A freshly painted room is the best advertisement a decorator has, and in Ondo State that advertisement travels by word of mouth, from a finished sitting room in Akure to a shop front in Owo to a new family house in Okitipupa. Putting your painting or decoration business under a registered name lets that reputation sit on something official: a name for your quotations, invoices, bank account and client conversations. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We handle the name search, the filing and the certificate for you, wherever your business is based in Ondo State. Message us your business name on WhatsApp and we’ll take care of every step that follows.

What Falls Outside This Registration
Painting and decoration is lightly regulated compared with some trades, but a few things sit beside your CAC registration and are handled separately:
- Printed copies of your certificate — you receive a soft copy and print it locally
- Outdoor signage, billboard or wall-advert permits from the Ondo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OSSAA), if your work includes painted outdoor signs for clients
- Building-plan or development approvals from the state Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, which normally attach to the property owner’s project rather than to a repaint
- SON certification, if you manufacture or import paint rather than apply or retail it
- Environmental and waste-handling requirements for solvent-based paints, thinners and used containers
- Safety and insurance arrangements for scaffolding and work at height
- Contractor pre-qualification with public procurement bodies, if you want to bid for government jobs
- Tax obligations that apply to contractors and retailers, including VAT where relevant
- Business bank account opening, done with your chosen bank once your certificate is ready
- Annual returns filing in later years — a small, separate step we can help with when it falls due
Business Name or Limited Liability Company?
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Solo painters, small crews, decorators and single-counter paint shops | Firms taking larger contracts, running several crews or bringing in partners |
For most painters and decorators starting out, a Business Name does the job: it gives your work a proper name on paper. A company structure starts to make sense when your contracts grow large, several people own the business, or a client or investor asks for a company. Plenty of firms begin with a Business Name and convert later.
Documents to Have Ready
- Two proposed business names, in order of preference
- A valid ID — National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s license
- A passport photograph
- Your business address in Ondo State, including the LGA
- Phone number and email address
- A short description of what you do, e.g. “painting, interior and exterior decoration” or “POP, wall finishes and interior design”
- For a Limited Liability Company only: names, ID and details of directors and shareholders
The Registration Timeline
- We check name availability on CAC’s public search portal.
- We reserve the name once it is confirmed available.
- We complete the application with your business and address details.
- You upload your ID and passport photograph — a clear phone photo is enough.
- You pay the ₦35,500, one payment covering everything listed above.
- You receive your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report, usually within 5–7 working days.
You send the details and make one payment; the filing, the follow-up and the certificate are ours to deal with.
Why Ondo’s Rules Matter to a Painting Business
Most of the regulation around painting and decoration comes through your clients’ buildings and through the products you buy, and a few Ondo State and national points are worth knowing.
On the building side, the state’s Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has been vocal about enforcing approved plans. Ondo set up a special court in 2017 to prosecute people who build outside government-approved plans, and more recently began demolishing structures that obstruct drainage channels and government setbacks in Akure. A repaint is a very different job from putting up a new structure, but clients who are extending or finishing a house often bring their painter into a project where approvals matter, and a registered business that can quote and invoice properly is easier for them to deal with.
On the signage side, the state has the Ondo State Signage and Advertisement Agency, set up under the OSSAA Law, 2011. If you paint shop signs, wall branding or billboard faces for clients, confirm with the agency what permit applies before you start. That is separate from CAC registration.
On the product side, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria’s standard limits total lead in paint to 90 parts per million, enforced through SON’s certification of manufacturers. As a painter or paint retailer, you aren’t responsible for certifying paint, but buying from manufacturers who meet the standard protects you and your clients.

You Know Your Walls; We Know the Paperwork
A good painter knows things a client only senses: how many coats a surface really needs, why a colour looks different at noon and at dusk, when a wall is dry enough to take the next layer, and what a rainy-season delay does to an exterior schedule. Time is also spent on the parts clients never see, such as colour-matching at the paint shop, loading ladders and scaffolding, quoting jobs and following up on balances. CAC registration is paperwork that can be handled without a single brush stroke from you. Once it’s done, your work carries a registered name that can appear on quotations, receipts and the paperwork a client or bank asks for.
You’ll Probably Like Working With Us If…
Different business owners want different things from an agent — this is who we serve best:
- You’d rather not spend a wet afternoon figuring out CAC’s portal when you could be between coats on a job, waiting for a ceiling to cure, or travelling to price a new site.
- You’re aiming for bigger jobs — moving from single-house repaints toward estates, hotels, schools or office fit-outs, and you want a registered name to bid and invoice under.
- You want a recommendation that fits your size — not the biggest package by default.
- You want a process without back-and-forth — send your details once, pay once, and there are no surprise charges afterwards.
If that’s the kind of service you want, message us and we’ll begin.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a painting or decoration business in Ondo State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same in every part of Ondo State. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What exactly do I get for ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, the government filing fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
Is a Business Name enough for a painting contractor or decorator? For most solo painters, small crews and decorators, yes. It gives you the registered name you need for quotations, invoices and a business bank account. If your contracts grow or partners join, you can move to a company later.
When should I start with a Limited Liability Company instead? When you plan to take large contracts, run several crews, share ownership with partners or have an investor or client who requires a company. Otherwise the Business Name is usually enough for now.
I do painting, POP, wallpaper and signwriting. Do I register each one separately? No. You can describe your business broadly, for example “painting, interior and exterior decoration”, and one registration covers it.
Does the certificate help me win bigger jobs? Developers, schools, hotels and offices often ask for proof of registration before hiring a contractor, so the certificate is a useful document to have. It does not guarantee any contract.
Can I use it to bid for government work? It is usually one of several documents required. Public procurement bodies often have their own pre-qualification or registration steps, which are separate from CAC. Check the current requirements with the relevant body.
Do I need a permit from OSSAA for painted signs and wall adverts? Ondo State has the Signage and Advertisement Agency under a 2011 law. If your work includes outdoor signs or adverts for clients, confirm with the agency what applies. It is a separate process from CAC registration.
Does registering with CAC mean I can manufacture or import paint? No. Making or importing paint involves SON standards, including the 90 ppm limit on lead, and other requirements beyond CAC. Applying paint or retailing it as a shop is a different matter.
Do I need physical planning approval before I paint a building? Cosmetic repainting is usually a different matter from erecting or extending a building. If a job involves structural changes, the property owner’s approvals from the state Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development matter. If you’re unsure about a particular job, ask the Ministry.
Can a paint shop with a colour-mixing counter register this way? Yes. A retail paint shop can be registered the same way, and you describe the nature of business accordingly, for example “paint retail and colour mixing”.
Do you register businesses outside Akure? Yes. We register painting and decoration businesses in all 23 areas of Ondo State, from Owo and the Akoko areas to Okitipupa, Ilaje and Ese Odo, at the same price and turnaround.
I haven’t rented a workshop or shop yet. Can I still register? You need a business address in Ondo State and its LGA for the application. If you are still arranging premises, send the address you plan to use.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for when opening a business account, along with your ID and other details.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the ₦35,500.
Do I have to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses have annual returns to file. It is a small, separate step, and we can help you with it when it falls due.
What if my first business name isn’t available? Send a backup name and we’ll check it straight away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many decorators and contractors begin with a Business Name and convert once the work grows or partners join. We can assist with the conversion.
