Taraba’s Digital Push, and One Rule Every Cyber Café Owner Should Know
Taraba now has its own Ministry of Digital Economy and Innovation, and the state has worked with outside partners on technology training in Jalingo. In 2024, the Algorand Foundation ran a programme there on blockchain and software development, and state officials said at the time that three federally funded ICT centres were planned across the state’s senatorial districts. The federal government has also been reported as considering a Technology Innovation Hub for Taraba. Plans like these can change, but they point the same way: more young people in the state are learning to build, repair and sell digital services, and more of them will need a registered business behind their work.
For one part of the sector, registration is not just good practice. Section 7 of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015 requires cyber café operators to hold a business name registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission and to register as a business concern with the Computer Professionals’ Registration Council. The same section requires them to keep a sign-in register of users that law enforcement can ask to see. The CAC registration is the part we handle. The Council registration and the user register are yours to arrange separately.

What Falls Outside This Registration
CAC registration gives your business its legal name. Technology businesses also meet regulators and obligations that don’t come with this service, and they depend on what you actually do:
- Printed copies of your certificate (you get a soft copy and can print it locally whenever you like)
- Registration with the Computer Professionals’ Registration Council, which is required for cyber café operators under the Cybercrimes Act. Other IT businesses and practitioners should confirm what applies to them
- The sign-in register of users and other premises arrangements for a cyber café
- The Startup Label from NITDA’s startup portal, if you want it. Most summaries of the Nigeria Startup Act say the label is for registered companies, so a Business Name may not qualify
- Any NITDA guidelines that apply to IT services, especially if you plan to work on government IT projects
- Obligations under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 if your business collects or handles personal data, including registration with the data protection regulator where it applies
- Licensing from the Nigerian Communications Commission if you plan to run an internet service, VoIP or other telecom service
- Approvals from the Central Bank of Nigeria if your software processes payments or provides financial services
- Trademark, copyright and other protection for your brand, software and designs
- Shop, premises or local council requirements if you operate from a physical location
- State and federal tax obligations for service businesses
- A business bank account, which you open with your chosen bank once your certificate is in hand
- Annual returns in future years, a small separate step we can handle for you later
What Your ₦35,500 Covers
Everything below comes under one payment, which already includes CAC’s filing fee and our own fee. Nothing gets added later. If you want to start as a company, the Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.
- Checking that your chosen business name is available
- Reserving that name for you
- Completing and submitting your CAC Business Name application
- CAC’s government filing/processing fee
- A soft copy of your Certificate of Registration
- Your Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- A CAC Status Report confirming that your business is active on the public register
Business Name vs. Limited Liability Company
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Freelancers, solo developers, small agencies, IT support shops and cyber cafés | Software and product companies, funded startups, and teams with co-founders or investors |
For an individual or small team doing client work, a Business Name is usually enough to start. It gives you a legal name for invoices, proposals and a business account. A Limited Liability Company becomes the better choice when you’re building a product, bringing in co-founders or investors, or aiming for the Nigeria Startup Act’s label, which most sources describe as open to registered companies. Many tech businesses begin with a Business Name and upgrade when they need to.
Registering IT and Digital Businesses Across Taraba State
You pay the same price and follow the same steps in any LGA. The registration is done online, so your location in the state doesn’t change the process.
Jalingo and the main commercial towns
- Jalingo, Wukari, Takum, Bali and Ibi — developers, IT shops, cyber cafés and digital agencies in the state’s busier towns
Mid-sized and smaller LGAs
- Gassol, Karim Lamido, Lau, Yorro, Zing, Ardo Kola, Donga and Ussa — support businesses, training centres and remote workers serving customers close to home or online
The Mambilla Plateau
- Sardauna, Gashaka and Kurmi — digital freelancers and small businesses on the plateau, where a registered online presence can reach customers well beyond the highlands
Documents to Have Ready
- Two business names, in the order you prefer them
- A valid form of ID — National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s licence
- A passport photograph
- Your business address in Taraba State, with its LGA (a home or shared office address is fine if that is where you work)
- A phone number and an email address
- A plain description of the business, for example “software development and IT support services” or “web design and digital marketing”
- If you choose a Limited Liability Company: the names, ID and details of each director and shareholder
The Registration Timeline
- We run a search on CAC’s public portal to confirm your name is free.
- We reserve the name the moment it is confirmed.
