What’s Included in the ₦35,500

Your ₦35,500 covers CAC’s government fee and our service fee together. The Limited Liability Company option, if you’d rather register as a company, is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.

What’s Not Usually Included

CAC registration gives your business its legal name. The items below are separate, and which of them apply depends on what you cook, where you serve it and how you sell it.

Business Name vs. Limited Liability Company

Best forSingle restaurants, buka and canteen operators, small caterers, food stallsMulti-branch restaurants, larger caterers with staff and equipment, and operators with partners or investors

For a single restaurant, a canteen or a small catering outfit run by one owner, a Business Name is usually enough to invoice, buy supplies and bank your takings. A Limited Liability Company becomes worth considering when you open several branches, take on a large staff and kitchen equipment, bring in partners or investors, or serve institutions that prefer to contract with a company. Many food businesses begin with a Business Name and convert later.

Requirements for CAC Registration in Nasarawa State

  1. Two proposed business names, ranked by preference
  2. A valid means of ID: National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s license
  3. A passport photograph
  4. Your business address in Nasarawa State, with the LGA (a restaurant, kitchen, stall or home address is fine)
  5. A phone number and email address
  6. Nature of business, described simply, such as “restaurant and catering services” or “event catering and food delivery”
  7. If you choose Limited Liability Company instead: names, ID and details of the directors and shareholders

Step-by-Step: How Little This Actually Takes

  1. Check name availability on CAC’s public search portal, which we handle for you.
  2. Reserve the name once it is confirmed available.
  3. Complete the application with your business, owner and Nasarawa State address details.
  4. Upload your ID and passport photograph. A clear phone photo is enough.
  5. Make one ₦35,500 payment covering everything listed above.
  6. Receive your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report, normally within 5–7 working days.

Beyond that first message and a single payment, there’s nothing left for you to chase up.

Where the Ingredients Come From: Nasarawa’s Farms and Factories

Nasarawa is described as one of Nigeria’s leading producers of rice, maize, sesame, cassava, yam, soybean and groundnuts, so kitchens here work close to the source of many staple ingredients. The state has also been drawing industrial investment. A July 2026 BusinessDay report said the launch of a large lithium processing plant had accelerated the state’s industrial ambitions, with investment commitments of more than $1.2 billion and further projects in rice milling, sesame processing and flour production. Factories, construction sites, institutions and growing towns all need feeding, and the people who cook for them can find regular business supplying canteens, offices and sites, not only walk-in customers. Organisations that buy meals in volume often prefer to deal with a registered business, and the certificate is something they can check on CAC’s public register.

A Kitchen Runs on a Clock Nobody Sets for You

The gas has to last until closing, the market run happens before anyone else is awake, the lunch rush will not wait, and the catering order for Saturday has been confirmed with two days’ notice. Your hours are fixed by hunger, and paperwork finds no gap in them. Registration is one of the few tasks on your list that can be done once, outside the kitchen, and then left. After that, your business has a registered name for receipts, supplier accounts, bulk orders and the bank.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does CAC registration cost for a restaurant or catering business in Nasarawa State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, whichever LGA you are in. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.

What do I get for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, the government fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.

Is a Business Name enough for a restaurant or caterer? For most owner-run restaurants, canteens and small catering outfits, yes. It gives you a registered name to trade under. A company structure is worth considering when you have several branches, partners, investors or large institutional clients.

Can one registration cover a restaurant, catering and event cooking? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly, such as restaurant, catering and food delivery, and one registration can cover them together.

Do I need NAFDAC registration to run a restaurant? CAC registration does not replace NAFDAC requirements. NAFDAC’s food hygiene guidelines apply to food businesses, and registration is needed for packaged food or drink sold under your own label. Check NAFDAC’s current requirements for what you actually make and sell.

Do my staff and I need food handler’s medical certificates? These certificates are handled separately, with the state health authorities or a recognised health facility. They are not part of CAC registration, so ask the relevant authority what applies to your premises.

Can I register a buka, roadside stall or food cart? Yes. Any food business with an address in Nasarawa State can be registered as a Business Name, whether it is a buka, a stall, a cart or a restaurant. Any permits for the spot you trade from are separate.

Can I register a delivery-only or cloud kitchen? Yes. A kitchen that cooks only for phone, WhatsApp or app orders can be registered the same way. Your kitchen premises may still need their own approvals.

Will offices, schools or organisers ask for proof of registration? Organisations that buy meals in volume often ask suppliers for proof of registration before ordering regularly or paying invoices, so the certificate is a useful document to have. It does not guarantee any contract.

I haven’t opened yet. Can I register now? You need a business address in Nasarawa State, with the LGA, for the application. If you are still arranging premises, send the address you plan to use, and start early because the usual turnaround is 5–7 working days.

What if I cook from home and have no shop? A home address is fine if that is where the business is based. Send the address you plan to use.

How long does it take? Usually 5–7 working days from the point you pay. A backup name helps if your first choice is taken.

Do I get a printed certificate? The certificate arrives as a soft copy on WhatsApp, and you print it locally when you need it.

Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the ₦35,500.

Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other details, and many food businesses use it to set up accounts and card or transfer payments.

Do you register businesses outside Lafia and Karu? Yes. We register food businesses across all 13 LGAs, from Akwanga and Wamba to Keana and Toto, at the same price and turnaround.

What if I also sell drinks or alcohol? Describe your activity broadly when you register. Liquor licensing is handled separately and is not part of CAC registration.

When does it make sense to start with a Limited Liability Company? If you are opening several branches, bringing in partners or investors, or an institution or client requires a company structure, the Limited Liability Company route is worth considering from day one.

Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many food businesses start with a Business Name and convert as the business grows. We can help with the conversion.

What if my proposed name isn’t available? Send a backup name and we will check it straight away. Two or three options ready keeps things moving.

Do I need to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses have annual returns to file. It is a small, separate step, and we can help with it when the time comes.
