Hausa Baking, Local Snacks and the Flour Question
Baking in Zamfara covers more than loaves. Local flatbread, fried snacks and groundnut sweets sit beside bread and cakes, and several public programmes have pointed people towards food trades. A National Directorate of Employment apprenticeship round reported by Blueprint trained 280 young people in Zamfara, 20 from each of the 14 LGAs, in trades that included confectioneries, hairdressing, tailoring and barbing. Separately, the International Organization for Migration gave start-up kits to more than 90 women in Gusau and Bungudu, and the items included sacks of groundnuts for kulikuli production, according to a Leadership report. Neither programme requires registration, and registration does not qualify anyone for them, but people who turn these skills into a business often find that they need a name, a bank account and proof of registration.
The cost of flour is the pressure every baker shares. Nigerian bakers reported steep rises in flour prices through 2023 and 2024, one Lagos bakery manager citing a bag moving from about ₦32,000 to about ₦62,000 in a year, and in neighbouring Kano, women who make local bread (gurasa) protested the cost of flour. These reports are from other places and earlier years, so check what your own supplier charges today. We did not find a Zamfara-specific bakery rule; if you sell packaged food, NAFDAC’s requirements apply, and your LGA office can say what it expects for your premises.

What’s Not Usually Included
CAC registration gives your business a legal name. The items below come from other bodies and are arranged separately:
- Printed copies of your certificate. You receive a soft copy and print it locally.
- NAFDAC requirements for packaged foods, including registration of products you sell under your brand, and any inspection of your production premises.
- Labelling of products, such as ingredient lists and dates, which is covered by NAFDAC rules rather than by your CAC certificate.
- Medical fitness or hygiene checks for people who handle food, as local health authorities require.
- Any permit your local government expects for a bakery, shop or stall. We found no Zamfara-specific bakery licence, so ask your LGA office.
- Fire and gas safety for ovens, gas cylinders and fryers.
- Environmental and waste requirements for commercial premises.
- Tax obligations that apply to food and baking businesses, at state and federal level.
- Opening a business bank account, done with your chosen bank once your certificate is ready.
- Annual returns in later years, a small, separate step we can also handle for you.
What’s Included in the ₦35,500
You make one payment of ₦35,500, and it covers each of the following for your Zamfara bakery or confectionery business:
- A check on whether your chosen business name is available
- Reservation of the name once it is cleared
- Completion and submission of your CAC Business Name application
- CAC’s government filing and processing fee
- Your Certificate of Registration (soft copy)
- Your Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- A CAC Status Report showing that your business is active on the public register
If you would rather register as a company, the same ground is covered at ₦65,500 all-inclusive, with a Memart added to the documents you receive.
Business Name or Limited Liability Company?
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Home bakers, single-shop bakeries, cake makers and snack sellers | Larger bakeries, multi-outlet operations and firms with partners or investors |
A single bakery, a home baker or a cake maker can usually start with a Business Name, which gives you a legal name for orders, invoices and a bank account. A Limited Liability Company becomes worth considering when you open more outlets, buy industrial equipment with partners, supply institutions that expect a company, or want the business kept apart from your personal assets.

You Know the Dough; We Handle the Paperwork
Your day starts before most people are awake: flour to weigh, dough to knead, ovens to light, trays to fill, orders to box and hand over while the bread is still warm. By the time the last customer leaves, there is little energy left for a registration portal. Letting someone else handle that step means your bakery can get a registered name without a single batch being delayed. After it is done, your name can go on order forms, receipts, delivery notes and packaging, and you have a certificate ready for any buyer who asks.
Who This Service Suits Best
Different business owners want different things from an agent — this is who we serve best:
- You’d rather not work out CAC’s portal at 4 a.m. with the oven loaded, between dough batches, or while the day’s orders are being boxed for delivery — you want the registration done while the bakes keep coming.
- You’re aiming to move from selling at the shop door to supplying shops, schools, event planners or institutional buyers who ask for a registered name before they order.
- You value a straight answer over a sales pitch — if a Business Name is enough for where you are, we’ll tell you that, not upsell you into the LLC.
- You want a process without back-and-forth — send your details once, pay once, and there are no surprise charges afterwards.
If that sounds like how you like to do business, you’ll probably enjoy working with us.
