From engine rebuilds and panel-beating to roadside recovery on the busy approaches into Port Harcourt, vehicle repair and towing in Rivers State is a trade where customers and fleet managers increasingly want to know who they are dealing with. A registered business name gives your garage or tow service that identity. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We take care of the name search, the filing and the certificate for mechanics, auto electricians, vulcanisers and tow operators across the state, so your hands can stay on the work.
A CAC Business Name costs ₦35,500, with CAC’s government fee and our own fee both included. If you would rather register as a company from the start, a Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.
One WhatsApp message with your business name is all it takes — we manage the rest.

A Crackdown on Roadside Work, and the Case for a Registered Workshop
Rivers State has repeatedly moved against roadside trading and roadside repair work in Port Harcourt. In one well-reported episode, the state government under then-governor Nyesom Wike ordered street traders, roadside mechanics and vulcanisers to leave the roads, and the vulcanisers’ association responded by downing tools, leaving motorists with flat tyres stranded. The state’s Road Traffic Management Authority, TIMA-RIV, was created under the Road Traffic Law No. 6 of 2009 to control traffic and clear obstructions from the highway, and the state has also run a taskforce on illegal motor parks that threatened to impound heavy trucks blocking roads. Towing has its own place in this picture, since the state has worked with the Federal Road Safety Corps and even supplied it with a towing van.
None of this makes CAC registration a legal requirement for a workshop or a tow business, and a registered name does not permit anyone to work on a roadside. What it does is show that your operation is a real business with a name and a base, which helps when you are negotiating for a workshop space, dealing with fleet clients, or explaining yourself to anyone who asks who is behind the garage. Policies and enforcement change, so confirm the current rules for your location with the relevant state and local authorities.
Workshops and Tow Services We Register in Rivers State
- Auto mechanics and garages — engine, gearbox, suspension and general servicing businesses, from a one-bay garage to a multi-bay workshop.
- Auto electricians and diagnostics — wiring, alternator, battery and scanner-based fault-finding businesses.
- Panel beaters and sprayers — body repair and paint shops.
- Vulcanisers and tyre shops — puncture repair, tyre fitting and wheel balancing.
- Car air-conditioning specialists — AC repair and regassing businesses.
- Towing and recovery operators — owners of tow trucks and flatbeds who handle breakdowns and accident recovery.
- Heavy-duty and truck repair — workshops serving trailers, tankers and commercial vehicles.
- Mobile mechanics and roadside assistance — operators who go to the customer instead of waiting for the vehicle to come in.
Separate From This Registration
Registration gives the business its legal name. It does not approve a workshop, a tow truck or a trading spot, and these items are handled separately:
- Printed copies of your certificate. You receive a soft copy on WhatsApp and can print it locally.
- Premises approvals and the lease or ownership papers for your workshop, along with any local rules about where vehicle repair may be carried out.
- Requirements from the state’s transport and traffic authorities, such as TIMA-RIV, that may apply to towing and recovery operations.
- Federal Road Safety Corps requirements that may apply to the roadworthiness and operation of tow vehicles.
- Registration, licensing and insurance for your own tow trucks and workshop vehicles, and cover for customers’ cars while they are in your care.
- Any trade or artisan certification you choose to hold, and dues or membership of your trade association.
- Environmental requirements for used oil, batteries, tyres, solvents and paint waste, and fire-safety arrangements for the workshop.
- Local government levies, market or premises dues, and the state and federal taxes that apply to your business.
- A business bank account, opened with your chosen bank once your certificate is in hand.
- Annual returns with CAC in later years, a small separate step we can also help with.
The Full Breakdown of Your ₦35,500
One payment of ₦35,500 covers the registration of your garage or towing business from start to finish. CAC’s fee and ours are inside it, so what you are quoted is what you pay.
- A search of CAC’s register to confirm your preferred name is free
- Reservation of the name once it clears
- Preparation and submission of your Business Name application to CAC
- The CAC government filing and processing fee
- Your Certificate of Registration in soft copy
- A Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- A CAC Status Report showing your business as active on the public register
Business Name or Limited Liability Company for a Workshop or Tow Service
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Suited to | Owner-run garages, vulcanising shops, auto electricians, single-truck tow operators | Large workshops, multi-truck recovery fleets, businesses with partners or outside funding |
| Think about it when | You work in your own shop and need a legal name to invoice and bank under | Several people share ownership, or fleet clients or lenders want a company on the contract |
A Business Name is usually enough for an owner-run workshop or a small tow operation. A Limited Liability Company starts to make sense when you have partners, a fleet of recovery vehicles, or large clients who expect to deal with a company.

