What Falls Outside This Registration
CAC registration gives your business its legal name. The items below are handled by other bodies, or by you:
- A broadcasting licence from the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) if you plan to run a radio or television station, which is a separate process from CAC
- Film classification and registration requirements, if you produce or distribute films and videos — check the current position for your type of work
- Copyright in your own songs, recordings and footage, and licences for any music you play, sell or use from others, handled through the Nigerian Copyright Commission and the relevant rights bodies
- Written agreements with artists, producers, crew and clients, which are your own business to put in place
- Standards, type approval and import clearance for studio and broadcast equipment you bring in from abroad
- Premises, signage and local-authority approvals for your studio, plus any council levies
- Your duties under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 if you collect audience, subscriber or client details
- Printed copies of your certificate, which arrives as a soft copy and can be printed at any shop
- Opening a business bank account, done with your bank once the certificate is in hand
- Annual returns to CAC in later years — a small, separate step we can also help with when it falls due
Business Name or Limited Liability Company?
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Solo artists, home studios, small production crews and content creators | Labels, production companies, broadcasters and creative ventures with partners or investors |
If you are a solo artist, a home-studio owner or a small crew, a Business Name usually covers what you need: a legal name for invoices, sponsor deals and a bank account. A Limited Liability Company is the better choice when several people share ownership, when you are signing artists or taking on larger contracts, or when investors are involved, since the business becomes its own legal person apart from you. Starting small and upgrading later is a common path.
Documents to Have Ready
- Two business names, listed in order of preference
- A valid ID — National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s licence
- A passport photograph
- Your business address in Nasarawa State, including the LGA
- A phone number and email address
- A short description of what you do — for instance, “music production and recording studio” or “video production and media services”
- If you choose a Limited Liability Company instead: the names, IDs and details of the directors and shareholders
The Registration Timeline
- We look up your name on CAC’s public register to confirm it is free.
- We reserve it once it is confirmed.
- We complete and file the application with your business and Nasarawa address details.
- You send your ID and passport photograph — a phone picture is fine.
- You make one payment of ₦35,500, covering everything above.
- Your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report reach you, normally within 5–7 working days.
No queues, no portal logins, no follow-ups: you provide the details and the payment, and we do the rest.
Nasarawa’s Broadcasting Roots and New Media Businesses
Nasarawa State was created in October 1996, carved out of Plateau, and its public broadcaster came soon after. The Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS) was established by a state edict, Edict No. 19 of 1998, with a first batch of 101 staff transferred from the Plateau Radio Television Corporation. Its radio arm broadcasts on 97.1 FM from Lafia, it also has a television arm, and the station operates under licences from the National Broadcasting Commission.
That history shows what a media business in Nasarawa can build on, and where the paperwork divides. If you want to operate a station of your own, the broadcasting licence comes from NBC and CAC registration does not replace it. If you produce music, videos, shows or online content for artists, sponsors and clients, then your first practical document is a registered business name, because sponsors and venues usually pay against an invoice from a named business. A CAC certificate, a TIN and a status report give you that. They do not register your songs or footage for copyright, and they do not license the music you play, so deal with those separately.
Registering Media and Music Businesses Across Nasarawa State
The price, requirements and turnaround are the same wherever you work. We cover all 13 LGAs.
- Lafia — the state capital and base of NBS radio and television, with studios, photographers and production crews
- Keffi — studios, DJs and content businesses in the home of NBS’s sister station
- Karu — creative businesses in busy areas such as Mararaba, close to the Federal Capital Territory
- Akwanga, Nasarawa Egon, Wamba, Kokona, Nasarawa and Toto — local artists, producers, DJs and content teams across the northern and western towns
- Doma, Keana, Obi and Awe — studios, sound crews and creators in the southern and eastern communities
If you work from anywhere in Nasarawa State, you can register without travelling.
Creative Work Doesn’t Wait for Paperwork
Creative businesses run on deadlines that don’t move: a mix that must be exported tonight, a shoot booked for Saturday, an artist who needs a master before a release date, a show that has to go out on schedule. Studio sessions, edits, client calls and chasing payments leave little room for learning a government portal. Registering the business name is the one job on that list we can lift off you entirely. After it is done, your work carries a name that appears on invoices, sponsorship proposals and bank forms.
This Might Be a Great Fit If…
We’re not the right fit for everyone, and we’d rather say so — here’s who usually benefits most from working with us:
- You’d rather not be reading CAC’s portal between a studio session, an edit that has to export tonight and a client waiting on a mix — you want the paperwork finished while the work carries on.
- You’re planning where the brand goes next — from a home studio or one-person camera business to a production company, sponsored shows, or a label with a roster — and you want a registered name to build under.
- You prefer being told what you actually need — if the Business Name does the job today, we’ll leave the company route for when it’s worth it.
- You want things kept simple — your details, one payment, your certificate.
If that’s the kind of service you want, message us and we’ll begin.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a music or media business in Nasarawa State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, in any of the 13 LGAs. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What comes with the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, CAC’s government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
Is a Business Name enough for a studio, production crew or solo artist? For most individuals and small teams, yes. It gives you the legal name and registration to start. If you are signing artists, sharing ownership or bringing in investors, a Limited Liability Company may suit you better, and you can convert later.
Does CAC registration give me a licence to broadcast? No. Running a radio or television station needs a licence from the National Broadcasting Commission. CAC registration gives your business its legal name, TIN and status report.
Does registering my business protect my songs or videos? No. Copyright in your recordings and footage is a separate matter handled through the Nigerian Copyright Commission and the rights bodies, and licences for other people’s music are separate too.
Can I register a studio and a video business under one name? Yes. Describe the business broadly, such as “music production, video and media services”. Anything specific to a regulator is handled separately.
Do you register businesses outside Lafia, Karu and Keffi? Yes. We cover all 13 LGAs, from Akwanga and Wamba to Obi and Awe, at the same price and turnaround.
What if my first-choice name isn’t available? Send a backup name and we’ll check it straight away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.
