A freshly painted shop front in Lafia, a POP ceiling going up in Mararaba, a family repainting for Sallah or Christmas, a new estate that needs every room finished: painters, decorators and interior designers in Nasarawa State are rarely short of work, and clients who hand over a deposit like to know who they are paying. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We handle the name search, the filing and the certificate for your painting or decoration business, in any of the state’s 13 local government areas. There’s no extra step hiding behind this: message us your business name, and we take it from there.
Why Nasarawa’s Housing Push Matters to Painters and Decorators
Finishing trades follow construction, and Nasarawa has a lot of it under way. The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria says it has financed 1,590 housing units in the state and disbursed over ₦9.5 billion in Home Renovation Loans to more than 10,600 civil servants. Its first-phase housing projects cover Lafia, Akwanga, Gudi, Keffi and Toto. In September 2026, the Federal Government handed over 129 homes at the Nasarawa Technology Village in Karu and said more units would follow before the end of December. Every finished house needs paint, ceilings and interiors, and every renovation loan is meant to pay for that kind of work.
Paint itself is regulated differently from the work of applying it. The Standards Organisation of Nigeria’s standard NIS 269:2017 sets a 90 ppm limit on lead in paint, and the standard has since been reviewed to add “no added lead” labelling, with campaigners urging buyers to look for it. Clients who care what goes on their walls tend to care who is putting it there. A registered business name on your quotation and receipt is something they can check on CAC’s public register.

Business Name vs. Limited Liability Company
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Individual painters, POP and finishing crews, small decoration studios | Larger finishing contractors, design firms with partners, and operators bidding for estate or institutional work |
For a painter or decorator working under one owner, a Business Name is usually enough to quote, invoice, buy materials and open a bank account. A Limited Liability Company becomes worth considering when you carry a large crew and stock, take on contracts big enough that the client wants a company on the other side, or share the business with partners. Many finishing businesses begin with a Business Name and convert later.
What to Have on Hand
- Two proposed business names, ranked by preference
- A valid means of ID: National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s license
- A passport photograph
- Your business address in Nasarawa State, with the LGA (a workshop, shop or home address is fine)
- A phone number and email address
- Nature of business, described simply, such as “painting and interior decoration” or “POP ceilings, wall finishes and interior design”
- If you choose Limited Liability Company instead: names, ID and details of the directors and shareholders
How We Get You Registered
- Check name availability on CAC’s public search portal, handled by us.
- Reserve the name once it is confirmed available.
- Complete the application using your business, owner and Nasarawa State address details.
- Upload your ID and passport photograph. A phone photo is enough.
- Make the single ₦35,500 payment that covers everything listed above.
- Receive your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report, usually within 5–7 working days.
Beyond that first message and a single payment, there’s nothing left for you to chase up.
Separate From This Registration
CAC registration gives your business its legal name. The items below are separate, and which ones apply depends on the work you do.
- Printed copies of your certificate: it comes as a soft copy on WhatsApp, and you print it locally when you need it
- Standards Organisation of Nigeria requirements if you mix, blend or manufacture your own paints, textures or thinners; buying SON-compliant paint for your jobs is separate from this
- Environmental rules on handling and disposing of paint, solvents and cleaning waste, including those enforced by NESREA where they apply to your activities
- Development control or planning approvals from the relevant state or local authority if your work involves structural alterations, new facades or large external signage
- Approvals for painted signs, murals or outdoor displays on commercial premises, where required
- Contractor or vendor registration with any institution, agency or developer that requires it before awarding finishing work
- Membership of any professional body in interior design or the building trades, which is optional and handled with that body
- Income tax and other tax obligations that apply to your business
- Your business bank account, opened with your chosen bank once your certificate is ready
- Annual returns in later years, a small separate step we can also help with

A Good Finish Is Remembered; the Paperwork Shouldn’t Be
Your work gets judged by what’s visible: the clean line where the wall meets the ceiling, the colour that matches the sample, the gate that hasn’t peeled after one rainy season. The quotes, the colour approvals, the material runs to the paint shop and the final touch-ups take up your days, and none of them leave room for a government portal. Registration is the part of the job nobody sees on the wall. Done once, it gives you a registered name for quotations, receipts, supplier accounts and a business bank account.
Is This Right for Your Business?
We’re not the right fit for everyone, and we’d rather say so — here’s who usually benefits most from working with us:
- You’d rather not work out CAC’s portal while a coat is drying, a client is still choosing a colour and the next site is waiting.
- You can see your business moving from repainting homes and shops to estate finishing, office fit-outs and subcontract work for builders and developers, and you want a registered name to quote and invoice under.
- You want honest advice, not an upsell — if a Business Name covers your stage, that’s what we’ll recommend.
- You’d rather not chase anyone — one message starts it, and the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.
If this describes you, we’d be glad to take the paperwork off your hands.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a painting or decoration business in Nasarawa State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, whichever LGA you work in. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What do I get for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, the government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
Is a Business Name enough for a painter or decorator? For most owner-run painting and decoration businesses, yes. It gives you a registered name to trade under. A company becomes worth considering when you have partners, a large crew or contracts big enough that clients want a company on paper.
Can one registration cover painting, POP ceilings and interior design? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly, such as painting, ceilings and interior decoration, and one registration can cover them together.
Do I need SON approval to paint houses? SON standards mainly apply to paint products and their manufacturers, not to the work of applying paint. If you mix, blend or make your own products, check the SON requirements for them separately.
Will estate developers and contractors ask for proof of registration? Developers, contractors and institutions often ask for it before awarding or paying for work, so the certificate is a useful document to have. It does not guarantee any job.
Will paint suppliers deal with me more readily if I’m registered? Some suppliers and wholesalers prefer or require registered businesses for credit or bulk accounts. It varies by supplier, so ask them directly what they need.
Can I get registered before I start a big job? The usual turnaround is 5–7 working days, so message us early. A backup name helps keep things moving if your first choice is taken.
Do I get a printed certificate? The certificate arrives as a soft copy on WhatsApp, and you print it locally when you need it.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the ₦35,500.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other details.
Do you register businesses outside Lafia? Yes. We register painting and decoration businesses across all 13 LGAs, from Akwanga and Wamba to Karu, Keffi and Toto, at the same price and turnaround.
What if I don’t have a shop, only a workshop or a home address? You need a business address in Nasarawa State, with the LGA, for the application. A workshop or home address is fine if that is where the business is based. Send the address you plan to use.
Do I need a licence to be an interior designer? CAC registration is not a professional licence. Membership of a professional body, if you want it, is handled separately with that body.
When does it make sense to start with a Limited Liability Company? If you are building a larger finishing firm, sharing ownership with partners, or bidding for work where the client requires a company, the Limited Liability Company route is worth considering from the start.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many painting and decoration businesses start with a Business Name and convert as their contracts and crews grow. We can help with the conversion.
What if my proposed name isn’t available? Send a backup name and we will check it straight away. Two or three options ready keeps the process moving.
Do I need to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses have annual returns to file. It is a small, separate step, and we can help with it when the time comes.
Can I register a paint shop or colour-mixing store the same way? Yes. A paint retail business can be registered under a Business Name or a company. Product approvals, if any apply to what you sell or make, are separate.
