Fertiliser, Agrochemicals and the Value of a Traceable Dealer
Buyers of farm chemicals in Zamfara have reason to be careful. In July 2020, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the state raided a fake fertiliser blending plant in Gusau, arrested two suspected owners and recovered 76 bags of sealed fertiliser along with unprocessed sacks of fake fertiliser. The commandant urged farmers to learn the brands and to deal directly with accredited companies or sales outlets. Elsewhere in the north, NAFDAC’s director-general has called for mandatory listing of agrochemical dealers to curb fake and substandard products, and in neighbouring Niger State officials found hawkers with no fixed addresses selling fake and expired agrochemicals to farmers. A July 2026 headline also reported that the governor distributed 72,000 bags of free fertiliser and inputs to Zamfara farmers, a sign of how much fertiliser moves through the state.
For a legitimate dealer, the lesson is that a fixed address, a registered name and proper labels set you apart from the hawkers. NAFDAC also treats some chemicals as strictly controlled items that individuals should not hold, and urges businesses to follow its guidelines on handling them. We did not find a published Zamfara-specific dealer register, so ask NAFDAC’s office what listing or approval applies to your products. CAC registration does not approve your chemicals; it gives your business a registered name that farmers, schools and companies can verify.
Separate From This Registration
- Printed copies of your certificate (you receive a soft copy and can print it locally whenever you like)
- NAFDAC registration, listing or approval for your products and premises, including agrochemicals, which are handled through NAFDAC’s own channels
- Permits for controlled or restricted chemicals from the relevant authorities, such as NAFDAC or the NDLEA, where a substance is regulated
- Safe storage, fire-safety and spill-handling arrangements for your premises
- Licensing and safety requirements for transporting hazardous goods
- Environmental requirements for waste, containers and effluent
- Staff training and protective equipment for people handling chemicals
- Premises approvals, local-government permits and any market fees
- State and federal tax obligations that apply to your business (your TIN is included, but filing is separate)
- Business bank account opening, which you do with your chosen bank once the certificate is in hand
- Annual returns in later years — a small, separate step we can help with when the time comes
Business Name or Limited Liability Company for a Chemicals Business?
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| Price (all-inclusive) | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Protects personal assets? | No | Yes |
| What you receive | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Typically suits | Single chemical shops, agrochemical and fertiliser dealers, small producers | Larger distributors and blenders, and owners with partners or investors |
A Business Name is usually enough when you run a shop or small production unit under your own name and need a registered name for invoices, supplier accounts and a bank account. A Limited Liability Company becomes worth considering when you expand into distribution, share ownership, or bring in investors, since the business then stands apart from your personal assets. In a trade that handles hazardous products, that separation can matter. Many owners start with a Business Name and upgrade later.

Behind the Counter, in Front of the Customer
A chemicals counter depends on trust: the right product for the job, the label in order, the expiry date checked, the container properly stored, and an honest answer when a customer asks how much to use. Farmers, school staff and shopkeepers rarely have the time to tell a genuine product from a fake, so they depend on the dealer’s reputation. Registering the business name is one job you can hand over completely. Once it is done, your business trades under a recognised name on receipts, supplier invoices and bank paperwork.
You’ll Probably Like Working With Us If…
Different business owners want different things from an agent — this is who we serve best:
- Your days go to receiving stock, checking labels and expiry dates, and answering customers who want the right product — not to learning CAC’s portal.
- You want to be a dealer buyers can trace — one that farmers, schools and companies can call back, and one that can supply organisations that ask for proof of registration.
- You value a straight answer over a sales pitch — if a Business Name is enough for where you are, we’ll tell you that, not upsell you into the LLC.
- You want things kept simple — your details, one payment, your certificate.
If that’s the kind of service you want, message us and we’ll begin.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a chemicals business in Zamfara State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What do I get for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, the government fee, your Certificate of Registration as a soft copy, a TIN and a CAC Status Report. Nothing is charged after the payment.
How long does registration take? Usually 5–7 working days once your details and payment are in.
Is the price the same in every LGA? Yes. The price, documents and turnaround are identical anywhere in Zamfara State.
