Solar installers, inverter and battery dealers, solar street-light fitters and backup-power technicians in Rivers State sell something people notice the moment it fails: electricity. The business behind those systems is easier to trust when it trades under a registered name. Onelove Business Ventures is an accredited CAC agent, and we register solar and power businesses anywhere in the state, from Port Harcourt’s showrooms to the island and creek towns.
A Business Name costs ₦35,500, all-inclusive, with CAC’s filing fee and our service fee in one figure. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive. Either way, the certificate arrives in 5–7 working days. Message us your business name on WhatsApp and the registration is in motion — we carry it from there.

Who Regulates Power in Rivers State Is Still in Transition
Solar sits inside a bigger question in Rivers: who regulates electricity? Under the Electricity Act 2023, states can regulate their own electricity markets, and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has been handing oversight to states that pass a law, set up a regulator and formally notify it. In July 2026 NERC’s chairman said 16 states had received transfers. A Leadership report from around August 2026 said Rivers, Delta and Osun had taken preliminary steps, including passing state electricity laws and setting up planning structures, but had not yet received a transfer order.
Rivers is served by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED), which also covers Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom, and NERC issued an order in 2025 on the delineation of PHED’s assets and liabilities as part of that restructuring. NERC’s order notes that where a state has no legal and institutional framework in place, the Commission keeps regulatory powers over mini-grids and similar projects.
What does that mean for a solar business? The answer to “who licenses a mini-grid or a large installation here” can change, so confirm the current position before you build or bid. This was the situation as of the August 2026 report, and it may have moved since. CAC registration is not a power licence. It gives your business a legal name and identity, which regulators, distributors and clients usually want to see first.

What’s Not Usually Included
Registering the name is one step. Solar and power work comes with other obligations, and these are separate from your ₦35,500:
- Printed copies of your certificate — we send a soft copy, and you print it locally whenever it suits you
- Licences or permits for generation, mini-grid or distribution activity from whichever regulator holds authority in Rivers at the time — check the current position
- Approvals for connecting to the grid from the distribution company, if your system will be grid-tied
- Approvals or registration with the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency where they apply to your installation or electrical work
- Standards and customs requirements for panels, inverters, batteries and cables, including duties on imported equipment
- Building, roof and structural approvals for installations on client properties
- Electrical, fire and work-at-height safety for installation jobs
- Handling and disposal of used batteries and electronic waste
- Client contracts, warranties and maintenance agreements, which you arrange yourself
- State and federal tax obligations that apply to your business
- A business bank account, which you open with your bank once the certificate is in hand
- Annual returns in later years — a small, separate step we can help with when the time comes
What’s Included in the ₦35,500
One payment of ₦35,500 covers all of the following for a Rivers State solar or power business. Nothing is added later. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, also all-inclusive.
- A check that your preferred business name is available
- Reservation of the name once it clears
- Preparation and submission of your CAC Business Name application
- CAC’s government filing fee
- Your Certificate of Registration (soft copy)
- Your Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- A CAC Status Report showing your business as active on the register
Business Name or Limited Liability Company?
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| Price (all-inclusive) | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Protects personal assets | No | Yes |
| Documents you receive | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Usually suits | Solo installers, small teams, dealers and repair technicians | Firms bidding for estate or commercial contracts, mini-grid developers, or those with partners or investors |
A Business Name is usually enough for a solo installer, a small team, a dealer or a repair technician. It gives you a registered name for quotations, invoices and a bank account. A company starts to make sense when you take on larger commercial or estate projects, hold significant stock, plan shared-power projects, or bring in partners and investors. Regulators may also set their own requirements for the legal form of anyone applying for a generation or mini-grid permit, so check those before choosing. Many owners register a Business Name first and convert later.

Quotes, Stock and Rooftops
Between pricing a system, chasing a supplier whose inverters are late, climbing up to check a mounting and answering a customer whose battery light is blinking, a solar business never has a quiet hour. Customers judge you by whether the lights stay on, not by how neat your own paperwork is. That is why registration tends to slip down the list. It is also a task that can leave your hands completely. Once it is done, your quotations, warranty notes and supplier accounts can carry a registered name that customers and suppliers are able to check.
Is This Right for Your Business?
Before you decide, here’s an honest look at who gets the most from our service:
- Your week is roof surveys, panel deliveries and battery swaps — daylight is for working outside, not for sitting at a portal.
- You are growing from single-home inverter jobs towards estates, hotels, schools or small commercial sites, or towards hybrid systems for businesses that want to cut back on generator use.
- You want a recommendation that fits your size — not the biggest package by default.
- You’d rather not chase anyone — one message starts it, and the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.
If any of that rings true, you’re likely a good match for how we work.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a solar or power business in Rivers State? A Business Name is ₦35,500, all-inclusive, wherever in the state you operate. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500, all-inclusive.
What is included in the price? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC application, CAC’s filing fee, your Certificate of Registration (soft copy), a TIN and a CAC Status Report.
How long does it take? Usually 5–7 working days once your details are in and payment is made.
Is a Business Name enough for a solar installer or dealer? For most solo installers, small teams and dealers, yes. It gives you a registered name and identity to trade under. Equipment standards and electrical approvals are handled separately.
Do solar installers need to register? We are not lawyers, so we cannot advise on what any particular job requires. What we can say is that a registered name lets you issue quotations and invoices in your business’s name, and estates, companies and institutions often ask for proof of registration before awarding installation work. It does not guarantee any job.
Does CAC registration give me a power or mini-grid licence? No. Licences or permits for generation, mini-grids or distribution come from the electricity regulator that has authority in Rivers at the time, and that position is changing. Check the current requirements before you plan a project.
Can one name cover selling and installing? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly, such as supply and installation of solar and power systems, and one registration can cover it.
I install solar street lights and community systems. Can I register? Yes. Describe the work in the nature of business. Any approvals the projects need are separate from CAC registration.
Do you register businesses outside Port Harcourt, such as in Bonny, Omoku or Ahoada? Yes. We register solar and power businesses across Rivers State at the same price and turnaround.
Should a mini-grid or generation project start as a Limited Liability Company? It can be worth considering, because regulators may set requirements for applicants and the project may involve partners or investors. Confirm the requirements with the regulator before choosing.
When does a Limited Liability Company make sense, and can I upgrade later? A company is worth considering from the start if you plan larger commercial contracts, shared ownership or an investor. Otherwise, many owners register a Business Name first and convert as the business grows. We can help with that conversion.
Will the certificate help with supplier accounts? Suppliers and distributors may ask for registered business details before opening a trade account, so the certificate is a useful document to have. It does not guarantee credit or any particular terms.
I work from home and have no shop. Can I still register? You need a business address in Rivers State and the LGA for the application. If you do not have premises yet, send the address you plan to use.
What if my preferred business name is taken? Send a second or third option and we will check it right away. Having backups ready keeps things moving.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for when opening a business account, along with your ID and other details.
Is there anything to file with CAC in later years? Registered businesses have annual returns to file. It is a small, separate step, and we can help when the time comes.
