In Ondo State, a good food business is built on regulars: the office workers who come back to the same buka for amala and ewedu, the family that books you for a naming ceremony, the traveller who remembers where the rice and stew was worth the stop. Putting your restaurant or catering business under a registered name gives that trust something official to stand on. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent. We handle the name search, the filing and the certificate for you, wherever your kitchen is in Ondo State. All we need to begin is your business name on WhatsApp; the rest we carry from there.
Why Cleanliness Rules Matter to Ondo’s Food Businesses
For a restaurant or caterer in Ondo State, the paperwork that usually matters most after CAC registration is about sanitation. The Ondo State Waste Management Authority has shown it will act on hygiene: in September 2021 it sealed a supermarket building and a neighbourhood market in Akure over unsanitary practices, after sealing five other buildings in the preceding weeks. The state also runs a monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Akure, and people have been arrested during it for breaching the state’s sanitation law.
None of that is specific to food, but a kitchen produces waste, grease and dishwater every day, so food businesses are never far from it. Registration with CAC is a different step from meeting those rules. It does not replace them, and meeting them does not replace registration. What it does is give your business a legal name that you can use when dealing with landlords, suppliers, banks and any inspector who asks who runs the place.

|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive cost | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Personal liability protection | No | Yes |
| Documents received | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Best for | A single restaurant, buka or small caterer run by an owner-operator | Multi-outlet restaurants, institutional caterers and businesses with co-owners |
A Business Name is enough for most food businesses starting out. It gives you a proper name for your signboard paperwork, supplier accounts and bank account. A company starts to make sense when you open several outlets, bring in partners, or take on large contracts where the client expects a company on the other side. Many food businesses register a Business Name first and convert later.
What to Have on Hand
- Two proposed business names, in order of preference
- A valid ID — National ID (NIN), international passport or driver’s license
- A passport photograph
- Your business address in Ondo State, with the LGA
- Phone number and email address
- A short description of what you do, e.g. “restaurant and catering services” or “buka, event catering and food delivery”
- For a Limited Liability Company only: names, ID and details of directors and shareholders
How We Get You Registered
- We check name availability on CAC’s public search portal.
- We reserve the name once it is confirmed available.
- We complete the application with your business and address details.
- You upload your ID and passport photograph — a phone photo works.
- You pay the ₦35,500, a single payment covering everything above.
- You receive your Certificate of Registration, TIN and Status Report, usually within 5–7 working days.
Only the first message and the single payment come from you; the rest of the six steps happen out of your sight.
Separate From This Registration
Food is one of the more regulated trades, so expect these to sit alongside your CAC registration:
- Printed copies of your certificate — you receive a soft copy and print it locally
- Health and hygiene inspection of your premises by the relevant environmental health or health authority, and medical screening for staff who handle food where it is required
- Compliance with the Ondo State Waste Management Authority and the state’s environmental sanitation rules for waste, drainage and cleanliness around your premises
- NAFDAC requirements, if you package, bottle or label food products for sale (such as sauces, snacks or drinks) rather than only serving meals
- Liquor, entertainment or similar approvals if your restaurant serves alcohol or has a bar or live music
- Fire-safety, gas and kitchen safety arrangements for your premises
- Signage permits from the Ondo State Signage and Advertisement Agency for outdoor signboards or billboards, where they apply
- State and federal tax obligations for food businesses, including VAT where relevant
- Business bank account opening, done with your chosen bank once your certificate is ready
- Annual returns filing in later years — a small, separate step we can help with when it falls due

Your Pot Is on by Dawn; Your Paperwork Shouldn’t Be
Food businesses run on a clock that other businesses don’t: stock bought before the market gets busy, the pot on the fire early, the gas running low at the worst moment, a power cut in the middle of a rush, and a full table at one o’clock that doesn’t care what else went wrong that day. Between buying, cooking, serving and cleaning up, there is rarely a free hour to learn CAC’s portal. This is the one part of the business we can lift off you completely, and once it’s done, your restaurant or catering outfit has a registered name to put on invoices for event bookings, supplier accounts and bank forms.
Is This Right for Your Business?
Before you decide, here’s an honest look at who gets the most from our service:
- You’d rather not work out CAC’s portal between the lunch rush and the evening restock, with the market run, the gas refill and tomorrow’s menu all waiting.
- You want to grow beyond one counter — a second outlet, event catering for weddings and ceremonies, or supplying a staff canteen or school — and you want a registered name to quote and invoice under.
- You want honest advice, not an upsell — if a Business Name covers your stage, that’s what we’ll recommend.
- You’d rather not chase anyone — one message starts it, and the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.
If this describes you, we’d be glad to take the paperwork off your hands.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a restaurant or catering business in Ondo State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name, the same in every part of Ondo State. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What do I get for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, the government filing fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
Is a Business Name enough for a restaurant or buka? For most owner-run restaurants and small caterers, yes. It gives you the registered name you need for your bank account, suppliers and bookings.
When would a Limited Liability Company make more sense? When you plan several outlets, have partners sharing ownership, or expect to handle large institutional contracts. Otherwise a Business Name usually does the job for now.
Can I register a restaurant and event catering under one name? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly, for example “restaurant and event catering services”.
Does CAC registration replace a health or hygiene inspection? No. Food premises are inspected by the relevant health and environmental authorities, and some require staff medical screening. That is separate from your CAC registration.
Does the Ondo State Waste Management Authority have anything to do with my restaurant? The Authority has sealed premises in Akure for unsanitary practices, so food businesses should keep waste and drainage in order. Its rules are separate from CAC registration.
Do I need NAFDAC registration? NAFDAC rules mainly concern packaged and labelled food products. If you only cook and serve meals, that is a different matter, but if you pack sauces, snacks or drinks for sale, check NAFDAC’s current requirements.
Can I serve alcohol with a registered Business Name? Registration gives you the legal name, but selling alcohol or running a bar or entertainment space can need separate approvals. Check what applies to your premises.
Will the certificate help me win catering contracts? Offices, schools and event organisers often ask for proof of registration before hiring a caterer, so the certificate is a useful document. It does not guarantee any contract.
I cook from home or run a cloud kitchen. Can I still register? Yes. You need an address in Ondo State and its LGA for the application. Send the address you plan to use.
Do you register businesses outside Akure? Yes. We register restaurants and caterers in all 23 areas of Ondo State, from Owo and the Akoko areas to Okitipupa, Ilaje and Ese Odo, at the same price and turnaround.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for when opening a business account, along with your ID and other details.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the ₦35,500.
Do I have to file anything with CAC in later years? Registered businesses have annual returns to file. It is a small, separate step, and we can help when it falls due.
What if my first business name isn’t available? Send a backup name and we’ll check it straight away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many food businesses begin with a Business Name and convert once they grow or take on partners. We can assist with the conversion.
Can I register a canteen that operates inside a school or office? Yes. Use the address you operate from, and describe the business as, for example, “canteen and catering services”. The host organisation may have its own requirements for vendors.
Do I need a signboard permit before I put up my restaurant’s sign? Ondo State has the Signage and Advertisement Agency under a 2011 law. If your restaurant will have an outdoor signboard or advert, confirm with the agency what applies. It is separate from CAC registration.
