Bread, buns, meat pies, birthday cakes and chin-chin are bought every day in Taraba State, from busy streets in Jalingo to market towns across the state, and a bakery that trades under a registered name has something firm to put on its invoices, supplier accounts and regulatory paperwork. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We do the name search, the filing and the certificate for bakeries, cake makers and confectioners in every local government area of Taraba State. A single WhatsApp message carrying your business name is the whole opening move; we carry the registration from there.

Baking in Taraba: Why the Registered Name Comes First
For a bakery, the registered name is the first of several approvals, and the one the others are built on. NAFDAC’s published guidelines for bread manufacturing explain how it lists a bakery. You apply on the company’s letterhead, an inspection is scheduled once the application has been vetted, the master baker must be present on the day, and a registration (listing) number is issued after the documents, the inspection report and the laboratory report are satisfactory. The same guidelines say bread must not contain potassium bromate or saccharin and must be packaged and labelled before it is sold. A bakery with several outlets can share one registration number per bread variant, but each outlet still needs its own inspection and listing approval.
Taraba has a NAFDAC State Office, which has run post-marketing surveillance in places such as Gembu in Sardauna, and in neighbouring states the agency has acted against bakeries: it shut eight in Bauchi in 2023, some of them unregistered, and sealed many unregistered bakeries in Plateau in 2024. None of this turns a CAC certificate into a NAFDAC listing, and a NAFDAC listing does not replace CAC registration. The two sit side by side, and the order is simple: register the business name first, then take your premises and products through NAFDAC.

- Baking schools and training classes: teaching bread, cake and pastry skills.
Separate From This Registration
A bakery answers to more than one office, and none of these are part of your CAC filing:
- Printed copies of your certificate. Documents arrive as soft copies on WhatsApp, and you can print them locally.
- NAFDAC inspection and listing for your bakery and bread, which follows NAFDAC’s own application, inspection and laboratory steps and is handled outlet by outlet.
- NAFDAC registration for other packaged products, such as biscuits, packed snacks or sweets. What applies depends on the product and how you sell it, so ask your nearest NAFDAC office.
- Trademark registration for your brand name. NAFDAC’s bread guidelines refer to it, and it is a separate process from a CAC business name.
- Health and food-premises requirements from the state or your local government where they apply, including medical fitness checks for staff who handle food.
- Safety approvals for ovens, gas and electrical installations, where applicable to your premises.
- Tax obligations, including VAT where applicable and PAYE if you employ staff.
- Opening a business bank account, done with your chosen bank once your certificate is in hand.
- Annual returns to CAC in later years, a small, separate step we can help with when it falls due.
The Full Breakdown of Your ₦35,500
One payment of ₦35,500 settles CAC’s filing fee and our service fee together, and nothing is added afterwards. If you would rather start as a company, that route is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.
- We search CAC’s register to confirm your chosen name is free
- We reserve the name once it clears
- We fill in and submit your Business Name application
- CAC’s own filing fee, already paid in
- Your Certificate of Registration, as a soft copy
- Your Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- A CAC Status Report showing your business as active on the public register
Business Name or Limited Liability Company for a Bakery?
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Home bbakers, cake makers and single-shop bakeries | Production bakeries with partners, investors or larger supply arrangements |
If you bake from home, run one shop or sell cakes to a loyal circle of customers, a Business Name is usually enough, and it is the cheaper way to get a registered name. A company starts to make sense once you add a partner, bring in an investor, move into a bigger production unit with staff and equipment, or want your personal assets kept apart from the bakery. Some larger buyers may also prefer to deal with a company, so it is worth asking the schools, hotels or shops you hope to supply what they require. You can begin with a Business Name and upgrade later.
Registering Bakeries and Confectioners in Every Taraba LGA
Price, requirements and turnaround stay the same wherever your bakery is. If it has a Taraba State address, we can register it:
- Jalingo: the state capital, with Taraba State University, government offices and large markets close by
- Wukari: a university town, home to Federal University Wukari
- Bali: includes Suntai, where Taraba State Polytechnic is based
- Sardauna: Gembu and the Mambilla Plateau
- Ibi: a river town on the Benue
- Gassol: the local government area with its headquarters at Mutum Biyu
- Takum: a town in the south of the state
- Ardo Kola, Donga, Gashaka, Karim Lamido, Kurmi, Lau, Ussa, Yorro and Zing: neighbourhood bakeries, home bakers and confectioners serving their local markets
What to Have on Hand
Gather these and the application can start without delay:
- Two business names you like, ranked by preference
- One valid form of ID: National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s licence
- A passport photograph, and a clear phone photo is fine
- Your bakery’s address in Taraba State, with the local government area
- A phone number and an email address
- A plain description of what you make, such as “bakery and confectionery products” or “bread, cake and pastry production”
- For a Limited Liability Company only: the names, ID and details of each director and shareholder
How We Get You Registered
- We search CAC’s public portal to see whether your first-choice name is free.
- We reserve the name as soon as it is confirmed.
- We prepare the application with your business details and Taraba State address.
- You send your ID and passport photograph on WhatsApp, and we add them to the file.
- You make one payment of ₦35,500, covering everything in the breakdown above.
- Your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report reach you as soft copies on WhatsApp, usually within 5–7 working days.
Your part ends with the details and one payment; the filing, the chasing and the delivery are ours.

