What’s Not Usually Included
CAC registration gives your business a legal name. It does not approve products or licence precious-metal trading. These items are separate:
- Printed copies of your certificate, which comes as a soft copy for you to print locally
- NAFDAC registration for cosmetic products you manufacture, import or sell under your own label
- Importer registration with the Nigeria Customs Service if you bring in jewellery, cosmetics or raw materials yourself
- Requirements of the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development if you buy, handle or transport raw gold or other minerals
- Trademark registration for your brand name, logo or packaging design, handled separately from CAC
- Local government permits for your shop, stall or studio, to be confirmed with your LGA
- Tax obligations that apply to your business, including VAT where relevant
- Insurance, if you want cover for high-value stock
- A business bank account, opened with your chosen bank once the certificate arrives
- Annual returns in later years, a small separate step we can also help with
Business Name vs. Limited Liability Company
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Individual jewellers, make-up artists and cosmetics retailers | Larger jewellery houses, beauty distributors, and businesses with partners or investors |
For a shop, a stall or a make-up studio, a Business Name usually covers what you need: a registered name for your price lists, receipts and bank account. A company starts to make sense when you hold high-value stock, share ownership, supply other shops in volume or bring in an investor. Many owners start with a Business Name and upgrade later.
Requirements for CAC Registration in Zamfara State
- Two proposed business names, ranked in order of preference
- A valid ID — National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s licence
- A passport photograph
- Your business address in Zamfara State, with the LGA; a shop, stall, studio or home address is fine
- A phone number and email address
- Nature of business, described simply, for example “jewellery and cosmetics retail” or “make-up and beauty services”
- If you choose a Limited Liability Company instead: names, ID and details of the directors and shareholders
Step-by-Step: How Little This Actually Takes
- We check name availability on CAC’s public search portal.
- We reserve the name once it is confirmed available.
- We complete the application with your business details and Zamfara address.
- You upload your ID and passport photograph; a phone photo is fine.
- You pay ₦35,500 once, covering everything listed above.
- You receive your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report, usually within 5–7 working days.
From your details and one payment onwards, the filing and follow-up are in our hands until the certificate is yours.
Zamfara’s Gold Reputation, the Mining Rules and the NAFDAC Factor
Zamfara is widely known as a gold state, and that reputation matters to anyone selling jewellery or dealing in precious metal. The federal government suspended mining in Zamfara in 2019 over security concerns and lifted the ban in 2025. A notice from the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development effective 18 December 2025 sets out new rules for regularising mining titles and activities in the state, including that only registered buyers and transporters should handle minerals. If you buy raw or unrefined gold, confirm with the Ministry what applies to you. A CAC certificate gives your business a legal name; it is not a minerals licence.
For cosmetics, the regulator is NAFDAC. NAFDAC has been running national enforcement drives against unregistered, expired and banned cosmetics, including large seizures at the Lagos Trade Fair market in 2025, and has urged traders to register their products and use its decentralised registration process. We found no Zamfara-specific NAFDAC action or local rule for jewellers or beauty businesses, so confirm local permit requirements with your LGA and check the NAFDAC registration number on any product you stock.
Registering a business name is usually the first step before the other approvals. It does not guarantee any product registration, licence or customer.
Zamfara’s Jewellery Counters and Beauty Studios, Town by Town
The fee, requirements and timeline do not change across the state. Here is how our coverage looks across the 14 LGAs.
Gusau and the busiest markets
- Gusau — the state capital, where jewellers, perfume counters and beauty shops sit side by side near the main markets and in busy neighbourhoods
- Kaura Namoda and Talata Mafara — jewellers, cosmetics shops and make-up artists serving large town populations and wedding seasons
Mid-sized towns
- Zurmi, Shinkafi and Maradun — cosmetics sellers and beauty services for growing local markets
- Bungudu and Maru — jewellery counters and fragrance shops serving town and village customers
Smaller towns and rural communities
- Anka, Bakura and Gummi — accessories sellers, make-up artists and henna artists serving surrounding communities
- Bukkuyum, Chafe and Birnin Magaji/Kiyaw — small shops and home-based beauty businesses
If your shop, stall or studio is anywhere in Zamfara State, we can register it.
Display Cases, Shades and Wedding Season
Your day is spent where customers can see and touch the work: arranging a display case, helping someone choose between two foundation shades, sizing a ring before a wedding or measuring out incense for a repeat customer. Wedding and Sallah seasons compress everything into a few busy weeks. A registration form can wait for no one in those weeks, so hand it over. Your business name will then be on your price lists, packaging and bank details, and your attention stays with the customer at the counter.
