Yar-Dole, SONCAP and the Stock on Your Shelf
Two things stand out for a parts dealer in Zamfara. First, the Yar-Dole motorcycle market in Gusau has been described as a major hub for motorcycles and spare parts in the state. In December 2024 a fire tore through it, burning many shops and stalls, and the cause was unknown at the time of the report. We have not confirmed the aftermath, but it is a reminder that insurance and fire safety belong on every parts dealer’s list, however small the shop.
Second, there is the question of genuine versus fake parts. The Standards Organisation of Nigeria runs SONCAP, under which imported products that SON has declared compulsory need certification before shipment, and each shipment needs a SONCAP certificate for clearance. Auto spare parts such as brake pads, shock absorbers, fan belts, safety belts and spark plugs are on the regulated list, as are motorcycle tyres. That duty falls mainly on importers, but a dealer who sells poor parts carries the safety and reputation risk. In Lagos, the Auto Spare Parts and Machinery Dealers Association said in 2024 that it partners with SON against fake parts, including a permanent SON office in its market. We found no Zamfara-specific equivalent, so ask your suppliers for proof of conformity and confirm current rules with SON. CAC registration does not certify your stock; it gives your shop a registered name that suppliers, banks and corporate buyers can recognise.
Outside the Scope of This Registration
- Printed copies of your certificate (you receive a soft copy and can print it locally whenever you like)
- SON and SONCAP requirements for imported parts, which fall mainly on importers and their suppliers
- Import and customs matters if you bring in stock yourself, including duties, clearance and clearing agents
- Distributor or dealer agreements with manufacturers if you sell branded parts as an authorised seller
- Shop or stall approvals, local-government permits, and any market-association dues or fees
- Fire-safety arrangements and business insurance for a shop that stocks oils, batteries, tyres and other flammable or bulky stock
- Environmental requirements for handling used oil, batteries or old parts, if your business takes returns
- State and federal tax obligations that apply to your business (your TIN is included, but filing is separate)
- Business bank account opening, which you do with your chosen bank once the certificate is in hand
- Annual returns in later years — a small, separate step we can help with when the time comes
Business Name or Limited Liability Company for a Parts Business?
| Business Name | Limited Liability Company | |
|---|---|---|
| Price (all-inclusive) | ₦35,500 | ₦65,500 |
| Protects personal assets? | No | Yes |
| What you receive | Certificate + Status Report + TIN | Certificate + Status Report + Memart + TIN |
| Typically suits | Single shops, motorcycle and tyre dealers, and small wholesalers | Larger parts dealers, importers and distributors, and businesses with partners or investors |
A Business Name is usually enough when you run a shop or stall under your own name and need a registered name for receipts, supplier accounts and a bank account. A Limited Liability Company is worth considering when your stock and turnover grow, you share ownership, or you work with investors or large suppliers, since the business then stands apart from your personal assets. Many dealers start with a Business Name and upgrade later.
Registering Parts Dealers Across All 14 Zamfara LGAs
The price, documents and turnaround are the same wherever your shop is. We register spare-parts businesses in every Local Government Area of Zamfara State:
The capital
- Gusau — the state capital and home of the Yar-Dole motorcycle and spare-parts market, with shops, stalls and wholesale suppliers
Central LGAs
- Bungudu, Maru and Chafe (also spelled Tsafe) — parts shops, tyre dealers and motorcycle-parts sellers in the town centres
Northern LGAs
- Kaura Namoda and Zurmi — parts dealers and wholesalers in busy local centres
- Shinkafi and Birnin Magaji/Kiyaw — small shops and motorcycle- and tricycle-parts sellers
Western towns
- Talata Mafara, Bakura and Maradun — parts shops and tyre sellers serving local traffic
Southern towns
- Gummi, Bukkuyum and Anka — general parts shops, oil sellers and used-parts dealers
If your shop is anywhere in Zamfara State, you’re covered.
A Counter That Never Really Closes
A parts counter rarely gets a quiet moment: a mechanic arrives holding a worn brake pad and wants to know if you have the match, a customer is comparing prices, a supplier is waiting on payment, and the stock sheet is behind. You also have to be sure that what you sell is what the box claims. Registering the business name is one job you can take off that list completely. Once it is done, your shop trades under a recognised name on receipts, supplier invoices and bank paperwork.
Is This Right for Your Business?
Different business owners want different things from an agent — this is who we serve best:
- Your counter never really closes — a mechanic holding a worn brake pad, a customer comparing prices, a supplier waiting on payment — and there’s no gap in that rhythm for CAC’s portal.