- We prepare the application with your business, owner and Taraba address details.
- You upload your ID and passport photograph — a phone photo works.
- You pay ₦35,500, one payment covering everything described above.
- Your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report reach you, typically within 5–7 working days.
Beyond that first message and a single payment, there’s nothing left for you to chase up.

You Build the Product. We’ll Sort Out the Paperwork.
Tech work rarely follows office hours: a client’s site goes down on a weekend, a deployment drags on past midnight, a network needs recabling before Monday, and a revision request lands just as you finish the last one. Add power cuts, data costs and a queue of clients waiting on replies, and CAC’s portal is the last thing you want to learn this week. That’s the one task we can take over completely. When we’re done, your business has a registered name for its proposals, invoices and website footer, and a certificate you can show a client or a bank without explaining yourself.
You’ll Probably Like Working With Us If…
We’re not the right fit for everyone, and we’d rather say so — here’s who usually benefits most from working with us:
- You’re in the middle of a deployment, fixing a client’s network or racing a project deadline — and you’d rather not lose an afternoon to CAC’s portal.
- You’re planning to grow from freelancing into an agency or product company — with bigger clients such as schools, businesses and organisations, or your own app or platform — and you want a registered name to build under.
- You want a recommendation that fits your size — not the biggest package by default.
- You’d rather not chase anyone — one message starts it, and the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.
If that sounds like you, send your business name and we’ll get started.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for an IT or software business in Taraba State? A Business Name is ₦35,500 all-inclusive, whichever LGA you are in. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What do I receive for the ₦35,500? We search for and reserve your name, complete and file the CAC application and pay the government fee. You receive your Certificate of Registration as a soft copy, a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
Is a Business Name enough for a freelance developer or small IT business? For most solo operators and small teams, yes. It gives you the legal name and registration you need to invoice clients and open a business account. Moving to a company makes sense later if you add partners or investors.
Do I need a Limited Liability Company to get the Nigeria Startup Act label? Most descriptions of the Act say the label is for companies registered with CAC, so a Business Name may not qualify. If the label matters to you, think about starting as a Limited Liability Company, and check the current rules on the startup portal.
I run a cyber café. Does this registration satisfy the law? It covers the CAC business name registration that the Cybercrimes Act requires of cyber café operators. The Act also requires registration with the Computer Professionals’ Registration Council and a sign-in register of users, which are separate from this service.
Do other IT businesses need to register with the Computer Professionals’ Registration Council? That Council registers computing practitioners and firms, and cyber cafés must register under the Cybercrimes Act. Other kinds of IT business should confirm directly what applies to them.
I work remotely for clients outside Nigeria. Can I register? Yes. A registered Business Name gives you a legal identity for contracts, invoices and a business bank account. How you receive foreign payments is a matter between you and your bank.
Can one registration cover web design, software and IT support together? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly and it can cover all of them. Some activities, such as telecom services or payment processing, carry their own approvals.
I work from home. Which address do I use? Use the address where the business operates, with its LGA, whether that is a home, a shared office or a shop. If you’re still arranging premises, send us the one you plan to use.
Do you register businesses outside Jalingo? Yes. We handle all 16 LGAs, from Wukari and Takum to Zing and the Mambilla Plateau, at the same price and with the same turnaround.
Will the certificate help me win clients or tenders? Clients and organisations often ask for proof of registration before they commit to a contract, so having the certificate helps. It doesn’t guarantee any contract, and public procurement has its own requirements.
Does CAC registration cover data protection compliance? No. If your business collects or processes personal data, the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 may apply to you separately, including registration with the data protection regulator in some cases.
Does registering my business protect my software, brand or designs? No. A business name registration gives you a registered name. Trademarks and copyright are handled separately through their own registries and processes.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, together with your ID and other account details. Payment platforms and other financial services often ask for it too.
Is the TIN included? Yes. Your Tax Identification Number is part of the ₦35,500.
Do I file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses file annual returns. It’s a small, separate step and we can help when the time comes.
What if my first name choice is taken? Send a backup and we’ll check it right away. Having a few options ready saves time.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many tech businesses start with a Business Name and convert once the team grows or an investor comes in. We can help with the conversion.
When should I begin with a Limited Liability Company? If you’re building a product, working with co-founders, seeking investment or aiming for the Startup Label, a Limited Liability Company is worth considering from day one.
