026 describes Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s inspection of the remodelling of the Plateau Hotel and the Hill Station Hotel, both in Jos. The Hill Station Hotel, a Wada Road landmark that dates back to 1938, had been shut for nearly eight years, and contractors for both hotels told the governor that the first phase of each was scheduled for delivery by 1 October 2026. The governor described the projects as public-private partnerships and said the state is courting private investors in order to rely less on public funding.
For an independent hotel, guest house or lodge owner on the Plateau, that is a market getting fresh attention, and fresh competition at the upper end. It is also a reminder that guests, event organisers and institutions increasingly look at who is behind a property before they book. A CAC registration is the first document that answers that question: it gives your accommodation a legal name that can appear on invoices, booking platforms and bank paperwork. It is not an operating approval, and the list further down sets out what needs separate attention.
Accommodation Businesses We Register in Plateau State
- Hotels in Jos, Bukuru and the larger towns — independent properties from a modest room count to a full-service building.
- Guest houses and lodges — owner-run places offering rooms and basic services to visiting families, officials and traders.
- Chalets and nature lodges — scenic stays near attractions such as Shere Hills, Assop Falls and Kurra Falls.
- Serviced apartments and shortlets — furnished apartments let for a night, a week or a season.
- Hotels with event centres and conference halls — properties that earn from weddings, workshops and church or school gatherings as well as rooms.
- Student and worker hostels — shared or private rooms near campuses, training institutions and workplaces.
- Motels and roadside lodges — simple rooms for travellers on the highways into Jos.
- Retreat centres and homestay hosts — small camps, mission guest houses and private homes taking paying guests.
Separate From This Registration
A CAC certificate gives your property a legal name and nothing more. These matters belong to other bodies, and you handle them separately.
- Printed copies of your certificate. We send a soft copy on WhatsApp, and you can print it at any business centre in Jos or your town.
- Any hotel or tourism registration required by the Plateau State Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Hospitality or the Plateau State Tourism Corporation. Ask them which requirements apply to your type of property.
- Federal tourism registration, where the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation requires it of hospitality businesses.
- Waste, drainage and sanitation arrangements for the premises, including whatever the Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency asks of operators.
- Land and building papers for the site, such as a Certificate of Occupancy, plus fire-safety and occupancy checks.
- Liquor, entertainment or food-service approvals if the property includes a bar, restaurant or event hall.
- The tax on hotel use and restaurant spending that the state’s revenue law places on guests’ bills, along with your other state and federal tax obligations. Confirm current rates and collection arrangements with the state.
- Opening a business bank account, which you do with your chosen bank once your certificate is in hand.
- Annual returns with CAC in later years, a small separate step we can help with when the time comes.
The Full Breakdown of Your ₦35,500
One payment of ₦35,500 settles each item below. CAC’s filing fee and our service fee are already counted inside it, so nothing is added afterwards. A Limited Liability Company is available at ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.
- Checking that your chosen business name is available
- Reserving the name once it is cleared
- Completing and submitting your CAC Business Name application
- The CAC government filing and processing fee
- Your Certificate of Registration in soft copy
- A Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- A CAC Status Report confirming your business as active on the public register
Business Name or Limited Liability Company for a Plateau Property
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Owner-run guest houses, small hotels, chalet and shortlet hosts | Larger hotels with event centres, and operators with partners or outside investors |
For an owner-operator running a modest guest house or a handful of chalets, a Business Name usually covers what you need: a legal name for bookings, invoices and a bank account at the lowest cost. A Limited Liability Company becomes the better fit when the property grows, ownership is shared, or an investor wants the business separated from your personal assets. Many owners begin with a Business Name and convert later.
Registering Accommodation Businesses Across Plateau State
The price, requirements and turnaround are the same wherever your property stands. Here is how our coverage breaks down.
Jos, Bukuru and the surrounding towns. Jos North, Jos South, Jos East, Bukuru, Vom, Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Bassa, covering the state capital, its busy commercial roads and the towns around it.
Central Plateau. Pankshin, Kanke, Mangu, Bokkos, Panyam and Kwolla.
Southern Plateau. Shendam, Mikang, Yelwa, Langtang North, Langtang South and Wase.
Other towns and development areas. Kanam, Dengi and Amper.
A lodge in a small town is registered exactly as a hotel in Jos would be. If your property is anywhere in Plateau State, it is covered.
