CAC Business Name Registration for Restaurant in Osun State

A pot of amala and ewedu at lunchtime in Ede, jollof and small chops for a wedding in Osogbo, a canteen feeding students near Ile-Ife, a grill stand busy after dark in Iwo: food is one of the steadiest businesses in Osun, and the people behind it work harder than most. Putting that business under a registered name is a sensible first piece of paperwork. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We handle the name search, the filing and the certificate for you, wherever in Osun State you cook, so your time stays with the kitchen, the customers and the next order.

Osun’s Food Businesses, Hygiene Expectations and Why the Name Comes First

Food hygiene has been in the news in Osun. In July 2024, Governor Ademola Adeleke used the commissioning of health centres in the Iwo area to urge residents to avoid unhygienic food, as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control reported more than 1,500 suspected cholera cases across 107 local government areas in 31 states. For food businesses, that is the setting in which customers, inspectors and institutional buyers judge a kitchen.

Published compliance guides for Nigerian restaurant operators describe the usual expectations. Cooks and servers are expected to hold a food handler’s certificate from a State Ministry of Health or a recognised health facility, and NAFDAC publishes good hygiene guidelines and inspects eateries. Local governments, working with environmental health officers, are described as responsible for regulating street food vending and catering premises. Your CAC registration is a different step and does not replace any of these. It gives your business a registered name and identity, which is the name you operate under when you deal with inspectors, suppliers and banks. In practice, that makes the order simple: register the business name, then take up the health and hygiene requirements for your kitchen.

Business Name or Limited Liability Company for a Food Business?

Business NameLimited Liability Company
All-inclusive cost₦35,500₦65,500

What you receiveCertificate + Status Report + TINCertificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN
Usually suitsSingle-outlet restaurants, bukas, small caterers and snack businessesMulti-branch operators, institutional caterers, partners or outside investors

For one owner running one kitchen, a Business Name normally covers what you need: a name for receipts, supplier accounts and a bank account. A Limited Liability Company starts to make sense when you open several branches, take on school, hospital or corporate catering contracts, share ownership with partners, or bring in an investor, because the business then stands apart from your personal assets. Many food businesses begin with a Business Name and convert later.

What the ₦35,500 Takes Care Of

Your ₦35,500 is one payment. CAC’s filing fee and our service fee are both inside it, so nothing is added afterwards. A Limited Liability Company is also available at ₦65,500, all-inclusive.

Still on Your List After Registration

A CAC certificate gives your business a legal name. The following are handled separately:

Information We Need From You

We need two business names you would like, with your first choice listed first; a valid ID, which can be your National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s license; and a passport photograph, where a phone picture is fine. We also need your business address in Osun State with the LGA, a phone number and email address you check regularly, and a plain description of what you do, for example “restaurant and catering services” or “event catering and small chops”. If you choose a Limited Liability Company instead, we also need the names, ID and details of each director and shareholder.

How the Registration Unfolds

  1. Search: we check CAC’s public portal to confirm your chosen name is available.
  2. Reservation: we hold the name once it is confirmed.
  3. Application: we complete it with your business, owner and Osun address details.
  4. Documents: you send your ID and passport photograph and we upload them.
  5. Payment: you make the single ₦35,500 payment covering everything above.
  6. Certificate: your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report arrive, usually within 5–7 working days.

From your seat it stays short: a handful of details, a single payment, then wait for the certificate to arrive.

If your restaurant or catering kitchen is in the capital and central area, we register businesses in Osogbo, Olorunda, Olupona, Orolu, Oyan, Egbedore, Irepodun, Ilobu, Boripe and Odo Otin.

If you cook in the western trading towns, we cover Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Ola Oluwa, Isokan, Ikire, Apomu, Gbongan, Aiyedaade and Aiyedire.

If you are around Ile-Ife, Ilesa and the eastern towns, we register businesses in Ife Central, Ife East, Ife North, Ife South, Modakeke, Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Atakunmosa East, Atakunmosa West, Obokun, Oriade, Ijebu-Jesa and Oke Mesi.

