Sokoto’s workshops run on sparks, steel and repeat customers: gates and window guards for new houses, farm tools for the planting season, frames, tanks and trailers for traders, and yards where iron scrap is weighed, sorted and sold on. Whether you weld, forge, fabricate or deal in scrap, a registered business name puts all of that work under one legal identity. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent, and we take care of the name search, the filing and the certificate for owners anywhere in Sokoto State, from the capital to the outlying LGAs. One WhatsApp message with your business name is all it takes — we manage the rest.

Business Name or Limited Liability Company: Which Suits a Metal Workshop?
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Owner-run workshops, forges, mobile welders and small scrap buyers | Larger fabrication shops, scrap yards with partners, or outside investors |
For most owner-operated workshops, a Business Name does the job: it gives you a legal name for quotations, receipts and a bank account. A Limited Liability Company starts to make sense when you take on partners, put real money into machines and stock, or want the business kept legally apart from your own assets. Plenty of workshop owners register a Business Name first and convert to a company once the work outgrows it.

What Sokoto’s New Scrap Rules Mean for Metal Businesses
In January 2026, the Sokoto State Government approved a Scrap Dealing Monitoring Committee to regulate scrap dealing, scavenging and auto-recycling across the state, according to a news report on the approval. As reported, the committee’s terms of reference include regular inspection of record books, scrap markets, shops, stalls, loading docks, and scavenging and auto-recycling hubs, and checking that operators take practical steps against handling stolen or hazardous material. Its members include representatives of the state ministries of Environment, Justice, Works and Commerce, and of the police, the DSS and the Civil Defence Corps.
The same report describes a licensing section in the law: once it takes effect, nobody may run a scrap, salvage or auto-recycling business in the state without being registered and licensed by the ministry, licences are renewed every year, and they cannot be transferred to someone else. For a welder or metal worker, this matters most if you buy, store or resell scrap, or strip vehicles for parts. A shop that only fabricates gates and frames from steel bought from a supplier may be in a different position, and the ministry is the place to confirm which side of the line you are on. Your CAC registration is a separate step and does not replace that licence; it gives your business the legal name and identity to apply under. Rules like these can be amended, so check the current requirements with the relevant Sokoto State ministry before you begin trading scrap.

If your workshop or yard is anywhere in Sokoto State, you’re covered.
Your Hands Are Busy with Steel; Let Someone Else Handle the Forms
A metal business is judged on what people can see and carry away: a gate that hangs straight, a frame that fits the opening, a repaired trailer that holds its load. You spend your days in dry heat, behind a visor, waiting for the generator to settle and for a customer to come back for a door that was promised for today. Or you are at the yard, watching a truck of scrap get weighed and arguing over the rate. Registering the business name is one task that never needs your grinder or your scales. Once it is done, your quotations, receipts and bank paperwork all carry the same recognised name, and your attention goes back to the work.
Is This Right for Your Business?
We’re not the right fit for everyone, and we’d rather say so — here’s who usually benefits most from working with us:
- Your day is arc, grinder and tape measure — between a gate frame that has to be delivered and a load of scrap waiting to be weighed, you don’t have a spare hour for CAC’s portal.
- You’re growing from walk-in repairs toward bigger jobs — quoting for steel frames, grilles and roofing work for builders and contractors, or moving from small scrap runs to regular loads — and you’d like a registered name in place before that starts.
- You want a recommendation that fits your size — not the biggest package by default.
- You’d rather not chase anyone — one message starts it, and the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.
If this describes you, we’d be glad to take the paperwork off your hands.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a welding or metal works business in Sokoto State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same wherever in Sokoto State you operate. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What is included in the price? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, the government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
How long does it take? Usually 5–7 working days once your details and payment are in.
Will I get a printed certificate? The certificate comes as a soft copy on WhatsApp, and you print it locally whenever you need a hard copy.
Is a Business Name enough for a welding workshop? For most owner-run workshops, forges and mobile welders, yes. It gives you the legal name and registration to start trading, send quotations and open an account.
When does a Limited Liability Company make more sense, and can I upgrade later? It suits larger fabrication shops, businesses with partners, or anyone bringing in outside money, because the company stands apart from your personal assets. You can start with a Business Name and convert later, and we can assist with that.
Do I need anything extra to buy and sell iron scrap in Sokoto State? Possibly. According to a January 2026 report on the state’s scrap law, anyone operating a scrap, salvage or auto-recycling business needs registration and licensing from the state ministry. Confirm the current requirements and fees with the ministry before you trade scrap.
Does CAC registration replace the state scrap or salvage licence? No. CAC registration gives your business its legal name, and the state licence is a separate approval. Register the name first, then apply for the licence under it.
I’m a mobile welder with no fixed shop. Can I still register? Yes. The application needs an address in Sokoto State with its LGA, so send the address you operate from, and you can describe your business as mobile welding and fabrication.
Can I register more than one workshop or yard under one name? One registration covers your business as a whole. Approvals tied to premises, such as scrap licensing or market-space permits, may need to be confirmed for each location you run.
I’m a blacksmith, not a welder. Does the “welding” label matter? No. Describe the nature of business the way it really is, for example “blacksmithing, welding and metal fabrication.”
Can I register welding and iron-scrap trading together? Yes, the nature of business can be described broadly. The scrap side may need its own state licence, as covered above.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the ₦35,500.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for when opening a business account, alongside your ID and other details.
Will the certificate help when I quote for contractors or institutions? Builders, contractors and organisations often ask for proof of registration before awarding work, so the certificate is a useful document to hold. It does not guarantee any job.
What if my first-choice business name isn’t available? Send a backup name and we’ll check it right away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.
Do you register businesses outside Sokoto city? Yes. We register welders, blacksmiths and scrap dealers in all 23 LGAs of Sokoto State, at the same price and turnaround.
Do I have to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses have annual returns to file. It’s a small, separate step, and we can help with it when the time comes.
