CAC Business Name Registration for Welding in Ondo State

Walk down almost any street in Ondo State and you will see a welder’s work: the gate at the end of the compound, the burglar-proof across a window, the steel frame of a shop, the roof truss over a church hall. Behind much of that metal is a workshop that started with a few electrodes and a generator, and behind the workshop are the scrap dealers and iron sellers who keep it supplied. A registered name gives that kind of business something to put on a quotation or a supplier account. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We handle the name search, the filing and the certificate for you, wherever your workshop or yard is in Ondo State. Reach out with your business name over WhatsApp, and every other step of the filing is handled for you.

When Scrap Metal Became a Local Rules Issue in Ondo

For anyone dealing in iron scrap, the rules can come from the local council as well as from the state and federal levels. In April 2025, the Okitipupa Local Government Area banned scavenging and scrap-metal activities following security breaches in the area. By July of that year the council had lifted the ban, after profiling and registering the individuals and operators in the business. The council said it had issued identification jackets and numbers, identity cards and branded stickers to verified scavengers, that only those carrying them were authorised to operate in the area, and that the exercise would continue to accommodate new entrants.

That is one council and one episode, but it shows the direction of travel for a trade that is tied to security concerns: operators are expected to be identifiable and documented. For a welder, fabricator or scrap dealer, a registered business name is part of looking credible when a council, a supplier or a customer asks who you are. It does not replace a local profiling or registration scheme where one exists, and it doesn’t grant permission to trade in scrap. What it does is give your business a legal name and a Tax Identification Number. Check with your local council to find out whether any requirements apply in your area.

What Your ₦35,500 Covers

One all-inclusive payment covers CAC’s filing fee and our service fee together, with nothing added later. If you would rather start as a company, a Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.

Business Name or Limited Liability Company?

Best forIndividual welders, small fabrication shops, blacksmiths and small scrap yardsLarger fabrication firms, bulk scrap and steel suppliers, businesses with partners or investors

A Business Name is enough for most welders and small workshops starting out: it gives you a legal name for quotations, receipts and a bank account. A company starts to make sense when you take on large fabrication contracts, trade scrap or steel in volume, or share ownership with partners. Many metalworking businesses begin with a Business Name and convert later.

Documents to Have Ready

  1. Two proposed business names, in order of preference
  2. A valid ID — National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s license
  3. A passport photograph
  4. Your business address in Ondo State, with the LGA
  5. Phone number and email address
  6. A short description of what you do, e.g. “welding and metal fabrication” or “iron scrap trading and steel works”
  7. For a Limited Liability Company only: names, ID and details of directors and shareholders

The Registration Timeline

  1. We check name availability on CAC’s public search portal.
  2. We reserve the name once it is confirmed available.
  3. We complete the application with your business and address details.
  4. You upload your ID and passport photograph — a clear phone photo works.
  5. You pay the ₦35,500, one payment covering everything above.
  6. You receive your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report, usually within 5–7 working days.

Beyond sending your details and paying once, you have nothing to follow up while we work toward your certificate.

What Falls Outside This Registration

Metalwork and scrap dealing sit next to several rules that CAC registration does not cover:

The price, requirements and turnaround stay the same wherever you work. We register welding, metalwork and scrap businesses in all 23 areas below.

If your workshop or yard is anywhere in Ondo State, you’re covered.

Sparks, Electrodes and a Lorry Waiting to Be Weighed

A welding or scrap business runs on small, physical decisions that do not wait: a gate that has to be measured, cut and welded before the client comes back on Friday, an electrode box running low, a generator that needs fuel, a lorry of scrap arriving at the yard that has to be weighed and paid for, and a customer who wants one more change to the design. Between all of that, there is rarely a quiet hour to learn CAC’s portal. Handing it to us means your hands stay on the work. When it’s done, your business has a registered name for quotations, receipts and supplier accounts, and the documents banks and larger customers ask for.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does CAC registration cost for a welding or metalwork business in Ondo State, and is a Business Name enough? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same in every part of Ondo State, covering the name search and reservation, the CAC filing and fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive. For most individual welders and small workshops, a Business Name is enough to start, and you can convert later if the business grows.

Can welding, fabrication and scrap trading go under one registration? Yes. You can describe the nature of business broadly, for example “welding, metal fabrication and scrap-metal trading”. One registration covers the business as a whole. A Limited Liability Company becomes worth considering when you have partners, large contracts or significant volumes to handle.

What else do scrap dealers need besides CAC registration? CAC registration gives your business a legal name, but it doesn’t grant permission to deal in scrap. Local councils and security agencies can have their own requirements; in 2025, for example, the Okitipupa Local Government Area ran a profiling and registration scheme with identification cards for scrap operators. Check what applies in your area, and keep proper records of what you buy and from whom.

Will the certificate help me get contracts, and do you register businesses outside Akure? Contractors, estates, schools and industrial buyers often ask for proof of registration before awarding fabrication or supply work, so the certificate is a useful document to have, though it does not guarantee any contract. We register welding, metalwork and scrap businesses in all 23 areas of Ondo State, from Owo and the Akoko areas to Okitipupa, Ilaje and Ese Odo, at the same price and turnaround. You need a business address in Ondo State and its LGA for the application, so if you are still arranging a workshop, send the address you plan to use.