Your Day Starts at the Oven, Not at the Computer
You are up while most of the town is asleep: ovens heating, dough proving, trays loaded for the shops before the first customers arrive. By the time the last batch has cooled and the day’s sales are counted, a government form is the last job anyone wants. That is the job we take. Your bakery’s name then appears on the supply invoice, the bank form and the letterhead for any regulatory application, while you stay where the work is.
Is This Right for Your Business?
We’re not the right fit for everyone, and we’d rather say so — here’s who usually benefits most from working with us:
- Your mornings begin before dawn at the oven, and the rest of the day goes to deliveries, restocking flour and sugar and a queue at the counter, so there is no gap in which to work through CAC’s portal.
- You’re thinking beyond walk-in sales: toward supplying schools, hotels, shops and event planners in your area, or opening a second outlet, and you want a registered name behind your quotations and invoices.
- You prefer being told what you actually need — if the Business Name does the job today, we’ll leave the company route for when it’s worth it.
- You want things kept simple — your details, one payment, your certificate.
If this describes you, we’d be glad to take the paperwork off your hands.
Questions Bakers and Confectioners in Taraba State Ask
How much does CAC registration cost for a bakery in Taraba State? A Business Name is ₦35,500 all-inclusive and a Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive, the same in every local government area.
What do I get for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC application, CAC’s government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), your TIN and a CAC Status Report.
How long does it take, and how will my documents reach me? Usually 5–7 working days, and they come to you as soft copies on WhatsApp for you to print locally.
Is a Business Name enough for a home baker or a small bakery? For most owner-run bakeries, yes. It gives you a registered name for invoices, orders and a bank account. A company becomes worth considering with partners, investors or a larger production unit.
I bake from home and sell through WhatsApp or Instagram. Can I register? Yes. Home-based and online bakers are registered the same way, and the application needs a Taraba State address and its LGA, nothing more.
Does CAC registration replace NAFDAC registration? No. NAFDAC lists bakeries and bread through its own application, inspection and laboratory process, and the master baker has to be present at the inspection. CAC registration gives you the registered business name, and NAFDAC is a separate step.
Do cake makers and confectioners need NAFDAC as well? Packaged food products are generally covered by NAFDAC’s registration rules, and what applies depends on what you make and how you sell it. Ask your nearest NAFDAC office about each product.
Can I list bread, cakes and sweets under one business name? Yes. Describe the business broadly, for example “bakery and confectionery products,” so the name covers everything you make.
Can I register a bakery and a small café under the same name? Yes. A café or eatery on the same premises may carry its own food-premises requirements, so check what applies to the seating area.
I have more than one outlet. Do I register each one? One CAC registration covers your business as a whole. Premises-level approvals work differently, and NAFDAC’s guidelines call for inspection and listing approval for each outlet.
What if my bakery name isn’t available? Send a backup and we’ll check it straight away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.
Does registering a business name give me a trademark? No. A CAC business name and a trademark are separate things, and trademarks are registered separately.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. Banks commonly ask for your CAC certificate, along with your ID and other details, when opening a business account.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number comes with the ₦35,500.
Do I have to file anything with CAC after the first year? Registered businesses owe annual returns. It is a small, separate step, and we can help when it falls due.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes, and many bakeries do once they grow. We can assist with the conversion.
When does it make sense to start with a Limited Liability Company? If you are setting up with partners, an investor expects a company, you want personal liability protection from the first day, or you plan a larger production bakery with supply arrangements.
Will the certificate help me supply schools, hotels or supermarkets? Buyers often want to see a registered business before placing regular orders, so it is a useful document to hold. It does not guarantee any order, and each buyer sets its own requirements.
Do you register bakeries outside Jalingo? Yes. We register bakeries and confectioners in all 16 local government areas of Taraba State, at the same price and turnaround.