What to Have on Hand
- Two proposed business names, ranked by preference
- A valid means of ID — National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s license
- A passport photograph
- Your business address in Plateau State, with the LGA
- A phone number and email address
- Nature of business, in simple words — for example “hotel, guest house and chalet accommodation”
- If you choose a Limited Liability Company instead: names, ID and details of the directors and shareholders
How We Get You Registered
- Check name availability on CAC’s public search portal — we do this on our end.
- Reserve the name once it is confirmed available.
- Complete the application with your business, owner and Plateau State address details.
- Upload your ID and passport photograph — a clear phone photo is fine.
- Pay the ₦35,500 filing fee, a single payment that covers everything above.
- Receive your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report, typically within 5–7 working days.
Beyond that first message and a single payment, there’s nothing left for you to chase up.

The Welcome Guests Remember
Guests on the Plateau tend to arrive tired from the road, and what they notice first is simple: a warm room on a cool night, a clerk who is still awake, light that stays on when the grid drops, a breakfast that comes out on time. Running a property means holding all of that together while bookings, supplies, laundry and staff rotas never stop. The registration does not need to be one more thing on that list. When it is finished, your property carries a registered name on its invoices, its booking listings and its bank paperwork, and you have spent none of your evenings on a portal.
A Good Match If…
Before you decide, here’s an honest look at who gets the most from our service:
- You’d rather be managing a full house during a Jos conference or festival weekend, or checking in a late arrival off the Abuja or Bauchi road, than learning CAC’s portal — the paperwork should finish without pulling you away from the front desk.
- You’re thinking of moving from letting rooms to hosting conferences, weddings and group bookings — and you want a registered name that institutions and event organisers can recognise.
- You prefer being told what you actually need — if the Business Name does the job today, we’ll leave the company route for when it’s worth it.
- You’d rather not chase anyone — one message starts it, and the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.
If that sounds like you, send your business name and we’ll get started.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a hotel or guest house in Plateau State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same wherever in Plateau State your property is. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What do I get for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, the government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
Is a Business Name enough for a guest house or small hotel? For most owner-run properties, yes. It gives you the legal name you need to start trading, issue invoices and open a bank account. Operating approvals from the state are a separate matter.
Does CAC registration replace any state hotel or tourism registration? No. Registration with the state ministry or tourism corporation, where it applies, is a separate step. CAC registration gives you the registered business name to apply under.
Do chalets, lodges and shortlets count as accommodation businesses? Yes. A chalet, nature lodge or shortlet can be registered the same way as a hotel. Describe the nature of business as accommodation, or list the property types you offer.
Can I register a hotel together with a restaurant or event hall? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly, such as “hotel, restaurant and event centre”. A bar, restaurant or event hall on the premises may need its own approvals.
Is the price different in Jos than in places like Wase or Langtang? No. The cost and turnaround are the same across every LGA in Plateau State.
I run paying guests out of a family home. Can I register? Yes. A homestay or small guest house is registered like any other accommodation business. You need an address in Plateau State and its LGA.
My property isn’t finished yet. Can I still register? You need a business address and LGA for the application. If you are still arranging the premises, send the address you plan to use.
Do I also need to register with the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation? It may apply to hospitality businesses and is handled separately from CAC. Check the current requirements for your type of property.
Does the registration cover the state tax on hotel and restaurant spending? No. That tax and your other tax obligations are separate from CAC registration, so confirm the current arrangements with the state revenue authorities.
Will a CAC certificate help with conference or group bookings? Companies, churches and organisations often ask for proof of registration before arranging group or recurring bookings, so the certificate is a useful document. It does not guarantee any booking.
Can I register more than one property under a single business name? One registration covers your business as a whole, and you can describe it broadly. Approvals tied to specific premises generally apply to each property, so check them for every location you run.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other details.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the ₦35,500.
Do I need to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses have annual returns to file. It is a small, separate step, and we can help with it when it falls due.
What if my proposed business name isn’t available? Send a backup name and we will check it straight away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many accommodation businesses begin with a Business Name and convert as the property grows or investors join. We can assist with the conversion.
When does it make sense to start with a Limited Liability Company? If you are building a larger hotel, sharing ownership with partners, or an investor requires a company structure, that route is worth considering from day one.
How will I receive my certificate? As a soft copy sent to you on WhatsApp. You can print it locally whenever you need a hard copy.