A Breakdown Doesn’t Book an Appointment
A car fails on the East-West Road at dusk, a customer waits for a gearbox that must be ready by morning, a battery order arrives just as two jobs finish at once. Work in a garage or on the recovery truck comes in waves and rarely on schedule. You know engines, panels, tyres and tow rigs far better than any government portal. Registering the business name is something that can leave your to-do list entirely, and once it is done your workshop trades under a recognised name that can appear on job cards, invoices and supplier accounts.
You’ll Probably Like Working With Us If…
We’re not the right fit for everyone, and we’d rather say so — here’s who usually benefits most from working with us:
- You’re under a bonnet with a customer waiting, or out on a recovery call after dark — you’d rather the CAC paperwork was off your list than squeezed in between jobs.
- You’re aiming past the single garage — from one workshop to fleet maintenance for logistics and transport firms, a second location, or a tow truck and recovery service alongside your repair work, and you want a registered name to grow under.
- You want a recommendation that fits your size — not the biggest package by default.
- You want a process without back-and-forth — send your details once, pay once, and there are no surprise charges afterwards.
If that’s the kind of service you want, message us and we’ll begin.
Questions From Rivers Mechanics and Tow Operators
How much does CAC registration cost for a mechanic or towing business in Rivers State? ₦35,500, all-inclusive, for a Business Name, in every LGA. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.
What does the ₦35,500 include? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC application, the CAC government fee, your soft-copy Certificate of Registration, a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
I work from a roadside spot or a rented bay and don’t own a shop. Can I still register? Yes. You need a business address in Rivers State and its LGA, such as your home, your rented bay or your office. Registration does not give you permission to operate in any particular location, so check local rules for where you work.
Is a Business Name enough for a garage, or should I choose a Limited Liability Company? For most owner-run garages, vulcanising shops and small tow operations, a Business Name is enough to start. A Limited Liability Company is worth considering if you have partners, a fleet of recovery vehicles, or large clients who want to contract with a company.
Does the certificate allow me to operate a workshop or a tow truck? No. It gives your business a registered name. Premises approvals and any tow-vehicle or transport requirements come from the relevant authorities and are handled separately.
Do auto electricians, panel beaters and vulcanisers register the same way? Yes. The process, price and turnaround are identical for every vehicle trade. Describe the work you do in your own words on the application.
I’m a mobile mechanic with no fixed workshop. What address do I use? Use the address you can actually give, such as your home or office, and name its LGA. It is the business address on your registration.
Can I register a tow truck business? Yes. Towing and recovery businesses register as a Business Name like any other. Vehicle registration, insurance and any transport approvals for the truck are separate matters.
Can I put repair, towing and sales of parts under one name? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly, for example “auto repair, servicing, towing and sale of vehicle parts,” and one registration covers it.
Do you register businesses outside Port Harcourt? Yes. We register mechanics and tow operators across Rivers State, from Etche and Ahoada to Bonny, Okrika and Opobo, at the same price and turnaround.
Will the certificate help me win fleet or corporate customers? Companies and fleet managers often ask for proof of registration before giving regular work, so the certificate is a useful document to hold. It does not guarantee any contract.
Will it help me get supplier credit or equipment financing? Suppliers and lenders commonly ask for proof of registration, and the certificate, TIN and Status Report are the documents usually requested. Approval is always their decision, and nothing is guaranteed.
Do I need a separate registration for a second workshop? One registration covers your business as a whole. Premises-level approvals generally attach to each location, so confirm what applies to every workshop you open.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other details.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the ₦35,500.
Do I need to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses file annual returns. It is a small, separate step, and we can help with it when the time comes.
What if my first-choice business name is taken? Send a second name and we’ll check it right away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many garages and tow businesses start with a Business Name and convert as they grow or take on partners. We can assist with the conversion.
Can several mechanics register one business together? Yes. A Business Name can be registered by partners, and you would need each partner’s details. If the group is large or outside money is coming in, a Limited Liability Company may suit you better.
When would a Limited Liability Company make sense from day one? If you are building a large workshop or a recovery fleet, sharing ownership, or targeting fleet and corporate contracts that expect a company, the LLC route is worth considering from the start.
