Farming and fishing in Rivers State range from market-garden plots on the edge of Port Harcourt to fish ponds in the upland towns and boats working the creeks around Bonny, Andoni and Opobo. Whatever your scale, trading under a registered business name is usually the first formal step: it gives the farm, pond, plantation or fishing business an identity that buyers, banks and programme officers recognise. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We run the name search, prepare the filing and deliver your certificate, whether you farm in the city’s outskirts or in a creek community far from any registry office.
The all-inclusive fee for a CAC Business Name is ₦35,500, with the CAC government fee and our service fee already inside that figure. If you would rather start as a company, a Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.
It really is this simple: send us your business name on WhatsApp, and we’ll handle everything else.

Farming and Fishing Businesses We Register in Rivers State
The agriculture, forestry, fishing and farming sector covers far more than one kind of operator. We register all of the following:
- Crop farmers — cassava, yam, plantain, cocoyam, maize, vegetables and other food crops, on a family plot or a larger holding.
- Fish farmers — catfish and tilapia growers running concrete, earthen or tarpaulin ponds, hatcheries and fingerling suppliers.
- Creek and coastal fishers — owners of canoes and boats, and the crayfish, shrimp and periwinkle harvesters who work the waterways.
- Fish processors and sellers — smoked, dried and fresh fish traders who buy from the landing points and sell onward.
- Oil palm and tree-crop growers — plantation owners, smallholders and nursery operators raising palm, rubber or fruit-tree seedlings.
- Forestry and timber businesses — tree planters, woodlot owners and suppliers of raw timber or poles.
- Agro-input and seedling suppliers — sellers of seeds, planting material, fertiliser, feed and farm tools.
- Mixed and integrated farms — operators combining crops, ponds and a little livestock under one name.

Here’s Exactly What You’re Paying For
One payment of ₦35,500 settles the whole registration for a farming or fishing business. CAC’s filing fee and our service fee are both counted in it, so no extra charges follow.
- A search of CAC’s register to confirm your business name is available
- Reservation of the name in your favour once it clears
- Preparation and submission of your CAC Business Name application
- The CAC government filing and processing fee
- Your Certificate of Registration, as a soft copy
- A Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- A CAC Status Report showing your business as active on the public register
Outside the Scope of This Registration
Registration gives your business a legal name. It is not a farming permit, a fishing licence or a land title, and several other items sit outside what we do here:
- Printed copies of your certificate. You receive a soft copy on WhatsApp and can print it locally whenever you need paper.
- Land documents for your farm or pond site, such as a title, a tenancy or lease, and the consent of the community or landowner where that applies.
- Enrolment with the Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture or the nearest Agricultural Development Programme office, where a farmer register or input scheme asks for it.
- Registration of a cooperative society with the state’s cooperative registry, if you farm or fish as a group. That is a different route from a CAC Business Name.
- Fishing permits and any boat or vessel requirements from the fisheries and maritime authorities, depending on whether you work inland waters, creeks or the coast.
- State forestry permits for felling, hauling or selling timber, if your business involves trees.
- NAFDAC approval if you package or process produce for sale, such as garri, smoked fish or other packaged foods, and NAFDAC rules on agrochemicals if you sell them.
- Phytosanitary and export paperwork from the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service, if you plan to sell produce abroad.
- Environmental and waste requirements for ponds, processing sites or any activity that discharges into surrounding land and water.
- Local government produce levies, market dues, and the state and federal tax obligations that apply to your business.
- A business bank account, opened with your chosen bank once your certificate is in hand.
- Annual returns filing in later years, a small separate step we can also help with when the time comes.
Business Name or Limited Liability Company: Which Suits a Farm?
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Typical operator | Individual farmers, fish farmers, boat owners, family operations | Larger plantations or fish farms, partnerships, operators with outside investors |
| Choose it when | You farm or fish on your own and need a legal name to trade under | Several people share ownership, or a funder or institutional buyer expects a company |
For most owner-operated farms, ponds and fishing businesses, a Business Name is enough to begin. A Limited Liability Company starts to make sense when the operation grows, when partners come in, or when someone putting money into the farm wants the business separate from your personal assets.