Is a Business Name enough for a chemicals business? For most owner-run shops and small production units, yes. It gives you the registered name you need to start. NAFDAC, safety and premises matters are separate.
When does a Limited Liability Company make more sense? If you are building a larger distribution or blending business, sharing ownership with partners, or an investor or large client wants a company structure, the LLC route is worth considering from day one.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many owners start with a Business Name and convert as the business grows. We can assist with the conversion.
Can I register an agrochemical dealership? Yes. It is registered under the same Business Name price. NAFDAC requirements for agrochemicals are separate.
Can I register a fertiliser dealership or blending business? Yes. Describe the activity in the nature of business. Product and quality requirements are separate.
Can I register a soap, detergent or disinfectant business? Yes. Small makers and sellers of cleaning and hygiene products register the same way. NAFDAC requirements for your products are separate.
Can I register a water-treatment chemicals supplier? Yes. Suppliers register the same way. Handling and safety requirements are separate.
Can I register a laboratory or school chemicals supplier? Yes. Suppliers of basic laboratory chemicals can be registered at the same price.
Can I register a paints and coatings business? Yes. Makers and dealers of paints and coatings register the same way.
Can industrial chemical distributors register? Yes. A business that supplies general chemicals to other businesses can be registered under the same Business Name price.
Can I register a general chemical shop? Yes. Retail shops selling household and general chemicals register the same way.
Do I need NAFDAC approval? It can apply to chemicals, agrochemicals and other regulated products, and it is a separate step handled by NAFDAC. We do not do it for you, so ask NAFDAC what applies to your products and premises.
Is there a dealer register for agrochemicals? NAFDAC’s director-general has called for mandatory listing of agrochemical dealers. We found no published Zamfara-specific register, so confirm the current position with NAFDAC.
Does CAC registration replace NAFDAC approval? No. CAC registration gives your business a registered name. NAFDAC approval for products and premises comes only from NAFDAC.
Do some chemicals need special permits? Yes. Certain chemicals are controlled, and individuals should not hold them without authorisation. Check with NAFDAC and the other relevant authorities before you buy or sell them. We do not handle these permits.
Can I repackage chemicals into smaller containers? Repackaging has its own requirements. Officials elsewhere have acted against people repackaging counterfeit and expired chemicals, so check what is allowed with NAFDAC first. We do not handle that step.
Can I use another company’s label or NAFDAC number? No. In a Kano case, a factory labelled fake agrochemicals with fake NAFDAC numbers and was sealed. Use only your own approved labels and registration.
Do I need a safe storage and fire-safety plan? Yes, though it is separate from CAC. Chemicals need proper storage, labelling and spill and fire arrangements, and the relevant authorities can advise.
Can I transport chemicals myself? Transporting hazardous goods can involve licensing and safety rules. These are separate from CAC and we do not handle them.
Do I need a warehouse before I register? You need a business address and the LGA. A shop or warehouse address works. If you are still arranging premises, send the address you plan to use.
Does the certificate prove my products are genuine? No. CAC registration gives your business a registered name. It does not test or approve your products.
Will the certificate help with schools, companies or government supply? Organisations often ask for proof of registration before buying regularly, so the certificate is a useful document to have. It does not guarantee any order.
I run more than one shop or store. Do I register each? One registration covers your business as a whole. Any premises approvals are separate, so confirm what each location needs.
Can I sell chemicals and other farm inputs under one name? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly, for example “agrochemical and farm-input sales”. Some products may have their own approvals.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other details.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the ₦35,500.
Will I get a printed certificate, and how is it delivered? You receive a soft copy on WhatsApp, which you can print locally whenever you like.
What if my first-choice name isn’t available? Send a backup name and we will check it right away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.
What should I write as the nature of business? Keep it simple and broad, such as “agrochemical and fertiliser sales” or “soap and detergent production”. We can help you word it when you send your details.
Do I need to file anything with CAC in later years? Yes, registered businesses file annual returns. It is a small, separate step and we can help with it when the time comes.
Do you register chemical businesses outside Gusau? Yes. We register chemical businesses in all 14 LGAs of Zamfara State, from Talata Mafara and Kaura Namoda to Anka and Shinkafi, at the same price and turnaround.