If your business is anywhere in Osun State, we can register it.

The Lunch Rush Doesn’t Wait for Government Websites

A food business runs on a clock set by other people. There is the early market run for tomatoes, pepper and yams whose prices moved overnight, pots on the fire before the first customers arrive, a lunchtime queue that fills the room, and an event order for two hundred packs due by two o’clock. Gas, power, staff and credit customers all need attention along the way. Learning CAC’s portal does not fit into any of it. Registering your business name is a job we can take off your plate completely, so your kitchen already has a recognised name for supplier accounts, event contracts and the bank.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does CAC registration cost for a restaurant or catering business in Osun State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same in every Osun town. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.

What do I get for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC application, the government filing fee, your Certificate of Registration as a soft copy, a TIN and a CAC Status Report.

Is a Business Name enough for a restaurant, buka or catering service? For most owner-run kitchens and caterers, yes. It gives you a legal name for receipts, supplier accounts and a bank account. Health and hygiene requirements are separate.

Does CAC registration replace hygiene and food safety requirements? No. Food handler’s certificates, NAFDAC’s hygiene guidelines and local environmental health checks are separate. CAC registration gives you the registered business name to operate under.

Do I need a food handler’s certificate? Restaurant operators are generally expected to have one, usually from a State Ministry of Health or a recognised health facility. Check the current requirements for your area. This is separate from CAC.

Does NAFDAC registration apply to cooked food? NAFDAC registration applies to packaged food products, and its hygiene guidelines apply to eateries. Check with NAFDAC about your situation. It is not part of this service.

Can I register a restaurant and a catering service under one name? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly, for example “restaurant and event catering”.

I run a grill or street-food stand. Can I register? Yes. Street-food and grill vendors register the same way as restaurants, using the address they operate from.

I cook for delivery only. Can I register as a cloud kitchen? Yes. The application needs a business address in Osun State and its LGA, even if customers never visit.

Do I need a licence if I serve alcohol? Possibly. Liquor licensing is separate from CAC, so check what applies before you serve alcohol.

Will the certificate help me win school, office or event catering contracts? Schools, offices and event clients often ask for proof of registration before awarding catering work, so the certificate is a useful document to have. It does not guarantee any contract.

When does a Limited Liability Company make more sense? If you plan several branches, institutional catering contracts, shared ownership or an investor who wants a company structure, the company route is worth considering from the start.

Can one registration cover several outlets? One registration covers your business as a whole. Health and premises approvals generally attach to each outlet, so confirm what applies to every location.

My family members and I run the business together. Can we register? Tell us who the owners are. Shared ownership is a common reason to consider a Limited Liability Company, and we’ll tell you honestly which structure fits.

Do you register businesses outside Osogbo and Ile-Ife? Yes. We register food businesses across all of Osun State, from Ila Orangun and Ikirun to Iwo, Ilesa and Ikire, at the same price and turnaround.

I cook from home and haven’t leased a shop yet. Can I still register? The application needs a business address in Osun State and its LGA. Send the address you operate from or plan to use.

Is the TIN included? Yes. Your Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the ₦35,500.

Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other details.

What if my chosen name isn’t available? Send a second option and we will check it straight away. Two or three ready names keep things moving.

Do I have to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses must file annual returns. It is a small separate step, and we can help when it is due.

Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many food businesses start with a Business Name and convert as they grow or take on partners. We can assist with the conversion.

Does registering protect my restaurant’s name, logo or recipes? CAC will not register an identical name for another business. Protecting a logo or brand is a separate matter handled through the Trademarks Registry, and recipes are not covered by registration.

Can I register under a name like “Mama’s Kitchen”? Yes, as long as the name is available on CAC’s register. Send two options in order of preference and we’ll check them.

Do I register again for each event I cater? No. One CAC registration covers your business as a whole. Approvals for particular premises or events are handled separately.

Do VAT and other taxes apply to restaurants? Tax obligations are separate from CAC registration. Your TIN is the starting point, and you should check current requirements with the relevant tax authority.
