Separate From This Registration
CAC registration gives your facility a legal name. It is not a licence to treat patients. These items are separate and handled directly:
- Printed copies of your certificate, which comes as a soft copy for you to print locally
- Registration, licensing and revalidation of your facility with the Zamfara State Ministry of Health
- Professional registration and practising licences for your clinical staff, such as MDCN for doctors and dentists and NMCN for nurses and midwives, plus any other council relevant to your services
- Separate licences for any pharmacy, dispensary or laboratory unit inside your facility
- Radiation-safety authorisation if you operate X-ray or other imaging equipment
- Accreditation with health insurance schemes, such as ZAMCHEMA or the national insurance authority, if you want to serve insured patients
- Building, fire-safety and premises approvals for the facility
- Medical waste handling and other environmental requirements
- Tax obligations that apply to your business
- Professional indemnity or other insurance cover, if you choose to take it out
- A business bank account, opened with your chosen bank once the certificate arrives
- Annual returns in later years, a small separate step we can also help with
Business Name vs. Limited Liability Company
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | โฆ35,500 | โฆ65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Small clinics, maternity homes and sole-owner practices | Larger hospitals, multi-partner practices, and facilities with outside investors |
A Business Name suits many small, owner-run clinics and maternity homes: it gives the facility a legal name for billing, supplier accounts and a bank account. A company is worth considering when several partners share ownership, when you plan a larger hospital, or when an investor requires one. Neither structure changes professional responsibility for patient care, which is governed by your professional bodies and the Ministry. Ask the Ministry which registration type it expects before you choose.
Zamfara’s Private Health Facility Revalidation and What It Means for New Clinics
The Zamfara State Ministry of Health has announced plans for a 2026 registration update and revalidation exercise covering all privately owned health facilities in the state, including private hospitals, clinics, maternity homes, laboratories and pharmacies, according to Leadership newspaper. The ministry warned that non-compliance could bring sanctions, including possible restrictions on continued operation. In a separate report, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, warned during an inspection tour that private facilities operating below approved standards could face closure.
The reports we found did not list the documents or fees involved, so ask the Ministry directly what a new or renewing facility must submit. Whatever those requirements are, a registered business name is commonly one of the first documents a regulator or insurer expects to see. For patients, the state’s contributory scheme, run by ZAMCHEMA, was reported to have registered 70,000 civil servants. If you want to treat insured patients, ask ZAMCHEMA about its own accreditation process, which we did not find published.
In practice the order is straightforward: register the business name, then apply for the Ministry’s registration and your other approvals. A CAC certificate does not guarantee any licence, accreditation or patient referral.
Night Shifts, Drug Stock and the Front Desk
Running a clinic means being needed in several places at once. A nurse hands over a night shift, a delivery of consumables needs checking, a patient is waiting at the front desk and the generator has to keep the ward running. A CAC portal is the last thing that fits into a day like that. Register once and your facility’s name goes onto bills, supplier accounts, insurance forms and bank details, so your attention stays on patients and staff.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a hospital or clinic in Zamfara State? โฆ35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same in every LGA. A Limited Liability Company is โฆ65,500 all-inclusive.
What do I get for the โฆ35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC application, CAC’s government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
Is a Business Name enough for a clinic or hospital? For many small, owner-run facilities it gives you the legal name you need. Because health facilities are regulated, check with the Ministry of Health which registration type it expects.
When does a Limited Liability Company make sense? When several partners share ownership, you plan a larger hospital, or an investor wants a company structure. Otherwise the Business Name is the cheaper starting point.
Can several doctors register a practice together? Yes, a Business Name can be registered by one person or by partners. If you want the business to stand apart from your personal assets, look at the Limited Liability Company.
Does CAC registration allow me to operate a clinic or hospital? No. It gives you a registered business name. Operating a health facility requires approval from the Zamfara State Ministry of Health and the relevant professional bodies.
Do I need to register with the Ministry of Health separately? Yes. The state has announced a 2026 registration update and revalidation for private facilities. Ask the Ministry what applies to a new or existing facility.
Will the Ministry ask for my CAC certificate? The reports we found did not list the documents required, so confirm with the Ministry. A registered business name is commonly among the first documents regulators ask to see.
Do I need MDCN, NMCN or other professional registration? Clinical staff generally need registration with their professional councils, such as MDCN for doctors and NMCN for nurses and midwives. These are separate from CAC.
Can someone who isn’t a clinician register a health facility business? CAC registration does not depend on being a clinician. Rules on who must supervise clinical work are set by the Ministry and professional bodies, so confirm those before you apply for your facility licence.
Can I register a maternity home? Yes. Describe the nature of business as maternity and general medical care. The facility itself still needs Ministry approval.
Can I register a nursing home or elderly care service? Yes. Describe it in the nature of business, for example “nursing and residential care”. Licensing for the facility is separate.
My hospital has a pharmacy and laboratory. Do they need separate licences? Yes. Pharmacy and laboratory units typically carry their own licences and registrations, separate from CAC.
I plan to use X-ray equipment. What else do I need? Radiation-safety authorisation may apply, and it is handled with the relevant regulator, not CAC.
How do I get accredited for health insurance patients? Insurance schemes such as ZAMCHEMA and the national insurance authority have their own accreditation processes. Ask them about requirements.
Will a certificate help me win insurer or HMO contracts? Insurers and HMOs commonly want proof of registration before accrediting a facility. The certificate is a useful document, but it does not guarantee accreditation or any contract.
I haven’t built or rented the facility yet. Can I still register? You need an address in Zamfara State and its LGA for the application. If you are still arranging premises, send the address you plan to use.
Can one name cover a hospital, pharmacy and laboratory? You can describe the business broadly. Each unit still needs its own licence, so confirm those separately.
Do I need a separate registration for a second branch? One registration covers your business as a whole. Facility approvals are usually tied to each premises, so confirm what applies to every location.
What should I write as my nature of business? Keep it simple, for example “hospital and clinic services” or “maternity and general medical care”. Send what you do and we will word it correctly.
Can I use words like “Hospital”, “Clinic” or “Specialist” in my name? CAC restricts some words and we check this during the name search. Send your preferred names and we will tell you what is available.
Can I open a bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for when opening a business account, along with your ID and other details.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number comes with the โฆ35,500.
Are there CAC filings in later years? Registered businesses file annual returns. It is a small, separate step, and we can help when it falls due.
Do you register facilities outside Gusau? Yes. We register businesses across all 14 LGAs in Zamfara State at the same price and turnaround.
Is the price the same in Maradun, Anka or Shinkafi as in Gusau? Yes. โฆ35,500 and 5โ7 working days apply wherever in the state your facility is based.
What if my first-choice name isn’t available? Send a second name and we will check it straight away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many facilities start with a Business Name and convert as partners or investors join. We can help with the conversion.
What documents do I need for a Limited Liability Company? The same basics as for a Business Name, plus the names, ID and details of each director and shareholder.
How do I receive my certificate, and can I print it? It is sent to you as a soft copy on WhatsApp. You can print it locally whenever you need a hard copy.
Ready to begin? Send your business name on WhatsApp โ and we’ll start the name search.