You’ll Probably Like Working With Us If…
Not every registration service is the right match for every business owner, and that’s fine — here’s who tends to get the most out of working with us:
- You spend your days behind a display case or at a client’s side — fitting a necklace, matching a shade before a wedding — and you can’t step away to wait on a website.
- You’re building toward your own label, a bridal studio or supplying other shops — and you want a registered name on your packaging, price lists and invoices.
- You want a recommendation that fits your size — not the biggest package by default.
- You’d rather not chase anyone — one message starts it, and the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.
If that sounds like you, send your business name and we’ll get started.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a jewellery or cosmetics business in Zamfara State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same in every LGA. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What do I get for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC application, CAC’s government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
Is a Business Name enough for a jewellery shop or beauty business? For most owner-run shops, studios and stalls, yes. It gives you the legal name you need for trading, receipts and a bank account.
When would a Limited Liability Company make sense? If you hold high-value stock, share ownership, supply other shops in volume or expect an investor. Otherwise the Business Name is the cheaper starting point.
Can partners register a jewellery or beauty business together? Yes, a Business Name can be registered by one person or by partners. If you want the business to stand apart from your personal assets, consider the Limited Liability Company.
Does CAC registration cover NAFDAC approval for cosmetics? No. NAFDAC registers cosmetic products separately, and registering a business name does not replace it.
Can I sell cosmetics legally with only a CAC certificate? The certificate gives your business a registered name. The products you sell are expected to carry their own NAFDAC registration, so check the number on every item you stock.
I make soaps or creams at home. Can I register my business? Yes. Registration gives you the business name. Producing and selling body-care products under your own label involves NAFDAC requirements, which are separate.
Does registering protect my brand name or logo? No. A business name registration does not protect your logo or packaging. Trademark registration is a separate process.
Can one name cover jewellery and cosmetics? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly, such as “jewellery, cosmetics and accessories”, so one registration covers both.
I’m a make-up artist and work at clients’ homes. What address do I use? Use the address where you are based, such as a studio or your home, with the LGA.
Can I use my home address? Yes, if that is where your business is based. The application needs a business address in Zamfara State and its LGA.
I sell from a market stall. What address do I use? Use the market or shop address where you trade, with the LGA. If you work from several spots, give the main one.
I don’t have a shop or studio yet. Can I still register? You need an address in Zamfara State and its LGA for the application. If you are still arranging premises, send the address you plan to use.
Do I need a separate registration for a second outlet? One registration covers your business as a whole. Local permits are often tied to each location, so confirm what applies to every site.
I deal in gold. Does a CAC certificate allow me to trade it? No. Buying and handling raw gold is regulated by the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development. Confirm what applies to you.
Can I register a business that buys raw or unrefined gold? You can register the business name. The buying, handling and transport of minerals carry their own rules, which are separate from CAC.
I import jewellery or cosmetics. What else do I need? Importers deal with Customs, and cosmetics need NAFDAC registration. These are separate from CAC. Check the current requirements for your products.
What should I write as my nature of business? Keep it simple and broad, such as “jewellery and cosmetics retail” or “make-up and beauty services”. Send what you do and we will word it correctly.
Can I register a wholesale and retail business under one name? Yes. Describe both, for example “cosmetics wholesale and retail”, so one registration covers both.
Will a certificate help me buy stock on credit from suppliers? Suppliers often like to see proof of registration before extending terms. It helps you answer that request, but any credit decision is the supplier’s.
Can I register if I sell mainly online? Yes. Use your business address, or the address you ship from, and describe the nature of business as retail or online trading.
Can I open a bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for when opening a business account, along with your ID and other details.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number comes with the ₦35,500.
Are there CAC filings in later years? Registered businesses file annual returns. It is a small, separate step, and we can help when it falls due.
Do you register businesses outside Gusau? Yes. We register businesses across all 14 LGAs in Zamfara State at the same price and turnaround.
Is the price the same in Maru, Anka or Shinkafi as in Gusau? Yes. ₦35,500 and 5–7 working days apply wherever in the state your business is based.
What if my first-choice name isn’t available? Send a second name and we will check it straight away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many jewellers and beauty businesses start with a Business Name and convert as stock and teams grow. We can help with the conversion.
What documents do I need for a Limited Liability Company? The same basics as for a Business Name, plus the names, ID and details of each director and shareholder.
How do I receive my certificate, and can I print it? It is sent to you as a soft copy on WhatsApp. You can print it locally whenever you need a hard copy.
Can I use words like “Gold” or “International” in my name? CAC restricts some words, and we check this during the name search. Send your preferred names and we will tell you what is available.