- You’re planning to move beyond retail — supplying other shops and workshops as a wholesaler, stocking a wider range for trucks and buses, or opening a second outlet in another town.
- You want honest advice, not an upsell — if a Business Name covers your stage, that’s what we’ll recommend.
- You’d rather not chase anyone — one message starts it, and the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.
If that sounds like how you like to do business, you’ll probably enjoy working with us.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CAC registration cost for a spare-parts business in Zamfara State? ₦35,500 all-inclusive for a Business Name. A Limited Liability Company is ₦65,500 all-inclusive.
What do I get for the ₦35,500? The name search and reservation, the completed CAC filing, the government fee, your Certificate of Registration as a soft copy, a TIN and a CAC Status Report. Nothing is charged after the payment.
How long does registration take? Usually 5–7 working days once your details and payment are in.
Is the price the same in every LGA? Yes. The price, documents and turnaround are identical anywhere in Zamfara State.
Is a Business Name enough for a spare-parts shop? For most owner-run shops and stalls, yes. It gives you the registered name you need to start. Standards, import and premises matters are separate.
When does a Limited Liability Company make more sense? If you are building a larger parts business, sharing ownership with partners, or an investor or large supplier wants a company structure, the LLC route is worth considering from day one.
Can I upgrade from a Business Name to a Limited Liability Company later? Yes. Many dealers begin with a Business Name and convert as the business grows. We can assist with the conversion.
Can I register a motorcycle or tricycle parts business? Yes. Dealers who sell parts for okada and keke register the same way as car-parts shops.
Can I register a truck or heavy-vehicle parts business? Yes. The price and process are the same whatever vehicles your parts are for.
Can tyre, battery and engine-oil sellers register? Yes. Describe what you sell in the nature of business. Some of these products have their own standards and import rules, which are separate.
Can I register a business that sells used (tokunbo) parts? Yes. Used and refurbished parts dealers can register the same way as sellers of new parts.
Can wholesalers and distributors register? Yes. A business that supplies other shops and workshops can be registered under the same Business Name price.
Does CAC registration cover importing parts? No. CAC registration gives your business a registered name. Importing involves customs and standards requirements that are handled separately.
What is SONCAP, and does it affect me? SONCAP is the Standards Organisation of Nigeria’s pre-shipment programme for regulated imported products, and it includes several auto parts. It falls mainly on importers and their suppliers. It is separate from CAC and we do not handle it.
How can I tell my stock is genuine? We cannot verify stock. Ask suppliers for proof of conformity and keep your purchase records. For current rules, check with SON.
Do I need a dealer agreement with a manufacturer? Only if you want to sell as an authorised seller of a particular brand. That arrangement is with the manufacturer and is separate from CAC registration.
Does CAC registration replace membership of a parts-market association? No. Association membership and dues are separate. CAC gives your business its registered name.
Do I need a shop before I register? You need a business address and the LGA, not a finished shop. A shop or market-stall address works. If you are still arranging a space, send the address you plan to use.
I trade from a stall in a market. Can I register? Yes. Use your stall or market address and the LGA. Any market permits or fees are handled separately.
Do I need insurance or fire-safety arrangements? They are separate from CAC. A shop with oils, batteries and tyres may want cover for its stock, and your insurer and local fire service can advise.
I own more than one shop. Do I register each? One registration covers your business as a whole. Any shop approvals are separate, so confirm what each location needs.
Can I put a parts shop and another trade under one name? Yes. Describe the nature of business broadly, for example “motor spare parts sales and accessories”. Some activities may have their own approvals.
Will the certificate help with workshops, fleets or corporate buyers? Workshops, companies and organisations often ask for proof of registration before buying regularly, so the certificate is a useful document to have. It does not guarantee any order.
Can I open a business bank account with the certificate? Yes. A CAC certificate is one of the main documents banks ask for, along with your ID and other details.
Is the TIN included? Yes. A Tax Identification Number is part of what you receive for the ₦35,500.
Will I get a printed certificate, and how is it delivered? You receive a soft copy on WhatsApp, which you can print locally whenever you like.
What if my first-choice name isn’t available? Send a backup name and we will check it right away. Having two or three options ready keeps things moving.
What should I write as the nature of business? Keep it simple and broad, such as “motor spare parts sales” or “motorcycle and tricycle parts”. We can help you word it when you send your details.
Do I need to file anything with CAC in later years? Yes, registered businesses file annual returns. It is a small, separate step and we can help with it when the time comes.
Do you register parts dealers outside Gusau? Yes. We register spare-parts businesses in all 14 LGAs of Zamfara State, from Talata Mafara and Kaura Namoda to Anka and Shinkafi, at the same price and turnaround.
