Plastic and polythene is a trade that touches almost every household and market stall in Taraba State: buckets and basins, jerrycans and kegs, nylon rolls and carrier bags, pipes, bottles and packaging film. Whether you run a moulding machine, cut and seal nylon, resell household plastics from a shop in Jalingo or collect and sort plastic scrap, trading under a registered name makes the business easier to deal with for suppliers, buyers and banks. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We run the name search, the filing and the certificate for you, from anywhere in the state. One WhatsApp message with your business name is all it takes — we manage the rest.
A Polythene Rule Worth Knowing About in Taraba
In May 2019, then-Governor Darius Ishaku announced a ban on polythene and plastic bags in Taraba State. He said emphasis would shift from non-degradable polythene and plastic to biodegradable materials such as paper bags, and that he would send an executive bill to the State House of Assembly to give the ban legal force. He made the announcement while launching the state’s water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) policy. Whether that bill was later passed, and how the ban is enforced today, is something to confirm with the state’s environment authorities before you plan a production run of carrier bags.
The trade is much wider than bags, though. Buckets, bowls, jerrycans, pipes, bottles, packaging film and moulded household goods all sit under plastic and polythene, and each has its own buyers. Whichever part of it you work in, a registered business name is the same first step, and it is separate from any rule on what you make.

Choosing Your Structure: Business Name or LLC
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | Small moulding or nylon-bag operations, market traders and plastic-scrap dealers | Manufacturers with machinery and stock to protect, partners, or buyers who expect a company |
If you are a one-person or small-crew operation, a Business Name will usually give you what you need: a legal name, a status report and an account in that name. A Limited Liability Company starts to earn its higher price once you are carrying machinery, raw-material stock or a loan, or when partners or larger buyers come into the picture, because the business is then kept apart from your personal assets. Some owners begin with the Business Name and convert when production grows.
Documents to Have Ready
- Two business names, with your first choice listed first
- A valid ID — National ID (NIN), international passport, or driver’s license
- A passport photograph
- Your business address in Taraba State, with its LGA
- A phone number and an email address
- What the business does, in plain words — for example “manufacture and sale of plastic and polythene products” or “plastic household goods retail”
- For a Limited Liability Company only: the names, ID and details of every director and shareholder
The Registration Timeline
- Name check: we search CAC’s public portal to see whether your name is free.
- Name reservation: once it clears, we hold it for you.
- Application: we fill in the form with your business, owner and Taraba address details.
- Your documents: you send your ID and passport photograph, and a clear phone picture works.
- Payment: you make one payment of ₦35,500, which covers the filing fee and our service together.
- Delivery: your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report reach you, usually within 5–7 working days.
Beyond that first message and a single payment, there’s nothing left for you to chase up.
What Falls Outside This Registration
- Printed copies of your certificate, since it arrives as a soft copy and can be printed locally whenever you need it
- Product certification from the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), whose Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) is the mandatory certification scheme for locally manufactured products
- NAFDAC requirements where your goods are involved in food, water or drink packaging. If you make sachets or bottles for beverages, note that NAFDAC’s ban on alcoholic drinks in sachets and PET/plastic bottles below 200ml has been in effect since 1 January 2026
- Environmental requirements for your factory, workshop or scrap yard, which can involve NESREA and the state’s environmental authorities, together with the current position on the state’s polythene-bag ban
- Approvals for the building or yard where you operate, including fire-safety arrangements for stored resin, rolls and finished goods
- Customs and import requirements if you bring in resin, machines or finished plastic goods
- State and federal tax obligations that apply to your business
- Business bank account opening, done with your chosen bank once your certificate is in hand
- Annual returns in later years, a small separate step we can help with when the time comes

Extruders, Moulds and Deliveries Keep You Busy; Paperwork Shouldn’t
A plastics business is a business of machine hours. A film line has to keep running, a mould has to be changed before the next order, resin has to arrive before the hopper empties, and a truck is waiting for the finished goods. Retailers have a different version of the same day, with stock to count, customers at the counter and suppliers to pay. Registering the business name is one job on that list that can leave your hands completely. Afterwards, your quotations, invoices and bank paperwork carry a recognised name, and a buyer who asks who is supplying them has a clear answer.
Is This Right for Your Business?
Before you decide, here’s an honest look at who gets the most from our service:
- Your day runs on machine hours — a film line that shouldn’t sit idle, a mould change, a truck waiting at the gate — and CAC’s portal is the last thing you want to open at the end of a shift.
- You’re looking past walk-in sales — towards supplying wholesalers, water producers and packaging buyers, or adding a second product line such as bottles, pipes or rolls, and you want a registered name to supply under.
- You prefer being told what you actually need — if the Business Name does the job today, we’ll leave the company route for when it’s worth it.
- You’d rather not chase anyone — one message starts it, and the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.
If this describes you, we’d be glad to take the paperwork off your hands.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a plastic or polythene business in Taraba State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same in every LGA. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What does the ₦35,500 cover? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, the government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
How long does it take? Usually 5–7 working days once your details and payment are in.
Is a Business Name enough for a small moulding or nylon-bag business? For most owner-run operations, yes. It gives you a registered name to trade, invoice and bank under.
When should a plastics manufacturer start as a Limited Liability Company? When you are carrying machinery, raw-material stock or a loan, when partners share ownership, or when larger buyers or an investor expect a company structure.
I make plastic products and also sell them. Can one registration cover both? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly, such as “manufacture and sale of plastic and polythene products,” and it can cover making and selling.
I only buy and resell plastic goods. Can I still register? Yes. Describe the business as trading in plastic goods and it is registered the same way.
Does CAC registration replace SON or NAFDAC requirements? No. CAC registers your business name. Product certification from SON and any NAFDAC requirements for goods connected to food, water or drink are separate steps that sit with those agencies.
Is there a ban on polythene bags in Taraba State? A ban was announced in 2019 and was meant to be backed by a bill to the State House of Assembly. We can’t confirm how it is enforced today, so check with the state’s environment authorities before planning bag production. It has no bearing on your ability to register a business name.
Can I register a plastic recycling or scrap-collection business? Yes. Describe it plainly, for example “collection and sale of plastic scrap.” Environmental approvals for your yard or processing site are a separate matter.
I don’t have a factory or shop yet. Can I still register? You need an address and its LGA for the application, so send the one you plan to use, whether that is a home, a rented space or a planned site.
Do I need to be in Jalingo to register? No. Any of Taraba’s sixteen LGAs works.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number comes with the ₦35,500.
How will I get the certificate? As a soft copy on WhatsApp, which you can print locally when you need a hard copy.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other details.
What if my proposed name is taken? Send a backup and we will check it straight away. That is why the application asks for two names.
Will the certificate help me supply wholesalers or larger buyers? Buyers and organisations often ask for proof of registration before ordering regularly, so the certificate is a useful document to hold. It does not guarantee any order.
Do I have to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses file annual returns. It is a small, separate step, and we can help when it falls due.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. We can assist with the conversion if the business outgrows its first structure.
