Farming is the backbone of Ondo State’s economy: cocoa pods on the hillsides around Idanre, cassava and plantain on family plots, fish landed along the creeks and coast, and timber standing in the forest belt. A farm that sells to buyers, processors or exporters is also a business, and a registered business name is what lets it be treated as one. Onelove Business Ventures, an accredited CAC agent, handles the name search, the filing and the certificate for farmers, fishers and agribusinesses in every part of Ondo State. Start with one WhatsApp message containing your business name; everything that follows sits with us.

Nigeria’s Cocoa Heartland, and Where Farm Businesses Fit In
Ondo is widely recognised as Nigeria’s largest cocoa-producing state, with Idanre, Ondo West, Odigbo, Owo and Akure South named among its main cocoa-growing LGAs. Cocoa here is mostly in the hands of smallholders, alongside oil palm, cassava, plantain and timber, while the coastal Ilaje communities have long depended on fishing. The state has also been pushing larger-scale farming: in February 2026, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa announced the declassification of 15 hectares for oil palm, cocoa and cashew at Owena-Idanre, off the AkureβOndo road, at the groundbreaking of Noreta Farms, a technology-driven agribusiness project.
None of that gives any individual farmer land, inputs or a place in a government scheme, and a new registration does not entitle you to take part in one. What it does reflect is a farming economy where more of the trade runs through buyers, processors, input suppliers and investors, and those parties tend to prefer dealing with a business that has a registered name. A certificate gives you a name for your invoices and receipts, a bank account to be paid into, and a document to show when a produce buyer, cooperative or lender asks who they are dealing with. Rules on land, exports, processing and fishing sit outside CAC, so ask the relevant authorities what applies to your kind of farm.
Farming and Agribusiness Operations We Register
- Crop farmers β cassava, yam, maize, plantain and vegetables, on family or leased land.
- Cocoa, kola and tree-crop growers β plantations and family farms producing cash crops.
- Produce buyers and aggregators β buying cocoa, kola, grains and tubers from farmers for resale.
- Fish farmers and fishing businesses β ponds, boats, nets and landing-site operations.
- Fish processors and traders β smoked, dried and fresh fish sold at markets and to buyers.
- Forestry and tree-planting businesses β nurseries, plantations and woodlots.
- Agro-input dealers β seeds, seedlings, fertiliser, tools and farm supplies.
- Farm service providers β tractor hire, land clearing and farm management for other growers.
Outside the Scope of This Registration
A CAC certificate gives your farm or agribusiness a legal name. These items are handled separately, and you deal with them directly:
- A printed copy of your certificate (we send a soft copy, and any print shop can produce the hard copy)
- Land documents, such as lease agreements or title papers, for your farmland, fish ponds or plantation
- Export-related requirements, including exporter registration and produce quality or plant-health certificates, if you sell cocoa or other produce abroad; check the current rules with the relevant federal agencies
- NAFDAC requirements, which can apply if you process, package or sell food products, or handle agrochemicals
- Fishing, boat and fish-farm permits from the relevant state and federal fisheries authorities
- Forestry permits for felling or moving timber, handled through the state’s forestry authorities
- Cooperative registration, if you wish to form or join a farmers’ cooperative; this is a separate process
- State and federal tax obligations that apply to your business
- A business bank account, opened with your chosen bank once the certificate is in hand
- Annual returns with CAC in later years, a small separate step we can help with when it falls due
Here’s Exactly What You’re Paying For
A single β¦35,500 payment includes CAC’s filing fee and our service fee together, and no charges are added afterwards. If you would rather start as a company, a Limited Liability Company is β¦65,500, also all-inclusive.
- A search to confirm your business name is free on CAC’s register
- Reservation of the name once it clears
- Preparing and submitting your CAC Business Name application
- CAC’s government filing and processing fee
- Your Certificate of Registration, as a soft copy
- A Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- A CAC Status Report showing your business as active on the public register
Business Name or Limited Liability Company for a Farm
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | β¦35,500 | β¦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Individual farmers, small fish farmers, produce buyers and agro-input shops | Larger farms, plantation owners, exporters, and businesses with partners, investors or buyers who expect a company |
If you farm on your own or with family, run a few fish ponds, or buy and resell produce, a Business Name is usually enough to start. It gives you a registered name for receipts, supplier accounts and your bank. A company becomes worth considering when you lease or buy much more land, bring in investors or partners, or deal with buyers who expect a company structure. Starting with a Business Name and moving up later is a common path.

