Bags, rolls, bottles, buckets, basins, packaging film: much of what Lagos buys, carries and stores passes through the hands of someone in the plastics and polythene trade. Whether you run an extruder, supply resin, collect scrap for recycling or sell plastic ware from a market stall, a registered business name gives that work a proper footing. Onelove Business Ventures, an agency accredited by CAC, registers plastic and polythene businesses across Lagos State, from the first name check through to your certificate. Send your business name on WhatsApp and consider it handled — that’s genuinely the extent of what’s asked of you.

Business Name or Limited Liability Company?
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Traders, small workshops, recyclers and shop-based plastic businesses | Factories, importers, large distributors, and firms with partners or investors |
A trader, small workshop or one-person recycling outfit can usually manage on a Business Name for its invoices, supplier dealings and banking. A Limited Liability Company earns its higher price once you run machinery, hold large stock, import in volume or share ownership, since the company rather than you personally bears the obligations. Plenty of plastics businesses begin small and upgrade as they scale.
Lagos Has Banned Some Plastics, and Registration Does Not Settle Which
Few trades in Lagos have felt state regulation as directly as plastics. In January 2024 the state’s environment ministry announced a ban on styrofoam food packs and other single-use plastics, and after a grace period, full enforcement of the ban on single-use plastics under 40 microns began on 1 July 2025. The state has said that markets and stores found selling or storing banned items can be sealed and the goods confiscated, and a May 2026 report described the ministry confiscating around ₦5 million worth of banned styrofoam and single-use plastics from warehouses and malls.
The picture is not a blanket prohibition. The commissioner has stated that Lagos has not banned plastic production as a whole, that PET bottles, pure-water sachets and nylon carrier bags above 40 microns are outside the ban, and that producers of banned items may sell them outside the state. For a plastic or polythene business, that makes product range and thickness the key questions, and the lists can change, so check the ministry’s current position before you stock or produce.
CAC registration does not authorise any particular product. What it gives you is the legal business name that your invoices, supplier accounts and applications will carry. Register the name first, then review your product range against the ministry’s current rules.
Between the Extruder and the Stockroom
Plastic work runs to the rhythm of machines and deliveries. Rolls come off the line, bales of scrap arrive and need sorting, a stockist wants a delivery before the market opens, and a power cut at the wrong moment turns a good day into a catch-up week. Between counting stock, chasing customers who owe you and keeping the machines running, there’s rarely a calm hour to sit with a government portal. Registration is one job you can hand over completely. When it’s finished, your business trades under a registered name that can appear on invoices, quotations and supplier forms.

This Might Be a Great Fit If…
Not every registration service is the right match for every business owner, and that’s fine — here’s who tends to get the most out of working with us:
- You’re on the factory floor with the machines running, or in the stockroom counting rolls and bales — you can’t step away mid-shift to work through CAC’s portal.
- You’re moving from supplying a handful of shops toward bulk packaging for manufacturers, water and food producers and supermarkets, or from trading into recycling or your own production line — and you want a registered name behind that step.
- You value a straight answer over a sales pitch — if a Business Name is enough for where you are, we’ll tell you that, not upsell you into the LLC.
- You want one message to actually mean one message — no chasing documents back and forth, no surprise extra fees once you’ve paid.
If that sounds like how you like to do business, you’ll probably enjoy working with us.
Frequently Asked Questions
What will a Lagos plastic or polythene business pay to register? ₦35,500, all-inclusive, for a Business Name, whichever part of the state you operate in. The Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.
What does that ₦35,500 actually cover? The name check and reservation, the CAC application and its fee. You receive a soft copy of your Certificate of Registration, a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
Is a Business Name sufficient for a small plastics or polythene operation? Mostly, yes. Traders, small workshops and recyclers can put the registered name on invoices, supplier accounts and bank forms.
Can manufacturing, recycling and sales sit under one registration? Yes, by describing the business in general terms, for example “manufacture, recycling and sale of plastic and polythene products”. Some of those activities may need their own approvals.
Does the Lagos single-use plastics ban prevent me from registering? No. The ban concerns particular products, not whether a business name can be registered.
Does the certificate allow me to make or sell banned items? No. A CAC certificate authorises no product at all. What you may produce or stock depends on the environment ministry’s rules.
Which plastics does the Lagos ban cover? The state has banned styrofoam food packs and enforces a ban on single-use plastics under 40 microns thick. It has said PET bottles, pure-water sachets and thicker nylon carrier bags fall outside it. These lists can change, so confirm with the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.
I make polythene bags. Does thickness matter? It can. The state has tied enforcement to a 40-micron line, so check each product against the ministry’s current guidance.
Can a plastic recycling or scrap collection business register? Yes, as plastic recycling or waste plastic collection. Approvals for handling waste or meeting environmental standards come separately.
Do my products need SON certification? That isn’t part of CAC registration. SON operates separate schemes, and whether they reach you depends on what you make or import, so ask SON directly.
I import resin or finished plastic goods. Can I register? Yes, importing is an ordinary business activity. Customs and import paperwork are handled separately from CAC.
What address do I give if I work from a factory, shop or market stall? Whichever Lagos location the business runs from, plus its LGA. For a stall or shared space, tell us what you’d like on record and we’ll advise.
I haven’t secured premises. Does that hold me up? Not necessarily. We need an address and LGA in Lagos State to file, so tell us where you expect to be based.
Do Ikorodu, Apapa and Alimosho pay different amounts? No. Every Lagos location pays the same ₦35,500 and waits the same 5–7 working days.
How soon will the certificate arrive? Typically within 5–7 working days, as a soft copy on WhatsApp.
Can the certificate help me land orders from manufacturers, water producers or supermarkets? Bigger buyers frequently want to see that a supplier is registered, so it can strengthen your pitch. No order is guaranteed.
Will a bank accept it for a business account? It is usually among the first documents requested, though each bank has its own requirements.
Do I have to arrange a TIN myself? No. It’s issued with your registration, with nothing more to pay.
Is there a yearly obligation to CAC afterwards? Yes, annual returns. They aren’t covered by this price, though preparing them is something we can do when the time comes.
What if my favourite name is already on the register? Your second choice steps in. If neither clears, we’ll look for alternatives with you until one does.
May I use words like “Plastics”, “Polythene” or “Packaging” in my name? Usually, because they are common descriptive words. We test every name for availability, and CAC can refuse one that sits too close to an existing name.
Can I switch to a company later on? Yes. Many plastics firms register as a Business Name first and convert once machinery, stock or partners grow, and we can handle the change.
Who should start directly as a Limited Liability Company? Anyone setting up a factory, importing in volume, sharing ownership or expecting investors may prefer to skip the Business Name stage.