From your side, that’s the entire process: one message, one payment, one certificate.
Songhai, Cooperatives and Farm Registration in Rivers State
Agriculture has a long public profile in Rivers State, and two features of it make a registered business name especially useful. The first is the Songhai farm at Bunu-Tai in Tai Local Government Area, the state-owned integrated farm run through the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency. State leaders, including the governor in 2023 and the state administrator in 2025, have publicly said they want to revive it and bring in committed partners, and the farm’s own history is tied to local training, fish production and agro-processing. Whenever a farm, supplier or training programme works alongside an institution of that kind, a registered business with its own name and TIN is the sort of counterpart they tend to ask for. Check current developments directly, since the farm’s status and any partnership terms can change.
The second is the cooperative movement. The Rivers Cooperative Federation described itself in late 2025 as the umbrella body for more than 35,000 registered societies and said agriculture and fisheries are central to its plans. Many Rivers farmers and fishers work through cooperatives, and that is a separate registration, handled through the state’s cooperative registry rather than CAC. Many members also keep a registered business name for their own produce, ponds or boats, so the name stays theirs whether they sell through a group or on their own.
Where in Rivers State We Register Farms and Fisheries
Price, requirements and turnaround are the same in every part of the state. These are the areas our Rivers clients farm and fish in.
Port Harcourt and the surrounding belt
- Port Harcourt and Obio-Akpor — market gardens, urban fish ponds and agro-input shops serving the city
- Eleme, Oyigbo and Emohua — farms and pond operators on the city’s eastern and northern edges
- Ikwerre and Elele — crop farms and suppliers on the roads running out of Port Harcourt
Upland and floodplain communities
- Abua/Odual, Ahoada East and Ahoada West — farmland and pond sites on the western side of the state
- Etche and Omuma — crop-growing communities in the northern and north-eastern parts of Rivers
- Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni and Omoku — farms, fishers and suppliers in the state’s northwest
Ogoni and the eastern communities
- Gokana, Khana and Bori — farmers and fish operators across the Ogoni heartland
- Tai — the area around the Bunu-Tai Songhai farm and the farms that surround it
Creeks, coast and island communities
- Andoni, Bonny and Opobo/Nkoro — fishers, fish traders and smokers along the coastal waterways
- Okrika and Ogu/Bolo — island and riverfront communities where fishing and trading go together
- Akuku-Toru, Asari-Toru and Buguma — creek towns in the Kalabari area
- Degema Hulk and Obonoma — waterside communities where boats and landing points shape daily work
If your farm, pond or fishing operation is anywhere in Rivers State, you’re covered.
The Farm Doesn’t Wait for Paperwork
Planting dates, rising water, feed deliveries, harvest days and the morning a catch comes in all set their own timetable. A pond that loses power, a cassava field ready to lift, or a boat that must leave before the tide turns will not wait while you work through a government portal. You already know your land, your water and your buyers. The name registration is one job on your list that can leave your hands completely, and once it is done, your produce trades under a registered name that can appear on invoices, bank forms and supply arrangements.
Is This Right for Your Business?
Different business owners want different things from an agent — this is who we serve best:
- You’re out at the farm at dawn, standing over a pond at feeding time, or at the landing point when the catch arrives — you’d rather the CAC paperwork be done for you than squeezed in between the work.
- You’re aiming past the local market — from selling at nearby markets to supplying processors, restaurants and bulk buyers in Port Harcourt, or adding a second pond site or a processing line, and you want a registered name to grow under.
- You want honest advice, not an upsell — if a Business Name covers your stage, that’s what we’ll recommend.
- You want things kept simple — your details, one payment, your certificate.
If that sounds like you, send your business name and we’ll get started.
Questions Rivers Farmers Ask Us
How much does CAC registration cost for a farm or fishing business in Rivers State? ₦35,500, all-inclusive, for a Business Name, the same in every LGA. A Limited Liability Company costs ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.
What does the ₦35,500 include? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC application, the CAC government fee, your soft-copy Certificate of Registration, a TIN, and a CAC Status Report.
Can I register if I farm on a small plot or only part-time? Yes. A Business Name suits individual and small-scale operators, and you don’t need a large farm to register one.
Is a Business Name enough for a farm, or should I choose a Limited Liability Company? For most owner-operated farms, ponds and fishing businesses, a Business Name is enough to start. A Limited Liability Company is worth considering from the beginning if you have partners, expect investors, or want your personal assets separate from the business.
Does the CAC certificate replace a farming licence, a fishing permit or a land title? No. It gives your business a registered name. Land documents, fishing permits, forestry permits and food-safety approvals are separate and come from the relevant authorities.
Do fish farmers and fishers register the same way as crop farmers? Yes. The process, price and turnaround are identical. Describe the business in your own words, for example “fish farming and sale of fresh and smoked fish.”
Can a timber or tree-planting business register too? Yes. Forestry and tree-crop businesses register as a Business Name like any other. Permits for felling or moving timber are a separate matter handled with the state.
Can I put crops, ponds and fishing under one business name? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly, and one registration can cover all of them. Packaged food products or agrochemical sales may need their own approvals.
Is this the same as registering with the Ministry of Agriculture or as a cooperative? No. A cooperative society registers through the state’s cooperative registry, and farmer enrolment for state programmes goes through the agriculture ministry or its programme offices. CAC registration is for your business name.
What address do I use if my farm is in a village or creek community, or I haven’t secured land yet? Use the address you can actually give, such as your home, office or a community address, and name the LGA it falls under. If you are still arranging a site, send the address you plan to use.
Do you register businesses outside Port Harcourt? Yes. We register farming and fishing businesses across Rivers State, from Etche and Ahoada to Bonny, Andoni and Opobo, at the same price and turnaround.
Will a CAC certificate help me sell to processors, hotels or institutional buyers? Larger buyers often ask for proof of registration before placing regular or bulk orders, so the certificate is a useful document to hold. It does not guarantee any sale.
Does it help with grants, loans or agricultural support programmes? Many programmes and lenders ask applicants to show a registered business, and the certificate, TIN and Status Report are the documents typically requested. Approval always rests with the programme or lender, and nothing is guaranteed.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other account details.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the ₦35,500.
Will I need to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses file annual returns. It is a small, separate step, and we can help with it when the time comes.
What if my first-choice business name is taken? Send a second name and we’ll check it right away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many farms and fisheries start with a Business Name and convert when they grow or investors come in. We can assist with the conversion.
