Buying, stocking and selling keeps a great many Taraba businesses going, whether that means a provision store in town, a stall in the market, a wholesale store supplying other shops or a trader moving goods from one state to the next. Giving that business a registered name is a practical step, and it is one that does not have to eat into your trading hours. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We handle the name search, the filing and the certificate for you, wherever in Taraba State your shop, store or stall is. You don’t need to prepare a thing beyond your business name — send it on WhatsApp and we pick up from there.
How Goods Move Through Taraba, and Why a Registered Name Helps
Taraba’s position and its farms make it a natural trading state. Britannica records that its farmers grow cassava, sorghum, millet, rice, yams, sugarcane and maize, that river fishing and the herding of cattle, goats and sheep are also important, and that the state borders Cameroon in the south. Roads run north to Yola, west to Bauchi and south to Makurdi, and the Benue River offers river transport as well. The state’s road listing also includes the A8, which runs south to Gembu on the Mambilla Plateau, with a road from Gembu toward Banyo in Cameroon.
Anyone moving sacks of grain, cartons of provisions or household goods along those routes ends up dealing with suppliers, transporters, buyers and banks, and each of them tends to ask the same thing sooner or later: what registered name is on your invoice? A World Bank study of trade between Cameroon and Nigeria identified regulatory and security barriers at the border and along the road as key obstacles, which is a good reminder to keep your own paperwork in order. A CAC certificate will not clear goods through customs or approve a product, since those are separate matters covered below. What it does is give your trading business a legal name and identity to build on.

| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| Price, all-inclusive | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Separates you from the business | No | Yes |

If you run a shop or stall, or wholesale on a modest scale, a Business Name usually does the job: it gives you a legal name for invoices, supplier accounts and a bank account. A Limited Liability Company becomes worth considering when you have partners, when you carry large stock on credit, or when you start supplying organisations that want to deal with a company. Many trading businesses begin with a Business Name and convert once turnover grows.
Documents to Have Ready
- Two business names, listed in the order you prefer them
- A valid ID — National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s license
- A passport photograph
- Your business address in Taraba State, with the LGA named
- A phone number and an email address
- A short description of what you trade in — for example “general merchandise and wholesale trading” or “provisions, household goods and distribution”
- For a Limited Liability Company only: names, IDs and details of the directors and shareholders
The Registration Timeline
- We search CAC’s public portal to see whether your first-choice name is free.
- We reserve the name as soon as it is cleared.
- We fill in and file the application, using your details and your Taraba address.
- You send a phone photo of your ID along with your passport photograph.
- You pay ₦35,500 once; it covers every item in the list above.
- Your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report come to you, usually within 5–7 working days.
Your part ends once the ID photo is sent and the payment is made; the certificate finds you on WhatsApp.
What Falls Outside This Registration
CAC registration gives your business a legal name. These items are separate, and some of them will apply to what you sell:
- Printed copies of your certificate — we send a soft copy, and you can print it at any business centre
- NAFDAC registration, which can apply if you package or sell food, drinks, cosmetics or medicines under your own brand
- Product-standard requirements from the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), where they apply to goods you sell or import
- Customs duties and import documentation for goods you bring in, and exporter registration with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council if you sell abroad
- Stall, shop and signage permits and levies set by your local government council or market association
- Your tax filings, including VAT where it applies to your sales
- Approvals for any warehouse or storage building you use
- Employer obligations such as pension and employee-compensation contributions, once your staff numbers reach the level that triggers them
- Opening a business bank account, which you do with your bank once the certificate is in hand
- Annual returns in later years — a short, separate filing that we can also take care of

Buying, Selling, Counting Stock: Registration Needn’t Be One More Job
A trading day is full of small decisions. A supplier changes a price, a delivery arrives short, a customer wants credit until the end of the month, and the shelf that was full on Monday is half empty by Thursday. You are already keeping track of cartons, receipts and who owes what. Registration is one task you can hand over completely. Once it’s done, your business has a registered name for invoices, supplier accounts, bank forms and quotations, so you can get back to selling.
Is This Right for Your Business?
We’re not the right fit for everyone, and we’d rather say so — here’s who usually benefits most from working with us:
- You’d rather not be wrestling with CAC’s portal while a delivery is waiting to be offloaded, a customer is waiting at the counter or the market is about to open — you want the paperwork finished while you keep trading.
- You’re planning to move from selling over the counter to supplying other shops, schools or offices, or to open a second outlet in another town such as Wukari or Takum — and you want a registered name on every invoice.
- You want honest advice, not an upsell — if a Business Name covers your stage, that’s what we’ll recommend.
- You’d rather not chase anyone — one message starts it, and the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.
If this describes you, we’d be glad to take the paperwork off your hands.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a trading business in Taraba State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, whichever Taraba LGA you trade in. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What do I receive for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC application, the government filing fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
Is a Business Name enough for a shop or a wholesale business? For most owner-run shops, stalls and small wholesalers, yes. If you later bring in partners, investors or very large contracts, you can move up to a company.
My shop sells many different things. What do I write as my nature of business? Describe it broadly, for example “general merchandise and wholesale trading”. You don’t need to list every product.
Can I use one name for both retail and wholesale? Yes. Describe both in the nature of business. Any permits tied to a particular shop or market are handled separately.
I trade from an open-market stall. Can I register? Yes. Use the address of the market or stall and tell us the LGA it falls under.
I sell online or through WhatsApp and don’t have a shop. Can I still register? Yes. You need a business address in Taraba State, which can be your home address if that is where you operate.
Does registration allow me to sell food, drinks or cosmetics? CAC registration gives you a registered name, and nothing more. Products packaged and sold under your own label generally involve NAFDAC, so check what applies to the goods you handle.
Do I need SON approval for the goods I sell? It depends on the products. SON sets standards for certain goods, and that process is separate from CAC registration.
Does a CAC certificate cover importing or exporting? No. Customs duties, import documents and exporter registration are handled separately. The certificate gives you the registered business name you will use on that paperwork.
Will a certificate help me win supply contracts with schools or offices? Organisations often ask for proof of registration before ordering regularly from a supplier, so it is a useful document to hold. It does not guarantee any contract.
Can I open a business bank account with it? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other details.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the ₦35,500.
Do I have to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses file annual returns. It is a short, separate step, and we can help you when it comes due.
What if my chosen name is already taken? Send us a backup name and we will check it straight away. Keeping two or three options ready speeds things up.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many trading businesses start with a Business Name and convert as they grow, and we can help with the conversion.
When does a Limited Liability Company make sense from the start? If you plan to share ownership with partners, carry large stock on credit, or an investor wants a company structure, the company route is worth considering from day one.
Can one registration cover more than one shop? One registration covers your business as a whole, and you can describe it broadly. Permits for individual shops or market stalls are usually handled separately, so check what applies to each location.
Do you register businesses outside Jalingo? Yes. We register trading and wholesale businesses in all 16 LGAs of Taraba State, from Sardauna and Gashaka to Wukari and Takum, at the same price and with the same turnaround.
