CAC Business Name Registration for Music & Media in Yobe State

Yobe’s creative scene runs on people with a camera, a microphone or a mixing desk, and a following that grows by word of mouth: wedding videographers, musicians, radio producers, content creators. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent, and we register media and music businesses in all 17 local government areas of Yobe State, handling the name search, the filing and the certificate. Send your business name on WhatsApp and consider it handled — that’s genuinely the extent of what’s asked of you.

The Full Breakdown of Your ₦35,500

The ₦35,500 is a single all-inclusive payment, with CAC’s filing fee and our service fee both counted in it. Nothing arrives as a second bill. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.

Separate From This Registration

Registering a media or music business is not the same as being licensed to broadcast or distribute. These items are arranged separately:

Business Name or Limited Liability Company?

Business NameLimited Liability Company
All-inclusive cost₦35,500₦65,500
Personal liability protectionNoYes
Documents receivedCertificate + Status Report + TINCertificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN
Best forSolo artists, photographers, freelance producers, DJs and small studiosProduction companies, labels, media houses, and ventures with partners or outside investors

If you work on your own or with a small crew, a Business Name is usually enough. It gives you a legal name for invoices, rate cards, bookings and your bank account. A Limited Liability Company is worth considering when you run a production company or label with several owners, take on investors, sign large commissions or want the business to stand apart from your personal assets. Broadcasters typically operate as companies, so if a radio or television licence is on your plan, confirm the NBC’s requirements before you choose. Many owners begin with a Business Name and upgrade later, and we can assist with the conversion.

What to Have on Hand

  1. Two proposed business names, ranked by preference
  2. A valid means of ID — National ID (NIN), international passport, or driver’s license
  3. A passport photograph
  4. Your business address in Yobe State, with the LGA
  5. Phone number and email address
  6. Nature of business, described simply, e.g. “music production and entertainment” or “photography, video and media services”
  7. If you choose Limited Liability Company instead: names, ID and details of directors and shareholders

How We Get You Registered

  1. Check name availability on CAC’s public search portal — handled on our end.
  2. Reserve the name once availability is confirmed.
  3. Complete the application with your business, director and Yobe address details.
  4. Upload your ID and passport photograph — a phone photo is fine.
  5. Pay the ₦35,500 fee, one payment covering everything listed above.
  6. Receive your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report, usually within 5–7 working days.

From your side, that’s the entire process: one message, one payment, one certificate.

Yobe’s Airwaves and Screens: Who Regulates What

Yobe already has several broadcast outlets. The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria runs Sunshine FM in Potiskum and Wetland FM in Gashua, which began broadcasting on 29 December 2024. A digital community television station of the Nigerian Television Authority was also commissioned in Gashua, in Bade Local Government Area. The state has its own broadcaster as well, Yobe State Broadcasting Services, which appears among the state broadcasters on the National Broadcasting Commission’s licence lists. Radio and television in Nigeria operate under licences from the NBC, and the commission has revoked licences over unpaid fees, so anyone planning a station should plan for the licensing process from the start.

Film and music video fall under a different regulator. The National Film and Video Censors Board has said that film and video content, including skits and music videos, should be classified by the board before it is distributed or exhibited on any platform. The board has also clarified that its warnings are aimed at unlawful content rather than at ordinary posting, so confirm its current requirements for your kind of work. Neither licence is issued by CAC. Registering your business name first gives you the name to apply under, and the regulators then take the licensing and classification from there.

Your Craft Is the Content; the Registration Is Ours

A wedding shoot that starts at dawn, a track that must be mastered before Friday, an interview to cut for tomorrow’s programme: creative work runs on deadlines, and none of them move for paperwork. Registering the business name is a task you can hand over entirely. When it is done, the name on your invoices, your rate card, your channel page and your contracts is also the name on your certificate.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does CAC registration cost for a music or media business in Yobe State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, in any LGA. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.

What do I get for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, the government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.

Is a Business Name enough for a studio or production business? For a solo creator or small crew, a Business Name gives you the registered name you need to start. Licences and classifications are separate matters.

Does CAC registration give me a broadcasting licence? No. Radio and television licences come from the National Broadcasting Commission. CAC registration gives you the registered business name you apply under.

Can I start a radio station or an online radio? You can register the business with CAC. Whether your format needs an NBC licence depends on how you broadcast, so ask the commission before you launch.

Do my films and music videos need to be classified? The National Film and Video Censors Board’s position is that film and video content, including music videos, should be classified before distribution or exhibition. Confirm its current requirements for your work.

Can a musician or band register? Yes. Describe the nature of business as “music and entertainment”, or more specifically if you prefer.

Can a recording studio or a record label register? Yes. Describe the business as “music production”, “recording studio” or “record label”. A Limited Liability Company is worth considering if you have partners or investors.

Can an artist manager or booking agent register? Yes. Describe the business as “artist management and entertainment bookings”.

Can a photographer or videographer register? Yes. Describe the business as “photography and videography services”, or more broadly if you offer several things.

Can a content creator or podcaster register? Yes. Describe the business as “digital content creation” or “podcast production”.

Can a DJ, MC or sound-and-stage hire business register? Yes. Describe the business as “entertainment and sound hire services”. Permits for public events are separate.

Can I register an online news site or blog? Yes. Describe the business as “online media and publishing”.

Does CAC registration protect my songs or films? No. CAC registration protects your business name, not your creative works. Copyright matters are handled by the Nigerian Copyright Commission and collective management organisations such as COSON.

Can I register under my stage name or channel name? Yes, as long as the name is available. Send two or three options and we will check them on CAC’s public search portal.

Can I register a studio and a production company under one name? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly, such as “music production, video production and media services”.

I work from home or haven’t finalised a studio. Can I still register? You need a business address in Yobe State and its LGA for the application. A home address is fine if that is where the business is based, and if you are still looking for a studio, send the address you plan to use.

Do you register businesses outside Damaturu and Potiskum? Yes. We register businesses in all 17 LGAs, from Bade and Nguru to Gulani and Yusufari, at the same price and turnaround.

Will a CAC certificate help me win sponsors, brands or event bookings? Brands, sponsors and event organisers often ask for proof of registration before signing, so the certificate is a useful document to hold. It does not guarantee any booking or deal.

Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks request, along with your ID and other details.

Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the ₦35,500.

Do I need to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses file annual returns. It is a small, separate step and we can help with it when the time comes.

What if my proposed name isn’t available? Send a backup name and we will check it straight away. Two or three options ready from the start keeps things moving.