Pods, Ponds and a Buyer’s Truck at the Gate
Farm work follows the weather and the calendar, not office hours. During harvest there are pods to split, beans to ferment and dry, a buyer’s truck due before the rain and workers to pay by evening. On the water, there are nets to mend, a catch to land and ice or smoke to get to the fish before it spoils. Planting season brings its own rush of seedlings, inputs and loans to chase. In the middle of that, a government portal is the last thing to learn. Registration is a job you can hand over completely. Once it is done, your farm or business has a registered name for receipts, supplier accounts and bank paperwork, and you can get back to the work that feeds your customers.
Is This Right for Your Business?
Before you decide, here’s an honest look at who gets the most from our service:
- You’d rather not open CAC’s portal in the middle of harvest week, with pods to split, beans to dry and a buyer’s truck due at the gate, or while a catch is landing and the fish still has to be iced or smoked β your time belongs on the farm and the water.
- You’re growing from selling at the farm gate towards supplying produce buyers, processors or exporters, adding fish ponds or a nursery, or leasing more land β and you want a registered name to grow under.
- You’d like the cheaper option when it’s enough β we’ll say so plainly rather than steer you toward a Limited Liability Company you don’t need yet.
- You want one message to actually mean one message β no chasing documents back and forth, no surprise extra fees once you’ve paid.
If this describes you, we’d be glad to take the paperwork off your hands.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a farm or agribusiness in Ondo State? β¦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same in every Ondo State LGA. A Limited Liability Company is β¦65,500 all-inclusive.
What do I get for the β¦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, CAC’s government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
Is a Business Name enough for a farm? For most individual farmers, small fish farmers, produce buyers and input dealers, yes. It gives you the registered name to trade, invoice and bank under. Land, export and processing requirements are separate from CAC.
What address do I use if my farm is in a rural area? The application needs a business address in Ondo State and its LGA. You can use the address you operate from or plan to use, whether that is your farm location or your home or shop in town. If you’re not sure it will be accepted, ask us on WhatsApp before paying.
Can I register a cocoa or produce-buying business? Yes. Buying and reselling cocoa, kola, grains or tubers can be registered the same way as farming; just describe it in a line or two.
Can I register a fish farm or fishing business? Yes. Fish farming, fishing and fish trading are registered like any other business. Fishing and boat permits are separate, so check what applies to you.
Can I register a forestry or tree-nursery business? Yes. Describe the work in plain words. Permits for felling or moving timber are separate from CAC, so check with the state’s forestry authorities.
Can I register an agro-input shop? Yes. Seeds, seedlings, fertiliser and tools can be described together. If you sell agrochemicals, NAFDAC requirements may apply separately.
Can I register farming and processing under one name? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly, such as “farming, processing and sale of farm produce”. Processed or packaged food may need NAFDAC approval, which is separate from CAC.
Does CAC registration give me land rights or access to farm grants? No. CAC registration gives your business a legal name only. Land rights come from your land documents, and grants or schemes have their own conditions.
Do I need extra documents to export cocoa or other produce? Yes, possibly. Exporting can involve exporter registration and quality or plant-health certificates, all handled outside CAC. Check the current requirements with the relevant federal agencies.
Do I need NAFDAC approval? It depends on what you do. It can apply if you process, package or sell food products or handle agrochemicals. NAFDAC is a separate process from CAC.
Do fishing and boat licences come with the registration? No. Those permits come from the relevant fisheries authorities and are handled separately.
Does registration include forming a cooperative? No. Cooperative registration is a separate process. Your CAC registration covers your own business only.
Will a CAC certificate help me with buyers, loans or grants? Buyers, cooperatives and lenders often ask for proof of registration, so the certificate is a useful document to hold. It does not guarantee any sale, loan or grant.
Do you register businesses outside Akure, Owo and Ondo city? Yes. We cover all of Ondo State, from the coast to the Akoko hills, at the same price and turnaround.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other details.
Is the TIN included? Yes, a Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the β¦35,500.
Do I have to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses file annual returns. It’s a small, separate step and we can help with it when the time comes.
What if my first-choice name is already taken? Send a backup and we’ll check it straight away. Two or three options ready keeps things moving.
Can I move from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many farm businesses start with a Business Name and convert as they grow or bring in partners or investors. We can help with the conversion.
When does it make sense to start as a Limited Liability Company? If you’re launching a larger plantation, sharing ownership with partners, or selling to buyers who expect a company structure, the company route is worth considering from day one.
I farm in more than one place. Does one registration cover all my farms? One registration covers your business as a whole, and you can describe it broadly. Approvals tied to particular land or premises may be separate, so confirm what applies to each location.
I farm part-time alongside a job. Can I register? Yes. You need your ID, passport photograph, contact details and an address in Ondo State. Registering early lets you set up your name and bank account before you scale up.
